Derby County Vs Brentford matchday thread.

This will probably fall on deaf ears (blind eyes?) but before throwing the dummy out the pram today, can we just remember Brentford are a genuinely good team, in good form and we are where we are after a tough season, missing some senior players and are still finding our feet with our youngsters. So whilst none of it excuses a lifeless performance, it does mean we are playing a good team here.

Yeah maybe have a point there. How much do you think that's due to positional awareness and how much it's not carrying enough individual threat ?

Like for a Lawrence's faults, teams have to pay attention to him and he does actively look to get into places to hurt teams.

A bit of both. Skill sets and confidence. Lawrence and Waghorn either side of Martin for the West Brom game and we may have given them more of a game.

Curse of the Championship. Reduced media coverage turns fans introspective. Whenever you lose in the Championship, it's because your team played poorly, and it's never down to the opposition being a good side.

Sky have got their narrative sorted. Brentford are one of the greatest teams ever and they are playing another team.

Why do they always do it? Their brown-nosing of our Academy system was equally sickening a couple of weeks ago. Just analyse both teams ffs!!

Whilst true, also thing a fair portion of it is delusions of grandeur. Just because we are Derby County does not mean we have some kind of divine right to win every game (unfortunately).

There is absolutely no way that if we concede an early goal, this thread won't be crammed with the usual guff about how awful our team / manager is / players / tactics are etc.

You know the first time Brentford have a bit of nice play, they will say how they called it.

It's a bit like anything Rooney does is praised over the top, and if he gives the ball away the commentator reacts as if he's seen a 3 headed monkey.

He’s a kid playing his first few professional games and was forced into being the only creative player in the whole team, whilst simultaneously becoming a marked man following his hat trick. No wonder he struggled.

It’s often that way with young natural talents .. 1st season wonder, then a dip for a year or so while they get over everyone discovering them .. happened to Giggs

Absolutely, but that is also a paradox. We should be beating everyone, despite the fact we're not good enough.

If we want to go up, we need to be beating these little old teams like Brentwood. Assume they are already relegated right?

Don’t open the can of worms of whether Ryan Giggs was actually good player... that’s for another day. But yes, it can be like that.

If Rooney misplaces a pass today and the commentator says "That's one for the scrapbook!" I will gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon.

I like how Forest always have one of the strongest teams in the league, and they only finish mid-table because of an unlucky management appointment. Again.

Not sure if they were saying it again this season, but they seem to be better than the sum of their parts.

Sky may as well bill it as BMW vs Skoda the way they're going on about Brentford's front line!

Their front 3 of Watkins, Benrahma & Mbeumo have 53 goals between them. Why shouldn't Sky be purring about them?

We don't have anyone in the team who's going to put in a tackle to take the ball off them, so we'll have to wait to pounce on a misplaced pass or make plenty of interceptions.

We'll struggle to do either because they move the ball so well and our central midfield doesn't have the legs to close them down, so we're just going to spend the entire game chasing shadows.

This is where having a fully fit Bielik after months of coaching from Cocu would come in handy.

There's not a chance in hell we stop them scoring 3+ goals today, none at all.

Wouldn't it be nice if we shocked a team for once? Every time we've got complacent and expected to win, we capitulate. I'm hoping we shock them and think (maybe stupidly) we will
