I have feeling he’s kept the most clean sheets in the entire EFL, not just L1.  That’s pretty impressive.

Why he then didn't get a call up after that wonder-goal, I'll never know

And his comment about a clear penalty for handball.  It clearly hit the defenders head.  His dad’s arrogance without the talent.

Bolton pushed us all the way, nobody else really
Nobody pushed Portsmouth, us included. They went top in September and never budged an inch. Nobody laid a glove on them, let alone Peterborough of all teams
People made fun of our runners up trophy but I promise you Darren old chum, they don't give out trophies for giving it a jolly good try
Have a nice season next year. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bloke and club. Really weird bunch over there

One of the concerns before the season was how we were going to replace McGoldrick's goals. It was the biggest cloud on the horizon, but I'm always happier when the goals come from all over the pitch, rather than just one source. Well done to everyone for stepping up. But it helps to have a prolific striker, so well done also to James Collins who showed why he has scored so many in his career, and proved himself a leader and figurehead.

When I reflect back on the season, this is the most pleasing thing. The number of players that contributed to our goal total was fantastic.

I'm working my way through the highlights from every game at the moment - it's amazing how everyone does something through the season. Fornah's great run and cutback to NML for the late winner against Bristol Rovers (getting us 2 extra points), Wash's goals against Burton, Northampton and Exeter, Bark's scoring glut over Christmas (4 goals), TJJ bagging 3 points against Port Vale, Gayle scoring 3 in 5 and netting us 9 points, Thommo's goal against Oxford helping turn around a 0-2 deficit....

I don't remember the DC quote about us being able to pay fees, though I do remember him saying that our budget was generous enough for a promotion challenge (or words to that effect). I also remember at the time of the CBT signing the DET reporting that we had no money left in the "transfer pot" but did in the "loan pot" and the EFL agreed we could use that to sign CBT (it's all detailed in old threads from the time).
It sounds like the EFL wanted to control the limits of what we could spend on the 3 elements: player wages, permanent transfers and temporary loan transfers. It wasn't, it seems, simply an approved overall budget but more sophisticated than that?

That’s an interesting view.  Ward got injured in the 3rd game of the season against Oxford, that’s why he wasn’t picked.  And he playing as a wing-back, his best position.  Wilson then played and by the time he was fit we’d also signed Nyambe and we’re playing with a back 4.

Just seems a weird way to try and, presumably save money. The 3rd keeper is realistically never playing, so having one who is experienced, good with younger players, good in the dressing room, trains well, is comfortable with his role, has coaching aspirations and is cheap surely seems a pretty smart thing to have.

I'm struggling to get my head round the "get rid of CBT" posts.
Agreed, he hasn't apart from Pompey and one cameo sub appearance, done much for us, YET. However, the lad was carrying an injury when he joined us. How do you expect a player who's not 100% right, physically, to be brilliant?

I read on the BBC website that they played Hull 4 times this season in the league and cup.  And had a different manager for each game.  That might be a bit of clue as to why they’ve ended up getting relegated.
    Oh well.

Being a newly promoted side with the type of player we have trying to play possession based football would be a thankless task. Our squad has been constructed to defend, set pressing traps and move forward at pace. It can actually be quite fun to watch when executed with the correct personnel. For example watching Luton in the premier league (I know they’ll be relegated) or Coventry who aren’t a possession based side and also set up with 5 at the back.

Nobody is saying we were poverty stricken. And before you accuse me of doing this by using the word "shoestring", let me just clarify that I used that word simply to describe the small amount of money we had to work with and the balancing act the club had to go through to sign a player: CBT being the most obvious example of this. Fornah and Kane Wilson two others.
Our budget, even under restrictions, was almost certainly competitive when compared with the division as a whole. I'm sure Cheltenham Town and Bristol Rovers would struggle to match us ever with the EFL looming over us.
But we certainly weren't in a position to splash the cash either, were we?
Other teams were managing to beat us to the signing of players because they could pay fees that we couldn't. Warne even acknowledged this when speaking about a striker that had joined a rival (believe it was Lang going to Portsmouth?).
You're trying to make out that we had money to spend and just chose not to. I don't think that's true or even fair.
The wider point of this whole discussion though is around whether Warne and the club did an impressive job recruiting this season with those restrictions in place. I think they did.
You don't seem to want to engage in that discussion, but instead you would rather play the role of an English teacher marking an exam paper, dishing out big red crosses for the use of terminology you find "erroneous"
I've agreed with many of your points over the season on Warne and his style of play, but it's starting to feel now like you are just entrenched in a position of constant criticism of him that isn't particularly fair.

As far as I can see the manager had a certain amount to spend , he chose to spend it on wages rather than fees in the main , we obviously had a decent budget for the level , seems to me warne used it well to get the job done and let’s not pretend ,, getting back to the championship as fast as possible was really important, the man got the job done whilst breaking records and giving us days like Carlisle at home and some fantastic away days for the faithful and despite the claims of the style of football driving fans away no matter what division we ended up in it seems st sales are very healthy and there’s a feel good factor around the club ,,,, we all know toppish end budget garuantee s nothing unless you have a manager and coaches capable of using it properly,
there’s no one I would pick above warne to have a crack at the championship next season as derby manager

It's absolute tosh. We were required to agree to a two year monitored business plan by the EFL with parameters each season with which we had to comply. If we'd refused to comply with these restrictions, we'd have been sanctioned once again. Every signing had to be approved by the EFL. Both Birmingham and Reading have had points deductions applied for breaching agreed business plans.

Some people keep banging on about our restrictions being self imposed which, of course, they were but do you not think the club had some kind of steer from the EFL or at the very least had an idea of what might be acceptable? I don’t think the club were completely free to set whatever level of restrictions they wanted knowing they’d be approved regardless.

As I said earlier in this thread, the wage bill is probably that high due to the contracts of players not signed by Warne, so I’m not sure it’s fair to use that against him.
Think your second sentence is pretty knowingly unfair, too. You know as well as I do that there were still restrictions on spending; restrictions that have now been lifted!
I’ll say it again: there are areas that you can rightly criticise Warne on, but this surely isn’t one of them!
