STRIKER Darren Bent could leave Derby County on loan but that is not likely to happen before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Head coach Paul Clement did not rule out the possibility when asked about Bent's absence from the match-day 18 in the last three matches.

"I don't think anything will happen today," said Clement.

"Darren has been out of the squad in the last couple of games and that is not something he is particularly happy with, understandably"

"If that continues it may be that (a loan) is something that will happen."

Clement revealed that he and the player had spoken about the situation.

"What Darren has done in his career, and the age he is at, he wants to play and contribute, and I understand that," said Clement.

"That could be here, and if it is not here it could potentially be somewhere else."

This hints at a possible move when the window for emergency loans opens in a week's time.

Bent has not featured since he hit the winning goal in the FA Cup third-round victory at Hartlepool United.

That was the 31-year-old's 200th goal of his club career.

He has made only five starts this season in his 17 appearances and scored two goals.

"We added two players in January in Abdoul Camara and Nick Blackman, and that pushed the numbers in the front positions up to seven players," said Clement.

"If we are playing with three forwards, which we have done in the majority of games, that means four cannot start.

"If two of those four are probably going to make the bench, it means two are not.

"In the last couple of games that has been Darren and Andreas (Weimann). That is not to say that will always be the case."

yeah but continuing to sit on the bench when nothing is going right on the pitch must be a bit poo

Maybe, just maybe, he is the problem! The coaching staff work with him on a daily basis and obviously they don't think he is good enough or too lazy or maybe there is another reason. But he hasn't really done anything at his last clubs (permanent or loan) to ensure a starting place and this is obviously down to the same reasons it's not working here.

Maybe.

If that was the case and the coaching staff dont like his attitude or whatever and thus have no real intention of using him as a sub....why bother naming him as one? Surely better to give one of the young guns the spot so they can get a feel for being part of the match day squad.

Seem to recall when Villa were crying out for goals that Paul Lambert said he wouldn't play Bent because of what PL saw on the training ground.

This was obviously a sound assessment and very relevant for us given where PL is now.

Er, where is Paul Lambert now???

PC confirms bent is very unhappy just now. Can't blame him: it's one thing sitting on the sidelines as the attack rips teams to bits but it's quite another to be a pedigreed striker and be left out the match day lineup completely as the team serves up an anemic and Impotent attack. Bent will be even more mad (disruptive?) now that he couldn't get a move and will find empathetic friends in weimann and Baird and who knows who else. I'd like to know why PC thinks he's so bad. What's he done to upset him ? Showing up late ? Lack of effort at training ?

Still the best team performance in the God knows how long yet we haven't seen the same lineup.

I would love to ask Clement why we haven't gone back to that?

Yep. We kind of bumbled around and defended a bit too deep early on but every time we attacked it was fun to watch. It was a new formation mind you. Bent never scored (and he did miss a header onto the bar if I recall) but he stretched the defence allowing Ince to score again and again ... Then there was that brilliant JR header too.

Probably not gone back to that winning formation against Bristol because Clement does not really have a clue what he is doing and that team was put out purely by accident?

Yep, Clement just managed to fall into being the assistant manager of 3 of the biggest teams in Europe even though he never had a clue what he was doing.
