On Chelsea: "Let's face it, that job comes around pretty frequently"

A not too subtle message to his manager that if he stays with us for a couple of years he can still go to Chelsea later.

Well he could after Chelsea too! Lampard is going to look a better catch as an ex-Chelsea manager than as an ex-Derby manager. Get real Mel.

Get the impression Mel is biting his tongue. 'Frank doesn't owe us anything'. 100% PR diplomacy,

They actually asked "do you think Frank owes you something" - and he said no. He's right in as much as it's not up to DCFC to decide if Frank owes us something. It's for Frank to decide that

Mel is coming over very well. He’s professional, calm and managing to leave the door open for Frank if he doesn’t join Chelsea.

And a nice little dig at Rowett as well ?

Of course - that is a semantic argument. I was just summarising.

Everything Mel is saying would be spot on if it  was all in the balance and Frank via third parties/agents didn't have a bloody good idea already what the offer is. Bit if a pantomime if you ask me.

Simon Jordan is always a great pundit, initially thought he was an absolute tool but he has clear and often great views, always well expressed.

Q: "What type of manager are we looking at (as a replacement)?"

MM: "Firstly, it's the question most DCFC fans have got on their minds. We've seen this last season how things have come together. Forget the background of the manager, the person we bring in (should Frank bring in) has to maintain the style of play, has to continue the work with the academy, so a large part of what we'll be putting together will be to continue the mission. I'm looking for someone who can, as close as possible, can bring us the style of football, embrace the academy, have a good relationship with the fans."

You mean he got all grovelley by waving his chequebook about? Can't believe (and should I) some of the figures being bandied about that Mel is offering to Lampard to stay!

MM: "This connection with the supports - it's hard to define what that brings. We know that this has been a far more exciting season than the results showed. That connection with the supporters goes back many years (back to the Clough era)."
