Match Thread: vs Bolton Wanderers (H)

Close game, they’ve had the best chance but think we’ve been the better side without creating much. The Gayle injury is a blow but the resulting tactical change has benefitted us weirdly, in terms of control anyway.
Got to make more of the set pieces we’re getting, Waggy and CBT to come in and add some threat up top second half maybe 🤔

Would possibly consider shifting Sibley into the position Adams is playing then hook Hourihane for Elder. Sibley would then be better located to smash in a 20 yarder to secure the 3 points

A bright start has died down to a decent performance, we’re doing ok but not creating too much despite some promising lead up play…………not surprising having lost Gayle.

All credit to Wildsmith for keeping us on level terms with that stunning reaction save.

Need to be wary of Bolton, as they break forwards quickly and they have the upper hand in midfield, with Maghoma often a spare man joining the attack in threatening positions.

We haven't introduced Waggy, but we may need to if Barks and NML can’t create an opening as the game wears on.

Great first 10min. Then Bolton dominated before Gayle injury allowed a rejig and we get back in it.

Bolton having lots of space.  Both wingbacks are exposed with a wide man who fortunately keep not delivering good enough balls or taking their man on.

Our delivery from set pieces is poor. Too many free kicks and offsides, too much launching it to no one.

Bolton possibly shading it.

Tight game.

After the promise of recent performances, we seem to have reverted back to the usual stuff. Every time we play a promotion contender, we seem to be afraid to play any football, give the ball away more often than not and invite pressure.
Hourihane’s legs have gone, he’s a total passenger, it’s like having a man less, should be hooked at half time. Would bring tommo’s energy on. A real shame about Gayle as he was hitting some form. Hopefully it’s not too bad.

That said, no really clear cut opportunities for Bolton (a part from Wildsmith’s wonder save), they knock the ball around nicely, but no real penetration. However, keep playing like we are, I can only see one winner. Warne needs to be braver, just seems that he has set up not to lose.

Bright side, it’s still 0-0. Needs to change something at half time. Hopefully will see some improvement.
