Correct - but the rhetoric that they they must be this and that might be missing the obvious just like McGoldrick who Warne would not have signed - if they are a good footballer they are a good footballer and this is the third division so do not discount the likes and type of a Chris Martin who can feed in the likes of our other forward thinking players

But if the rest of your team is built a certain way and other signings made to play in that way, what's the point in signing someone who won't work in that system?

There is some talent in those names listed, but it takes more than just a striker to get out of this league, as we saw ourselves last season.
Do those teams have the right blend/depth in their squads? is their keeper up to much? Can they defend? Are they resilient physically and mentally? Those are things I’d take into consideration as much as their striking options.
Same as with our squad of course, we still need numbers for depth and balance, along with strikers, on paper however our backline and midfield looks decent, we’ve got 2 very good goalkeepers at this level too, so I’m not panicking yet. 3 or 4 key additions in the coming week or 2 and things fall into place very quickly.

4 of those strikers were in the division last year and didn’t sniff automatics.

I just keep reminding myself that Didzy was absolutely not a goal scorer before he came here. In fact, he struggled to stay fit before he came here. Only need to find the right player for this team for it to work.

Agree it would hit the pride hard. But providing he produced on the pitch we’d get over it.

Like I say the link is weak at best. But looking at his career projection a loan to a top end league 1 club does make sense.

Don’t even think it’s from our side as much as theirs. Just zero chance they’re sending anyone to help us out this league.

Just seen the weakest of weak rumours on twitter that we’re in talks with Forest to loan Dale Taylor. He spent January onwards at Burton and seemed to impress.

Only 19 so a bit young for what Warne was saying but I wouldn’t be against it. I remember the Burton commentator talking about how well built he was for his age.

Think we would all collectively eat our hats if we loaned anyone from Forest.

I could be very wrong, but him suggesting we are close to a striker who seven other clubs are after strikes me as a free agent, along with the comment about an ‘older goal scorer’ when creating a needless caveat to the profile of player he’s after (22-32). It just seems very coincidental to me.

Gonna pick him out just because… but there’s no way in hell anyone would confuse Waghorn with a goal scorer.

Bit surprising we weren’t all over this given Warne’s comments today about struggling to sign strikers. Perhaps we were and got priced out which would be concerning.
No need to push the panic button yet mind.

Or, he’s 30, wanted a 3 year deal, has only scored goals in the last 2 seasons of his whole career and our funds are better elsewhere.

I don't like the sound of possibly going with just the 3 either! 😬

    Collins, Washington & Harris 😂

Neither do I but we’ve gone into seasons with grand expensive signings and been just as s****. So let’s go.

Think he has gone back to Solihull Moors, but I’m purely putting 2+2 together as Warne went to the final, both impressed, Chesterfield are local and both have a possibility of making our first team

He’s out of contract. Their retained list says they offered him a new deal but no updates since as far as I could see.

When looking at players from Chesterfield/Notts County is he was one of about 5 potentials I thought at the time.

I thought every standing space had to have the capacity to be re-jigged as a seat (for certain games), and therefore the safe standing scenario remans the same?  🤷‍♂️

Not quite. Yes they do have to have rail seats for European competitions, but for when they’re not used, the capacity is greater. For us, we wouldn’t need rail seats unless we got a few promotions.

Had Sky Sports on NowTV for years. Normally do a deal for 20ish a month. It's internet based though. Was great when we were in the championship for the midweek games on red button/bonus streams.

Tempted to move to this next year when our Sky runs out. Does it have any on demand or anything? Think the only thing we'll miss is recording.

Ideally need a goal scoring midfield option too!

Would be nice, but not essential. It would be good to have the likes of NML, Barkhuizen, Sibley + signing to take some load off a central striker. I think we will play with two attacking midfielders with a single striker, so those players have to chip in with double figures too ideally. Would certainly be nice to get the centre backs to chip in with close to double figures between the lot, but that could be a pipe dream.

I guess it’s getting the blend right.

We need pace and aggression for sure but we’ve had pace in Barkhuisen and NML. It’s what happens when the ball falls to them in front of goal that matters.

Calmness and accuracy are required and only a select few have it at this level.

I’d say we need two realistic 15 a season players in because I don’t have faith in Collins to get that many (useful contributor to the team though)

That was just an example. I don't think you need some kind of master finisher at this level. Let's face it, we got Didzy's greatest ever season and he wasn't a striker known for scoring. What we definitely do need to do is buy more tickets to raffle. If we create more openings, then you can still score more goals despite being less clinical. We don't want to be in a position we we were in at times last season where it felt like every chance we got we really needed to take because they weren't common.

Look back over the years and see who got automatic promotion with 67 goals.

I’m not saying we definitely need one star.

Just that many of the players we’re being linked with are gambles in that their scoring record is somewhat sporadic.

Let’s hope we get a forward line to get excited about.

I, personally, sense we will get some players who maybe aren't that prolific on paper but will have certain attributes than we can mould into what we want. This is the market we're shopping at now, not buying high on a player after a purple patch (Blackman et al).

For example, we need pace and athleticism up the top end of the pitch, there's no doubt about that. We may get exactly that, but I doubt on paper a lot of fans who are used to our previous 10 years of business will get excited about it. And let's face it, they'll probably write him (and Warne) off.

Agree, but getting promoted automatically involves scoring more goals than we got last year.

Bit of a logic fail here. It doesn’t, for several reasons… concede less or other teams score less being the primary two. Could win every game 1-0 and go up.

Not your original point, but it certainly doesn’t require one man to get 20+.
