VulcanRam got a reaction from Ellafella in Liverpool v Derby (A) Matchday Thread
Well it was a good night, the players worked incredibly hard and gave every ounce of effort.
Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I was a little frustrated at times during the game as when we had the very occasional chance to really have a go at them we backed off and off. Their back line down the flanks was susceptible but when we had a chance to cross there were no bodies in the box or supporting. Understandable for sure, but a little frustrating. Maybe I'm still not used to us being just an average L1 side but, rightly or wrongly, I wanted us to have more of a go at times (not many times, we barely had the ball, but when we did we wasted it constantly - the few moves we did try and play we looked good).
That's not a criticism though. We looked like we set out from minute one for a 0-0 and great credit to the lads for their effort and Wildsmith's outstanding goalkeeping for getting there. He really is becoming a stand out player this season, considering when he came to us he was Sheff Wed's third choice goalie. The last 25, when Klopp bought on the senior players, we did superbly to hold them off.
The risk when you go away is always who you're next to; we got a bunch of late 20/early 30 lads who's language was not for the faint hearted and who for 90 minutes screamed "god save the king", stuff about the IRA and Enguuuurrrllaaannnd, focusing more on the home fans than the game half the time. Honestly.
Liverpool crowd very quiet, understandably for a game like this when there will be plenty of people who don't normally go and the opposition. Never really got that wow factor when inside, despite it being one of the most historic/iconic grounds in the world. First real noise came at penalties.
In all the team can be proud of their efforts. It was a decent evening out and the first time I'd been to Anfield since the early 90s. But it won't be the most memorable game this season I imagine.

Fwiw, I think Curtains has a point. After going down to 10 men our tactics were as bad as our ball control. No one in our side tried to grab hold of the game, we just kept giving them cheap possession by either hoofing it, or losing control of relatively simple passes. Poor substitutions too. We got everything we deserved on that second half performance.

I’m really on about retaining possession in other areas as we constantly give the ball away in our haste to get forward with Warneball
Warne alluded to the only thing Osula did right was score and inferred he needs to retain possession better .

I love British TV me and especially the beeb - says the frenchman - I get french TV and it is sh!te, most of it. The equivalent of MOTD is 1 a hour program on a Sunday morning. 20 mins of adverts. For several years TF1 did not show any goals from ligue 1 cos they hadn't bought the rights, I am not making this up, a MOTD with no goals or matches highlights. Amazon Prime have got the rights now and sold them highlights but they still don't show all the goals all as it would cost them too much and there isn't enough time for all the adverts. When France are playing, half time analysis is 14 mins of adverts solid followed by a 30 secs "detailed" analysis of the first half by Deschamp. By this I mean 1 question and answer from the on field reporter " Didier, what did you make of the 1st half?"
I used to work/travel abroad quite a lot. No foreign TV gets anywhere near British TV and this is mostly due to the beeb setting a very high standard -  as mentioned in my previous post.
Be careful what you wish for.

Watched the C4 documentary on Italia 90 and hooliganism last night with my 15-year-old - his reaction to having to wait a week for the next installment was just that!!

I've paid £160 for the 2 or 3 games so yeah I will. But I could watch them all on ITV and not be bothered if that's the way it went. As long as the World Cup and Euros don't get sold to subscription channels, then ITV2 could show the football presented by Gemma Collins and I wouldn't care.
Anyway, for those that read posts, I stated I use the website. But I'd probably still use it with ads on. Doesn't stop me going on SKY's.
But whatever, the main point of my post was to state they go around chasing and wasting money on the wrong audiences. Nothing they could put on tele will want me to continue paying £160 a year.
Imagine waiting all week to watch a programme at 8pm on a Friday night.......us young'uns find that ridiculous.
I will still pay the fee, however, because I am part of a society that finds the service valuable and some people get far more than their money's worth from the service. And that's fair enough - just because I don't doesn't mean I have to be part of the anti-BBC brigade. I just dont want them to chase my viewership. They wont get it because they can't offer me anything i can't already get. My criticism is wasting millions on s*it and taking away local services.
No doubt people will just concentrate on snippets of this post and ignore the point.

Prefer ITV’s coverage, Laura Woods instead of Gary Lineker, oh and no Robbie Savage it’s bliss.

A lot of that makes sense, but I see the BBC as a service, not a business. I think they should focus of educating, informing and challeging more vs the more business sense offerings like Come Dancing. They also need to drop extremists and shadowy think tanks from debates, in a flawed attempt to show both sides of an argument.
If you don't really consume much bbc content and bemoan the 12 quid a month cost, then think of it as a donation that allows loads of older folks to enjoy local radio about where they live. Or think of the worldwide prestige that the BBC gives us, with the increase of soft power it brings too.

This all makes sense to me. Local radio audiences have shrunk with the ageing audience, they are not being replaced by a younger audience, and that trend will only continue. All local radios stations’ big audience is for the football, and that won’t change.
Podcast and OTT services is the present and the future and that’s where the attention will be focussed. All the BBC is doing here is catching up with modern media consumption.
It could do more but would need more money. The license fee, which I think represents great value for money across TV, radio and content on Sounds (I like a good political podcast and a R4 drama), is frozen and has become a political hot potato that no-one will touch, but without it raising it and causing national outrage, it’s hands are tied.

Regional television has faced huge cuts in recent years, local newspapers are all but dead, so local radio to follow was inevitable, but sadly it does make sound business sense.

Try working away overseas for a fortnight and put-up with the dirge that is non British TV in your hotel.

There isn't actually a hard and fast rule, it's down to whether the referee deems "time wasting" as being unsporting behaviour. But your assessment is spot on. You're never going to book someone for time wasting when they're losing because it's their own time they are wasting so there is no advantage to them/disadvantage to the opposition.
Thought the officials were excellent yesterday. Good communication between them and a referee that was decisive and managed the game and players very well.

Wildsmith 7.5 liking him more every week
Smith 7 nice and stead out of position
    Cashin 7 reliable
Forsyth 7 ok - so an extra point given for an incredibly important flick off the top of his head straining every sinew in the second half, which as the last man, would have left their striker one on one for 4-3. Point also removed for clumsy penalty giveaway.
Mendez-Laing - 8.5 our most consistent forward player, week in week out, and thankfully didn't have to track back. The verse about his neck is uneccessary.
Bird ?- 6.5 was busier but still doesn't really like to match the opposition's willingness to get stuck in.
Hourihane 6.5 better than in recent weeks, got about the pitch more
Roberts - 7 Good energy, work needed on final ball
Sibley  6 Offered very little and the subs seemed to disrupt us
Osula 6 Same, looked a bit cumbersome like he needed half an hour to warm up to speed
McGoldrick 10. Sublime, just sublime. A class above.
Collins 8.5 Great to have him back and thankfully he picked up where he left off. A real menace.
Dobbin 6  Good pace, good work ethic but he looks like an inexperienced player learning on the job, which of course he is. Missed a sitter second half to absolutely put the game to bed.
Thompson 6 came on and did the job asked of him.

I'm not sure what you've based that opinion on? He has flashes of excellence here and there, but consistency has always been a problem.
And while you can always argue he doesn't get a run in the team, equally ask yourself why he doesn't get a run in the team if he's as good as you say. He's shown no signs of dominating games at either the Championship or L1.
If he's a game changer, why isn't he changing games? I like Sibley but it's always "he will do this if......"
Maybe he will turn out to be amazing, but until he does start doing any of the above you mention, it's just potential that will go unfulfilled. At the moment he's a good squad player but has no more reason to demand a place than anyone else.

VulcanRam reacted to Bris Vegas in Is Paul Warne the next Nigel Pearson?
    I hope not.
We all know Nigel Pearson’s 4-4-2 direct football was never going to work after Clough and McClaren had built a possession-based 4-3-3 side.
I’m sensing a deja vu. Sort of.
We had to get bodies in the building during the summer. But all of our signings were geared towards a possession-based 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
Smith, Hourihane and McGoldrick are three ball-playing central players. NML and Bark wide forwards.
But after just a handful of games we have ripped up the summer recruitment by ditching Rosenior and going for a manager with a completely different style.
Paul Warne plays 3-5-2. He has three promotions with that. I rate him highly. He isn’t going to move away from something he knows works, especially at this level.
But it’s clear we don’t have the players for his style. Barks is looking terrible at LWB. NML looks a shadow of the exciting wide forward of the first few games. I can see Hourihane struggling to get back in. McGoldrick too.
To get promoted, something must give. Warne will not get us promoted with this current side.
Changes will have to be made in January and next summer. I just hope DC is patient and smart enough to realize this and gives Warne the time to build a side who can play his system.

I based it on being at the Accy Stanley game were he was arguably our man of the match despite Osulas clinical finishing. He looked sharp after PW showed a bit of faith in him by playing him in his preferred position. He continually left Accies 'average' League 1 players in his lurch.
You raise a fair point as to why he doesn't always get a run in the team. I'll be honest I don't have a definitive answer to that. I just hope PW continues his faith in him and he repays that faith by fulfilling his obvious talent.
I think a lot of why LS hasn't fulfillied that talent is he struggles how to channel that raw aggressive side of his game. If PW can nuture that side of his game then he is 100% gonna be a cornerstone in how we move forward as team. It does feel very much like it's now or never for him. Hopefully he grasps the opportunity with both hands. I'm backing him to do it.
