I think cisse played well but i'm a bit puzzled by the instant adulation.

He basically kept it simple, passed to a derby shirt, conserved his energy and produced one great second half tackle.

All good but shirley not as good as bryson or hughes.

I think what impressed people was his physicality. We haven't had big strong player for a long time, probably since Addison. Clough never seemed to fancy Cisse type players. This is a physically tough league and we have been desperate for a couple of strong commanding players with a bit of presence.

Midfielder to remain with Derby until mid-January.

Kalifa Cisse has agreed a two-month contract with Derby County which will see him remain with the Rams until mid-January 2014.

The 29-year-old central midfielder agreed non-contract terms earlier this month and made his debut in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the international break.

Off the back of his impressive display against the Owls and the hectic Christmas period fast approaching, Cisse will remain with the club at a key stage of the campaign.

First Team Coach Paul Simpson said: “Kalifa did well against Sheffield Wednesday and it’s pleasing that he will be sticking around for a bit longer.”

He added: “Hopefully he can carry on where he left off as well because he was certainly effective for us in the role he played on his debut.”

Cisse began his career as a trainee in France at Ligue 1 side Toulouse, before moving on to GD Estoril in Portugal in 2004.

It was there that he caught the attention of Portuguese Liga club Boavista, for whom he signed for a year later.

His impressive displays for Boavista led to a move to then Premier League side Reading, as he put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal in May 2007, for a fee of around £1 million.

Cisse made his Premier League debut for Reading against Chelsea in August 2007 and netted his first goal in England four months later, in the Royals’ enthralling 6-4 defeat to Tottenham.

In July 2010, he linked up with Steve Coppell for the second time in his career when he agreed terms on a two-year deal at Bristol City, for another substantial fee.

After 61 league appearances at two goals at Ashton Gate, Cissé signed with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer in the United States ahead of the 2013 MLS season.

He made six league and two US Open Cup appearances for the Revolution, before leaving the MLS outfit by mutual consent in August, after expressing a desire to return to England.

I wasn't too sure about Kalifa when the news broke he was on trial with us, but what a game he had against the Wendies.

The question is now, can he do that every game? Or was that a one off performance?

In a few weeks we will know for sure, and we're in the best position possible once we find out.

Its either sign him up or let him go. Simple as that. I hope he proves to us he can make the grade.

The only question is whether he'll play another game between now and then.

Eustace has been a fairly big influence over the last few games. He'll come straight back in surely?

Then would anyone really leave Hendrick on he bench when he's back and fit?

I can only see Cisse playing again if Eustace gets another suspension.

i wonder if cisse has leapfrogged eustace in the pecking order.

If that was the case, I doubt that we would be only extending his contract for 2 months.

If schteve wants to carry on playing 4-3-3 how do we fit Hendrick, Bryson, Hughes, eustace/ cisse all in 1 side? I like us using a defensive midfielder so either eustace or cisse will play each game. That leaves 2 spots for 3 top players. Hughes even if sold will most likely stay for the season so what do we do?

It's a great problem to have but wouldn't leave people like Hendrick or Bryson on the bench too long as they may want to move on. And what happens now Russell is nearing fitness? Dawkins has looked fairly impressive and think he will improve with games. Ward is fairly safe as his can be a match winner when he wants.

Haven't been this excited about our squad for ages! Just hope Stevie Mac gets it right
