What “dismantling”?! Your take on things uses such odd and alarmist language at times.
We allowed 3 experienced cbs to leave at the expiry of their contracts and signed 2 younger but seemingly just as capable replacements, and added a youngster to the academy at cb following his deal expiring at a premier league club.
A backup goalkeeper left at the end of his loan and we’ve signed a permanent replacement on a 3 year deal.
We’ve allowed the one right back we had to go out on loan for experience and signed two proper right sided wing backs at a peak age therefore strengthening the squad in this position as we were playing 2 midfielders there last year.
A promising premier league loanee who could play on the left of defence returned to his parent club and upon the expiry of his contract signed for a team in the league above. We’ve signed a 28 year old Lwb in Elder who is in his peak years, has experience at this level and the league above and the last time he was in league one he ended up on the team of the year as his club went up as champions and he provided a hatful of assists along the way.
Knight and McGoldrick are the two big losses from last seasons squad. There’s been no “dismantling”. Knight left for a reasonable amount of money to a club in the league above, we’ve replaced him at rwb from last seasons squad and still have options in midfield. Knight’s big asset was his energy right? Running and pressing, the whole team is being drilled in this way with Ward and Wilson likely offering as much if not more tangible output in an immediate sense down the right than Knight did (this isn’t me doing Knight down but we have some elements of what he offered in the squad).
McGoldrick’s touch, vision, intelligence and goals are a loss. We’ve added a more industrious option in Washington and are looking to add another striker. We won’t match McGoldrick’s class but we’ll most likely have another body at the sharp end of the pitch working hard and getting on the end of chances.
It’s really not the disaster you seem repeatedly intent to profess.
EDIT - And the other premier league loanees we had were allegedly not up to much according to a lot of our fans. The only real loss in terms of output is Dobbin and as much as I liked him even I can admit to his inconsistencies.

Not really, League One players don't have the touch, vision etc required to play that patient game. The biggest problem, and we found this playing patient passing football in the Championship, is the off ball movement really lacks. Makes breaking teams down playing at that speed nearly impossible.
Bit of a nonsense discussion anyway. Only thing that really matters, is Warne has already noted that passing it side to side  is all well and good but it needs to be done quickly otherwise the defence shifts over and you gain nothing from it. I don't think anyone can disagree with that. Any talk of hoofball is completely overblown.

It’s not gloating about that at all. It’s pointing out to the vitriol squad that he’s a ram and he scored a goal while they prefer to sit there and snipe from the sidelines engaging in the worst of playground bullying.
Gloating ! Absolutely not. Supporting a team member yes !

The guy who doesn't get in decent scoring positions has for the second time in three games got in a good scoring position....
And the guy that can't finish has got his second goal of pre season
And the guy the can't head has got one of those goals from a header?

    But but but but........

Another contributor who shows signs of being reasonable and pragmatic…careful😄
It seems that we still have many fans who think we have a bottomless pit of money to draw on to sign players, particularly forwards. I presumed that wasn’t going to the case some time ago. We’re scratching around, trying to find value from a small number of players who might be available.

I think we should worry about the following season’s players next Summer, if we’ve gone up.  Surely, we can’t afford Championship-type forwards at this stage.

BOB BIGGS reacted to Simmo’s left foot in Is our budget any bigger than last year?
Which is exactly what Arthur Cox did very successfully. People need to realise the club is not awash with cash. Any good performance financially last season v budget wont be sat in a bank account. It just means there was less of negative cash flow. I doubt the club is generating a profit currently, if we are lucky we will be just about covering our costs. selling Bielek and Knight will give us less outgoings and generate a little cash, but that will soon be burned up on other outgoings over the next few months. Lets get real!

Genuinely baffles me some of the stuff I read on here and on Twitter. For what it's worth, to answer the question, I think we have obviously got a bigger budget than last season and so far I believe Warne has spent it very, very well. We are not be spending huge fees on players or making glamour signings but we are building a seriously formidable TEAM and squad at this level with the right characters, some quality and players that will fit our system.
Bradley and Nelson are incredible signings at this level. Big, strong, mobile (Nelson, not Bradley as much) a threat from set pieces and the physical, ugly men that Warne alluded to in the off season. Ward and Elder are arguably the two best full backs/wing backs in the league and add quality and a real attacking intent to our back line. I predict the pair of them will provide a hatful of assists.
Wilson I haven't seen as much of but everything I have read and seen, I believe it is somewhat of a coup and could turn out to be a very shrewd signing under the radar. Washington I feel is our most underrated signing of the window and one I can't believe our fans are baulking at signing. Stats can be so deceiving sometimes and just because he doesn't score 30 a season, he is 'underwhelming'. I have seen him play on a large number of occasions and always liked what I have seen. As Warne has alluded to, he runs in behind and stretches play (can't remember the last striker we've had that does this), presses tirelessly and will bring more goals out of the rest of the team; I feel he will really complement what we've got and end up as an unexpected fan's favourite.
Digressing slightly but it also makes me laugh how people think we should be signing May, Nombe and Smith etc. because someone on Twitter says they have had a good season, despite 90% of our fanbase probably having only seen them play once or twice. Has it ever occured to us that Warne doesn't want them? Also keep seeing Clarke-Harris linked; although I think our budget is bigger, I do not think we are going to shell out the 2-3 million pounds that it would take to land him; plus, in my opinion, he isn't all that anyway. Scores a lot of goals granted but feel he is a very limited flat track bully and we could do better for less money (I for one would like us to get Godden, if it is realistic - would be a very good signing).
A very long winded way of saying I think we do have a decent budget, are currently spending it very well and Warne is building a very, very good squad with a few more to come, whilst also not spunking money on rubbish and thinking about the club's long term future.

BOB BIGGS reacted to Raich Carter in Is our budget any bigger than last year?
I think we need to reset our expectations. Player wages are still high (almost all of our signings were playing in the Championship last year - they must be on similar money to what they got at their previous club) and overheads are significant (E.G. Moor Farm) so yes we have big gates but the TV money is dreadful at this level and that's what makes the difference. I strongly suspect incoming transfer fees bolster the bank balance to pay for wages, agents fees, etc but not much else.
We've been living in a dream world with MM - spending huge amounts of money that we just didn't have year after year so every penny counts at this level. Clowes will, rightly, be very risk averse and will want to limit his exposure to financial risk as it's well documented that the quickest way to stop being rich is to own a football club (our very own Lionel Pickering is an example).
My opinion is that we have a tiny budget for transfers and given the number free agents and the standard of player we need at this level, I think there's enough to go at without throwing money around. Obviously that's not what fans want to hear but equally, I don't want us in financial strife yet again.
Yes, we're Derby County. But we're Derby County in League One...

Seems almost impossible to run a self-sufficient football club below the PL and I will accept we work on the free transfers and low prices market with respect to our recent hardships. As long as the clubs long term future is not at risk I am content as long as we see that the over over all direction is forward even though the pace i slow.

Warne actually doesn't need to to do that.... Because you know what, he's the manager, we're the fans.... Our job is to support the team, no matter who is wearing the shirt ... Just like we did and have done so well the last few years.
This isn't aimed directly at you mate specifically but people need to realise that we are in the 3rd division, yes we might have a budget now, yes there are all these players on a free but has anyone considered that these players might be holding out for better offers.... For more money than we are prepared, not able, to pay? Or maybe they are all idiots who will upset the dressing room, we don't know.
Yes warne said he wanted the side to be younger, yes he said he wanted more pace, I'm sure he'd like to sign exactly what he knows he wants but football isn't like that.
I'm sure Warne _wants_ what he wants and he's forced into telling us all this info because the fans clamour for every bit of info nowadays but you know what, maybe he can't get what he _wants_.
He shouldn't be dragged over the coals for getting what he thinks will do the job even if it's not who he really wants...
He's got promotion fron this league what is it, three times? I think he is better placed to judge than us.

My first game as a Rams fan was in 1955 in the third division north I was 13. I bought my first season ticket in 1966 the last season of Tim Ward as manager and the first season of Kevin Hector(the King). I have never wavered in my love for Derby County, so in those 68 years I have seen the best and the worst of them. And I enjoyed last season as much as the first. And speaking of the King my wife and I have received a card from the King and Queen this morning on our 60th wedding anniversary. UTR.

BOB BIGGS reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in David McGoldrick - joined Notts County
I genuinely don't understand why I've just seen "League two is a bigger pull than Warne"
It's not league two. It's Notts County. It's his club. He wants to retire there. Fair play. Could have stayed here for more money. He's literally just said himself that no other club he would have gone for.
Internally they would have known about this for ages. I would imagine that Mcgoldrick has said "Look if Notts go up there's a chance I could go back there and I'd want to"
I wish him nothing but the best. Was unbelievable for us last season and without him we'd have been nowhere.
But that was the season of his life and we cannot be relying on him to do that again. We need 3-4 strikers chipping in with 8-15 goals each. We need wide players chipping in with 5-10.
It's not just about replacing Mcgoldricks goals with an individual it needs to be spread.
Other than Hourihane and NML. Goals from other areas of the team were pitiful.
But fans using this as a stick to beat Warne or the club with are a joke.

BOB BIGGS reacted to Caerphilly Ram in Haydon Roberts - signed for Bristol City
The posts of some people on this board don’t automatically equate to “the majority”. I for one would like to sign Roberts on a free and retain Sibley, Knight and Bird if feasible. I also accept that players will inevitably move on and if one, two or all of those 3 do leave we’ll have new players to support in their stead.
Roberts as a player has attributes we need in the squad, can cover a couple of positions, is young and has potential, signing him on a free would represent sensible business. I also think as it looks to be another summer of high numbers joining the squad, signing Roberts negates some of the settling in period other recruits may need as he’s just spent a year here.
