TomTom92 reacted to Anag Ram in Where do you think we'll finish this season?
    If we play 4-3-3 second.
If we play 5-3-2 third at best
We cannot play in such a negative fashion, especially at home. Get NML back on the wing where he’s happiest.

    It is what it is.

If we do go up we’re gonna do it playing this industrious version of football. If we lose then obviously the style of play opens Warne up for criticism.

Had Barnsley down to beat us today and that’s exactly what they did. Bit concerning as their run in is easier than everybody else’s but maybe they’ll stutter once they feel the pressure.

A win on Tuesday will be nice whether it’s by hook or by crook.

Would I enjoy going for a pint with Warne? I think so.

Do I enjoy some of this football? Nope.

You’d like to think people can see past some of the performances over the last 2 years when judging his character. He seems like a genuinely decent bloke.

Why can't we just have a normal manager with normal things to say, like Brian Clough....
He can say what he wants if he takes us up.

Most football managers try and say as little as possible publicly so it's good to have one with a bit of personality that's a break from the norm.
It's the football I struggle with which I find boring to watch and uninspiring.

    Just watched the interview.
Can't work out whether the ref comment was a coincidence or whether he's slipped it in just to keep everyone on their toes.
If he's done it on purpose then kudos to him because he didn't linger on the comment at all, just carried on with his ramblings.

Think they have Blackpool and Wigan next two games, both away. Not straightforward by any stretch. Lose one and that's their games in hand done and dusted as we've a relative +3 GD. Our fate is in our own hands and frankly, I'd be much more worried about Pompey who are over their wobble. They're the ones to beat IMO.

    What a ridiculous decision.

Not from TNT’s point of view. But I somewhat doubt people are going to subscribe just to watch the FA cup.
But a competition that’s already diminished and they’ve gone and done this.

Wont affect my life particularly because I hold the cup in contempt but its a shame for the youth of today.

There could also be a problem with a relegation clauses as it would give some clubs, with little or no chance of being relegated, an added attraction. Imagine if a player was offered a 4 year contract with someone like Spurs and another with a team like Ipswich or Southampton (assuming they get promoted). Even if they knew they wouldn’t get much game time with Spurs, they may chose them because of the much reduced risk of relegation and subsequent pay cut.

I agree re Barnsley. I am actually more worried about them than Bolton to be honest. We must NOT lose to them. The only slight consolation is that, like us, they aren’t playing very well at home. But whenever I’ve been there we have been crap and soundly beaten…😳🤷
They play us and Bolton in quick succession- if they win both of those then suddenly they are really looking good….

TomTom92 reacted to Gabby'sThighs in Dwight Gayle - Signed until the end of the season
FWIW, I think Gayle would be a good signing.

It may be a while back, but he's shown that he can score goals in the Championship, he's played in the Prem, the Conference North and League Two, so he should know how to scrap in League One. As a couple of posters have pointed out already, the success of old b*ggers like Rhodes, Chris Martin, McGoldrick and Collins in L1 shows how valuable that experience is. He probably hung around at Newcastle for too long (but on good money, who wouldn't?) and has had injury problems, but we just need him to be a pro for 13 games and keep opposition defenders thinking. Gayle's game seems to be good positioning and finishing in the box, pouncing on second balls, so as long we can create chances, he should be able to finish.

The only thing that counts against Gayle is he's a tiddler at 5"9', so may struggle with 100 lofted crosses a game. He's certainly not a Collins clone.  However, his WBA highlights reel shows he's actually decent when he has a free/diving header. Plus, he can take a free kick.

TomTom92 reacted to DavesaRam in Sibley too good!
Its the same old arguments. I agree that Sibley hasn’t developed his full potential, but in terms of having the chance to, his path to success had been littered with trip wires at every stage. UnlikeTom Lawrence who in each match where he played well was then given 6 freebies. Similar with Hourihane, who has shown flashes of talent here or there (as has Sibbers, of course). But unlike those two, the only positions where Sibley hasn’t played are CDM and goalkeeper. In his best position he has only managed a maximum of 40 - 45 minutes, and apart from Left Back all he gets are bit parts.
We did the same to Weimman. He is a central striker, so when he got the chance to play, it was stuck out on the wing, where everybody decried his lack of goals. But when he went to Bristol, they played him down the middle and funnily he started scoring for fun. 🙄
Despite the fantastic run we are on and the great stats, Derby County make a habit of wasting the potential of the players we have, with young Louie being a case in point.

I imagine Gayle being in and around the Stoke squad means he’ll be closer to fitness than Wickham.
I do agree that Wickham would play the Collins role better but his injury record is also poor.

Gayle would’ve played the lone striker role quite a bit in his career. Let’s hope he’s developed a way of holding off defenders that doesn’t rely on being a powerhouse.

TomTom92 reacted to Archied in Derby v Stevenage FC - Match Day Thread
Obviously it’s all hindsight but my gut is if we had put the team out that went on to nick the game from the start Stevenage would have battered and bruised them to the point of not being able to finish strong and win the game , we did things the other way round yesterday and I reckon that caught them on the hop and ducked them ,

Don’t understand why people are saying Warne got it wrong.

Yes I was moaning at half time. But unfortunately for Warne, Stevenage was always going to be tight.

If Sibley would’ve started he’d have done nothing for 60 mins before being hauled off.

Warne got it spot on today especially when you consider that our forward options are depleted.

Happy to hear we’re in for Gayle, let’s hope the EFL aren’t bum holes and let us sign a 34 year old.
