Didn't someone who knows quite a bit about football once say that the sign of a good team is one which manages to eke out a result even when not playing at their best?
What Derby seem to have the makings of, certainly at the moment, is a 'good team' - with the emphasis on 'team'. They are a unit - not necessarily the most gifted players individually (you wouldn't expect that - they are a side thrown together in a short period of time, playing in the third tier of English football, assembled on a shoestring budget under all sorts of restrictions - but they are fighting for each other, and the results themselves have been remarkable over the last couple of months.

    Pinched from the Oxford forum.
Just analysing their goals - and of course credit must be given to the quality of the deliveries into the box - but Hourihane’s superb corner looks to be flicked across goal by Fin Stevens for the first, Ciaron Brown yet again leaves his man free in the box from Cashin‘s brilliant ball to the back stick where Thompson heads past Beadle and Cashin easily steers in the third getting in front of Fin Stevens. Another top class delivery from Hourihane.

Apart from those great balls in there were countless overloads down by both flanks all night and we simply could not stop them. The corner count in their favour was off the scale. We were in effect lambs to the slaughter after that great start but the pressure was mounting from then on to the finale. It was like the Alamo for 85 minutes.

Derby arguably the best side seen at League One level in OX4 in the seven years we’ve been at the level. And I include Wigan 2017-18 in that.

    We were battered.

    Oh what a night,
    Late December 2023,
Oxford scored 2 but then we scored 3,
What a comeback, what a night!

PS - sorry to anyone I may have offended last night, I was a leetle bit drunk!

Just a word for Fozzie. Thought he was outstanding first half in particular. Unlucky with the header. Great positioning for his goal.

    What a result. What a f****** result.
The performance, the comeback, the nature of the win. We shot ourselves in the foot early on, 2-0 down away to a top 6 side within 15 mins and could've succumbed to a nothing performance. We did the exact opposite.
Our form is excellent but this is the biggest "sign" for me. We can win in different ways, put in different types of performances and still get results. It's the sign of a promotion team.
I'm probably getting carried away, but you don't see this kind of thing from Derby very often. I hope we follow it up with a win vs Posh, then we really are onto something.
But for now, I'll enjoy tonight. Luckily I'm a moderator and can go and clear any trace of my Warne comments after the Stevenage game, because I was very wrong. He deserves so much credit, he's got us doing things I never thought he'd be capable of. Hats off to you gaffer.

Will take that , yes we are frustrating at times and that’s not down to warne it’s down to the players who just at times pass very poorly , there’s a reason we don’t play through the middle much , it’s because we hit poor passes and players are drawn to the ball rather than moving intelligently to create space and options , it’s not all on warne demanding the ball wide every time , then we have little spells where we click and don’t force it and hey presto we look like a team , bloody shame that last minute penalty for Wycombe 😡,
the haters popped in again briefly tonight I see , I mean ffs some people really need to get a grip , Paul warne is a football manager , he’s doing an ok job at worst and on top of that it’s clear he is a decent kind of human being , the crap aimed at him from some on here is beyond the pale

Not really if I'm honest with you, this forum without the members is an empty shell of code, it's the members that make the forum a community.
It's really on you all to shape the community with how you communicate with each other.
We can set guidelines, moderate content, even disable polls to avoid the in out after every result, however unless we go all North Korea it really is on you all.
The forum has topic summaries now below the first post, maybe check that and try to voice your opinion without being in the top 4 posters for a prolonged period?
I haven't been on nowhere near as much myself,  life offline is pretty hectic, then the spare time I get, do I want to spend that filling my head with the constant streams of negativity over matters that seem so minor compared to last year.
Thought we would have had more of grace period of just being happy to have a club to support, wasn't expecting the bile to be spewed so quickly but here we are, and that's the frontline where the fight is being fought.

Speak for yourself , the man saved derby county and gave me back my love of football and everything derby , I live and work in london swamped by chelsea , arsenal , Man U ect fans and a good few of them follow derby results , will us on , have banter and most of all see me as a proper football fan with season tickets travelling miles upon miles and see derby as a proper club , this god forsaken league 1 ? Since Mel drove our club to the wall I’ve started to experience the real passion and rollercoaster that football should be again, I’ve watched us win the league twice in my lifetime and they were great times but were wins any better feeling than wins today with the south stand and half the ground singing 21 points ?     NO,
derby county mate ,,, that’s it 🤷🏻‍♂️, if we are meant to go up we will , if we are meant to compete at the top table again we will but I’m in no hurry to put pressure on clowes run before we can walk or place us in the hands of somebody with no connection with or understanding of our club and city to be a toy till they get bored 🤷🏻‍♂️

I find all this abuse of Warne at the match heard on the TV coverage and on social media really embarrassing and detrimental to us as a club. I've never know so much ire directed at a Derby manager before in my life. Can we all stop moaning and just support our team? We've been through the mill as a club and some fans need to realise we aren't just going to 'piss the league'. This constant tirade against our manager is really tiring.

Having sat and watched the League One leaders lose at Chesterfield, fielding their strongest team, but Chesterfield deservedly winning, I did wonder what Derby’s match at Crewe had in store.
Warne, I think rightly, did not change a winning team, many on here seem to urge that. Derby battered the Crewe penalty area constantly for most of the first half. Crewe often had 8/9 men in their penalty area at times, which was very congested. We did try a variety of methods to score, playing passes to try and break through the lines, to no avail. We then resorted to mainly cross the ball, usually failing to hit a Derby player. If there was a diffence from Tuesday night it was a lack of movement from the front players, to try and create space. Unfortunately, Fonzie had an off day with his passing, sometimes because of lack of movement in front of him, and the falling asleep for their first goal.
in the second half, we were still dominant in possession but particularly Hourihane slowed the game too much, in my opinion, maybe trying to look confident that we would get back in game. The 2nd game was again poor defending from both Bradley and Nelson. That led to Crewe packing their Area with even more men, had some luck but also were let off by some poor score scoring efforts.
The subs did have an effect, freshening things up and eventually Derby scored the goals which gave them what they deserved. Well done for continuing to believe. Contrary to what some think, there is good spirit and they are playing for the Head Coach. As someone else said, Hourihane up his game tempo and was very important in the revival. Derby tried to play along the ground as much as possible, but trying to play through the centre of the defence was virtually impossible. Our standard of crossing improved a bit with Ward and to a lesser extent Wilson. Think Ward will be very important when he becomes match fit.
some of the comments on here during the match were embarrassingl and laughable. Special mention too to Crewe, who made it extremely difficult with their determination and hard work. Having watched the match against Northampton, their Manager wasn’t going to give Derby the amount of space they enjoyed on Tuesday.
Apart from a couple of pieces of defending and our finishing, it was a reasonable performance and no where near as bad as the Warne Out people are portraying. It was Crewe’s Cup Final - Chesterfield won theirs quite convincingly against Portsmouth!

You know that’s just plain wrong. Collins is past his best and in any case was and is a league one striker with all the flaws that entails. BUT One thing Collins does do is get in good positions. I can’t defend the missed chances but you know, he should have played Barks in the other week and got slated. Barks did the same but not a whisper. Not on in my book.
Collo isn’t the answer to “Derby’s No 9” but he is a Ram, he’s our player, he works, turns up and does stuff (did anyone notice the the back flick exchange with NML last night ?

I find the toxicity towards him from some quarters simply loathsome. We had the same over Bradley but he seems to have been forgiven by the mob (for now) The same mob that are wanting to crucify the manager and have zero patience and zero understanding of the meaning of support. Some supporters seem to revel in attacking our own for mistakes, bad luck or whatever other something they can use to focus their puerile attitude to sport.
Pompous ? Angry ? Opinionated ? Yes .. I am guilty of all of them but when a player has our shirt on I back them, I don’t set out to trip them up or rejoice in mishaps. And no .. it isn’t “bants” or a “larf”

It’s not about being happy clappy and if he plays badly in a particular game I have no problem him being criticised.
What I dislike intensely is the way in certain quarters individual players are cast as the ones to kick on a regular basis. It’s destructive it’s a kind of remote bullying. If this was a real playground there’d be a group picking out the likes of Collins, Bradley, Malone for special “attention” They were even on Vydras back for a short while.
Yes there is always a mob

In fairness I reckon both Collins and Bradley could have handled themselves in the playground. I wonder how many folk who take the keyboard criticism to the excesses (and beyond fair and reasonable) would actually say this directly to the players if they met them (and no I don’’t count shouting faceless abuse when you’re part of a 1,500 away or 25,000 home crowd).
I suspect there are very few.

At the time I said that I'd didn't like Rowett's style but if it was successful then it'd be difficult to argue with it. It wasn't so stuff the Snake! 😄
I enjoy individual players more than whole teams I think. I'll watch almost any football Sky put out. Although Scottish football is a struggle, though the Ranger/Celtic game is always fun to wince and 'tooth-suck' at some of the challenges. But in the Prem it's tricky to stick with one team, Arsenal perhaps at times, Liverpool too. Hate seeing Villa and Brighton but they play decent stuff.
I'm a big fan of Harry Kane atm and am enjoying watching bits of the German stuff. Salah, Saka, Haaland etc they all have their moments, but I can't commit to another team long term, only each game sort of.
I grew up watching Cloughie era football, excitement, skill, success. Spoilt me for League 1 init. Loved Mac1 and Mac2 even. Just want to see us play some football. Loved Birdy last night and hate the thought we'll lose him.
I always thought I'd chose winning over 'entertaining' football, but recently I've changed my mind!  Edit: nope it's a lie, winning is what its all about! 😄

The Warne-Out Brigade will dismiss even a 4-0 win, due to it being a "dead cert" for 3 points.

Put out a decent starting 11 win the game but it doesn't matter as they're a division below us and had a big change of personnel for tonight's game.
