How about they are highly paid professional athletes and should not be abusing their bodies at all. I like a drink, but moderate it. A pint doesn’t hurt. Unfortunately there is now a drinking culture at the club that Frank Lampard had a big hand in propogating.

His voice sounded sober in the video, unlike Lawrence. Still, completely wrong for him to be seemingly egging him on and posting it in a public place. Beyond stupid.

Even taking the drink driving aside, I think what has happened is completely wrong. But do you not think that this sort of thing happened on a much larger scale in years gone by? You were there during the 1970s and 1980s, right? I imagine it would have been a lot worse then, although they were paid a lot less obviously. This is the piss up I'm on about, not the drink driving (even though I imagine that happened even more too).

It doesn't make it right though.

Huddlestone not captain at the time of course and not aware that he would plan to drive home later and also thinking his private post would only be seen by what he thought were his close friends on instagram!

Snapchat. Not instagram.

Its a friend, or at least friendly acquaintance whos sent this to the Mirror

If its against what the club asked for which looks likely based on the 8pm being mentioned in the club statement then yeh they shouldnt have stayed out, especially if Bennett was in that state before 8 & they certainly shouldnt be made captain

I'm not sure that it means the club would have had a problem with them staying out after 8pm, providing they were sensible about it, it says they should have known when to stop, which to me means there would've been nothing wrong with them being out past that time and not drinking (or drinking little) and just socialising, and then getting taxis home, which may for all we know be what some of them did.

It reads to me as 8pm was mentioned because that's the time the majority left, including the staff, and possibly the time the club had laid the cars on for.

It just gets worse and worse.

Are we surprised that we have seen Sunday league performances from players with an obvious Sunday league mentality?

I mean, you’re a professional footballer, what are you doing getting smashed on a Tuesday night? I mean, you’re a professional footballer, what are you doing filming your drunk teammate(s)? I mean, you’re a professional footballer, why is that same video appearing on social media? I mean, you’re a professional footballer, why are acting like you are a university student and it’s 2 for 1 Tuesdays?

Do we support Derby County FC or Get the Beers In FC?

Don’t get me wrong, I have been in some states over the years having drunk too much. Alcohol can take a hold of anyone and make anyone look stupid.

But the difference is I am not a professional footballer. If you are a footballer, you are held to a higher standard than university students or regular lads ‘having a session’.

When you are a regular person, you alone carry that embarrassment and shame around with you. You get stick from friends and family but in most cases you can shake it off.

But when you are a footballer, you are not only representing yourself, you are representing the city, its people and a proud club.

The fact that they have embarrassed the  club by drinking to excess is not a good look in itself. But a good performance on Saturday and people can forgive it.

But the fact this drinking got so out of hand that it led to some players making unbelievably reckless decisions and endangering lives by drink driving - it destroys any goodwill, any respect, any admiration, any affection fans might have had towards these players.

It’s disgraceful. Throw the book at them. In fact throw the whole bloody library at them.

Drinking culture at the club? How the hell do you know that for a fact?

Fair enough , send me a cheque for 10 k please ,I’m going to reroof your property ,part way in I’m going to go on the lash , be totaly unprofessional , injure my most senior roofer , risk being imprisoned whilst still on your dollar and or turn out a substandard effort/ job and don’t even consider I may feel any responsibility to refund the money you give me ,,,, why should I?

Nice work if you can get it caaaa ching,, mind you not all of us want that kind of work on a question of decent morals,

i hear it said and agree with the opinion that the vey minimum we can expect from players is hard graft ,effort and professionalism but poor form is something that can happen,

these bamfords have taken the club and fans money and gone way beyond failing to provide the bare minimum expected in return ,

in the words of Steve Miller ,,go on take the money and run

The club pay their wages not the fans.

Where has this “big drinking culture” in the club come from?! Literally never heard of it except for last night and when we had some drinks after the semi-final. Absolute nonsense.

I didn’t say a ‘big’ drinking culture, but one seemingly exists.

Don't be naive, some young men drink, some young footballers drink. It's legal to do so. It's the driving after that's the issue.

Even so gaving a few beers and drink driving are two separate things completely.

Obviously, the driving is awful because a municipal lamppost was damaged!

But, actually, I'm not sure that the beers and the driving are as different as they seem.

As many people have said on this thread, once drunk, ones judgement gets more and more floored!

That's why we drink with friends who will look after one another, or book a taxi, or give our keys to a friend if we realise that we're getting drunk, or we go out with a nominated driver.

Young people make mistakes - we all make mistakes - it's how we learn! And many of us need to bend and break the rules sometimes!

I think the problem was that the older and wiser members of the group who embarked on the drinking, and those who failed to prevent the driving.

No beers = no drink driving.

Looking after colleagues = no drink driving.

Being focused on winning football matches = no drink driving??

Playing for Derby!

I wouldn’t care for the lifestyle. I’d even take my current wage!
