Day
The Football League are involved in preliminary talks about a new European competition for Championship clubs despite the fixture calendar already approaching gridlock. A meeting took place in Milan last week between representatives of second-tier football in England, Russia, Holland and Italy who have occasional summits to discuss common causes. And the proposal for yet more European football involving clubs who don’t compete in the Champions League or Europa League was tabled by the Italians, though no potential formats were discussed. A previous model, the Anglo-Italian Cup, was played intermittently between 1970 and 1996 before it was abandoned because of fixture congestion.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2538864/Second-tier-football-clubs-plan-European-competition-Charles-Sale.html#ixzz2qNupGg3m
TigerTedd
It'll be typical then, we'll get promoted and have to fight for a place in the Europa league, starting the long road towards being a top end club, while Forest, languishing in the lower leagues, are still able to compete in Europe. I don't like it.
Shuff264
Given how little people care about the europa league, I cant see this being very popular

rsmini
The only way championship clubs could play in any European competition is to reduce the league to 20 clubs. Otherwise it would be impossible to squeeze games in. They would probably have to create a division 3 as well
Leicester Ram
Or teams competing don't enter the league cup or FA cup. I wouldn't mind us missing out on the domestic cups for a single season in which we got to do something as exciting as this. Would they enter the 3 play-off teams or something? Uptherams
How about the winners of the FA cup if outside of the PL are rewarded with PL status. Much more exciting prospect for me.
maydrakin
I went to Cosenza when we played in the Anglo Italian cup. Flew over with the team. Played a game against Italian supporters in the afternoon. Cracking couple of days away! It was in November and the locals were all in huge winter coats looking aghast at Derby fans wandering around in shorts and t-shirts.
