Beilik, Lawrence, Joz and Marshall will deffo need to be moved on by the summer, but preferably in Jan.

Beilik is gonna be the tough one as he may not be up to speed for the Jan window so hard to get much back for him, but he’s almost certainly in the top three earners.

Lawrence and Marshall are out of contract in the summer anyways, so Joz is the only one with any potential value other than a nominal nearing end of contract fee.

Then there’s the youngsters, bird, Knight and possibly Festy and Buchanan, they are on lower wages but potentially worth substantial fees.

After that, the gains from trying to get rid of players unless they want out are pretty slim.

So we want Joz to be picked and have a stormer in the qualifiers this weekend

I don’t think Tom is stealing a living, he’s just lucky he got a good contract when he did. It is unlikely he’ll ever get such a generous one again. I am not in this anti Tom brigade, in fact I despise the making of scapegoats and using disparaging  language with such casual ease. He works hard on the pitch. He isn’t bang average, he is a classy player - at this level - just too inconsistent to be anything more.

You’re right about cloggers though, yes you’ll need some strong men at times but 7/10 times skill will out.  And yes it’s got to be an advantage to have a better home ground a big crowd and to at least attempt to strike some awe into the opposition.. “This is Anfield” .. but there will be days when it lifts an opponent

What will be will be

Tom Lawrence’s lack of consistency makes him a bang average Championship player. The little burst of talent he shows is similar to the burst of talent Kenny Miller or Stephen Pearson showed.

What makes players PL quality is consistency. Tom Lawrence’s best performances are of similar quality to say Said Benrahma for West Ham or Jack Harrison at Leeds. But the difference is they put in those kind of performances most weeks, whereas Lawrence puts in one of those performances once a season and the other 45 games is a mixture of some good, some mediocre, some downright frustrating and some absolutely diabolical.

Harrison's best season in the Championship: 6 goals, 8 assists.

Lawrence’s best: 9 goals, 9 assists

Other seasons he's had: 6g and 7a, 10g and 3a

Harrison was consistently very average, but a very hard worker.

Lawrence is more erratic and can be very poor, or excellent at this level.

If everything was about goals, then Jordan Rhodes would have made it at Manchester City while Tom Ince would have been a regular at Liverpool.

How many times do attacks break down because Tom Lawrence has picked the wrong option or had tunnel vision?

We all know he has talent. But there is a reason why he has never done it at Championship level let alone any further than that.

I do agree he needs to go, for his sake as much as Derby's.

I expect him to come good at a different club, like many of the players who were never good enough for Derby fans do.

He needs to change. The best bet would be an impact sub for a lower to mid-table Prem team. That might sound off when he has been poor for us, but this would match his skill set.
