Cant believe posters moaning at @Big Trav doing exactly what this thread was for, especially looking at the transfer forum full of players we were probably never looking at but were somehow substantiated! Thanks BT for the gossip and fun provided over the summer. Especially from someone who will never know anything unless we are ever linked to a certain PL player as know his mum

I think this is key. We just need to give it a bit of time. I don't think the chopping and changing of lineups/system/formations is helping us at all.
Our best football last season came when Forsyth was next to Cashin. They formed a really solid partnership. In front you had a midfield combination of Bird Knight and hourihane. McGoldrick the central striker with wingers either side of him. It was round pegs in round holes. It just worked. And that's where we saw some pretty nice football and results.
We are nowhere near a settled side at the moment and it's showing.

I done my ACL when I was 24 playing football and it gave me flash backs. Definitely an ACL injury from what I saw, Definite season ender unfortunately. Real shame because he's a real handy player with a good future. He was just finding his feet with confidence and above all, he seems like a real nice lad.

Wishing him a speedy recovery ❤️

He was actually really good as a pundit - he clearly understood what was going on in the pitch and was eloquent explaining it.  Well worth a listen back.
The gist off it was, he’d talked quite a bit pre-match about how other teams had beaten Bolton recently - played a wide front 3 to stretch their back 3 and pick holes in it - and was baffled that we hadn’t really tried to do the same.  A fair bit about players not being able to do the jobs they were asked to do too - Fornah as a number 10, NML as a wingback etc.  It could just be me being my usual negative self, but I think he was pretty shocked about the whole way we approached the match and was biting his tongue, because he didn’t want to be too rude about Warne.

Yep. Makes you wonder what might have happened if we'd set up to have some possession of our own?
Maybe they'd have still got their two but we might have had three or four ourselves.
Warne does give the opposition too much respect, imo.

No you're not being negative thats totally how it was. He seem shocked. I've been "too soon to judge Warne" but I had forgotten those parts you mention when I summed up earlier. Yes he mentioned how other teams had obvs researched Bolton, got results and couldnt believe we hadnt done the same. Yes said Fornah seemed to have no idea of the role he was supposed to be doing. Couldn't believe NML not subbed. He really said what he thought in a factual way but you ate right seemed to be trying to be polite!

George Cox? Left sided defender who came through Brighton’s academy and has spent a few years in the Dutch top flight, had a trial at Hull earlier in the summer. I’ve got no basis for this other than the fact he’s still available and we could probably do with one more body in the lb/lwb position. At 25 he’s a good age too….. which means it’s probably Gary Madine, Stefan Johansen or Phil Jagielka that Warne’s referring to

Football has 5 to 10 year cycles.
Southampton, Leeds, Leicester and forest did their time at this level.
Villa, Newcastle, Burnley, West Ham did their time in the championship.
Clubs can be on top of the world, or at least think they are, and then 5 years later they can be an utter shambles on and off the pitch.
Forest fans can quite rightly gloat and poke fun at the moment, why wouldn't they? Make hay while the sun shines and all that. Football has this unique ability to come back and bite you in the backside.
Pompey fans laughing at Southampton as they won the fa cup and entertained Milan in Europe....
Leeds giving it the big un and splashing the champions league money.....
Keep your powder dry and be careful how you treat people on the way up as they will pass you st some point.

I am pleased he is still with us. Hopefully this hasnt messed with his head/team spirit too much.
What is the basic difference does anyone know between championship and league 1 club income? Is that likely more or less next season under revised tv deal?

I guessing Cashin didn’t put any pressure on, as if he did he would have gone. We would have just had to have taken the best offer as it’s no good having a player who doesn’t want to be here.

Tbf to Cashin. all this will be out of his control. Yes, he'll have a say but in reality, if Derby had accepted a bid he'd have gone. that's  professional football. Likewise, the move hasn't happened for whatever reason so he's got to stay.
Now he needs to show he is a professional footballer by doing his very best for Derby. He's young and knows he'll get other chances if he performs well for us.
Fully expecting him to show his mettle and be our POTS and help us to promotion.

The Brighton link has been around for long enough and they have some decent money from their summer dealings. If they were serious about signing him then they could’ve got to an agreement much quicker than the last hours of deadline day.

For me this still rankles more than any other element of the troubles endured by the club. The systematic dismantling of the academy and watching the Premier League clubs hoover up anyone they identify as having above average ability, often for absolute peanuts, only to claim that they are doing us a favour. They can all get in the f****** bin.
The worst thing is that most often, these kids are just dumped in 'cold-storage', or loaned out to smaller clubs for stupid fees. For all the dozens that the likes of Chelsea snare every year, very few ever get to play for the buying club. To me this encapsulates a deal of what is now rotten in our once beautiful game and this oversight committee, or whatever they are calling themselves, need to have this colossal imbalance high on their 'needs fixing' list. I won't be holding my breath.

If I was generally happy in life, at a club I love, with my support network around me, playing each week, young and a bit of a local hero I would sign a new contract if I wasnt convinced I would def be in and about 1st team squad on any move. I would give it a couple more years here and either hope we go up or get a better move later. But my main motivation would be my overall happiness not £. I would also feel some loyalty to club giving me the chance but thats me.
