When he was at Barnsley, he was absolutely everywhere but I get your point.

I’d settle for an Idiakez type in this team, for sure.

Shaun Barker’s commentary vs Oxford was - as always - spot on Hourihane spends lengthy periods not being involved in the game.

But when you tell a joke that suggests it was a 'unforessen bonus' that Gypsies died in the Holocaust there is a pretty slim chance you're going to convince me that is not anti-Gypsy.

(Just to avoid confusion, this was @BaaLocks’s post which Unlucky Alf responded to. )

Jimmy Carr probably shouldn’t have told this joke, even to his own fans who pay for exactly this; because it was inevitable that some people hearing it would think it was intended to be anti-Roma. I don’t think it was at all. It was a subtle joke about political correctness, prejudice (against Jews as well as Roma), about listener expectations and more, all brilliantly packed into about 3 sentences.

But these days it was bound to get him into trouble.

Let's not forget, even if we were to ban gambling sponsors on the front of our shirts, they will still have the Skybet patches on the sleeves and all over the league branding around the ground and on the pitch.

Ultimately there should be a ban on all gaming company advertising, so the sky bet logos should be removed. Plenty of people who get hooked aren’t feeding their kids and as the op points out even worse things happen

Sibley gets brought on in midfield, his proper position and makes a difference. Hopefully Liam has come to the conclusion that he's not a winger. I was also extremely impressed by his demeanour. Clattered twice inside his first 2 minutes on the park. my first thoughts were will it be yellow or red? He kept his cool and simply played football. I hope he keeps it up.

I think Sibley is going to have to put up with that all season. Bird too. And in this division they’ll get less protection from the refs, especially away from home. We know Bird will keep his head and no doubt Rosie is giving Louis all the right messages. Hope they both stay fit

What’s quite amusing is watching the oppo trying to clatter Knight, who just floats away like a starling in the slipstream (and wins a foul)

    I'm happy to sign it.

I've never been a gambler so it's never bothered me, but when you hear stories like this it's hard to just dismiss it as a harmless thrill, and I'm sure there are many similar stories. 409 deaths a year is a terrible waste of life.

I would temper expectations, it's hard to turn down money for any club (and I don't think it's been choosing gambling sponsorship over comparable offers from other sources) but I hope at least we're away from "super special star player deals with extra gambling"

Fenway Group won’t let Liverpool accept any sponsorship from the gaming companies. Costs them 10s of MMs a year. The owner agrees with @whestonramand thinks it’s immoral.

DC has reset the culture of our club. Hope it stretches to doing the same

I think this could be the death of civilisation as we know it. Women will finally realise what they always suspected. They are superior to men, even in an area men have tried to keep to themselves.

If you’re a man feeling a bit meh about their achievement, it’s probably because you feel a little emasculated by girl power.

The Lionesses have done what the dopey, overpaid men’s team, with their stupid haircuts and choreographed goal celebrations, couldn’t.

In a game in which, let’s face it, they were being outplayed towards full time, they managed to turn it around and not only score, but see out the game.

    Good luck to them.

They’ve got some great talent, Williamson is so like Bobby Moore you don’t notice her half the time and Stanway and Hemp are world class. But the Germans and the French are better ‘man for man’ - Oberdorf and Cascarino in particular are fabulous and Malard makes Virgil VD look like a puppy dog. We won because Wiegman is the best manager and because she’s enforced the US work ethic that she learned under Anson Dorrance. It’s the same reason Liverpool and City are so dominant

The men have no chance of replicating the feat, because Southgate hasn’t got the same ability to pick a squad or manage a game

Bit of pushing and shoving. I think he was a bit ‘in your face’ with his celebration. Usual petulant football handbags. Nothing to scare Tyson Fury too much ?

Credit to Sibley. He was hit hard twice just after coming on - I’m sure that was no coincidence. In the past he might have got himself into trouble - but he managed to stay under control.

But far better when the whistle goes for him to brush all that aside and shake hands with the oppo.

Have finally returned to the nest, fully armed with excuses.

    1. They've changed the traffic management, so the home coaches leave first. Had a sneaky pint in the Yard, and the buses left just as we arrived.

Decided to wait out the traffic, and get a taxi back into town. Swift pint or three in Frankie and Bennys. Two ubers didnt turn up.

The Red Arrow was busier than usual due to the train strike, so we had to queue. Getting more beer from the shop didn't help our place in the queue, admittedly.

Pride day in Nottingham today, not a taxi or bus free to return home without encountering menacing hordes of biker types. Another few in the Six Barrels, then I somehow got cajoled into leading the march through town!

Arrived home, and burst into 'I am what i am' when the present Mrs Devil opened the door, with a requestioned rainbow boa draped around my neck. Not amused, at all.

Let her have her mini moan, then told her I wouldn't change a single thing about the day frankly, we were celebrating the fact there was even a game and a club to go and see.

Obviously, promised it wouldn't happen again, and will sleep on the settee tonight.

Ahem. I’m your wife and you owe me 5,000£

Agree with what has been said about the shocking officiating. Even basic things like placing the free kick for the offside where the Lino put his flag up instead of where the last man was - bizarre. Must say though, not seen a team surround the ref like that since Roy Keane was still playing. Is that standard stuff in this league?

We can’t expect the officiating in Div1 to be as good as the championship. Just need to accept that

DIT - Also a big shout out to Wildsmith. Clean sheet on debut, made a few decent saves, a number of people raised concerns about him maybe not being right as first choice but he did his job well enough today.

I was a big allstop fan and shed a tear when he left. Some posters say otherwise but there is no more important position on the pitch (according to J Morinho). Yes Wildsmith had a good game and looked comfy with the heart stopping tippy tappy stuff. Hope he grows into the role. He claims to be 6’2” but looks alarmingly like Les Green between the posts.

Not sure I understand the reference comparing regulators and fans. It isn't the fans responsibility to protect clubs against these issues.

    Fair comment

I was alluding to the fact that most derby fans had no concerns about the dodgy combination of stretford and CK, and no concerns that stretford and Rooney had in effect picked the PB. But with hindsight we had a lucky escape. Regulators don’t have 20:20 vision either

  12. 1 hour ago, PistoldPete said:

It should have been a requirement of being a PB that he lodge a deposit (at the every least a returnable deposit ) as proof that the money is for real.

I said this at the time, but for different reasons

Don’t think there’s any doubt the money was real. As was the money that paid the May wage bill. That wasn’t the problem.

    Dodged a nuke here.

The regulation around football ownership is insufficient. If clubs are genuinely considered community assets, then the fit and proper persons test needs more teeth.

We are indebted to whoever stopped the sale going through but let's be clear, it wasn't any of the people who it should have been and that's alarming.

we almost certainly dodged a nuke

But how are the regulators supposed to know

    - that he might be diddling his investors

    - that he’s in cahoots with uncle Paul (whose finger was on the nuclear button)

The signs were there for all of us to see  - he’s supposed to be full time CEO of a fast growing company and yet he spends half his time schmoozing golfers and doing wheelies around Dubai in his jet. Oh and his area of ‘expertise’ is sales   It’s as harsh to blame the regulators as it is to blame the fans

Nixon claimed to have seen the funds, the reality is probably different, why would Kirchner show a red top journalist the funds, no benefit in it.  Nixon has regularly been economical with the truth and tries to look more in the know than he actually is, Nixon assured us all that there was nothing to worry about, he called out all of the critics that saw what was coming.

Nixon has gone awfully quite regarding Derby as he knows he's been made to look a complete tool by Kirchner.

I think the funds were transferred but the bank wouldn’t release them for money laundering reasons. Numerous sources confirmed that (not only Nixon) and there was no plausible account that conflicted with that.
