I seem to recall it would be a substantial deposit due from the preferred bidder that would cover us until the remainder of the season.

Personally I feel we should keep as many players as possible from our main squad at the moment for league one, some exceptions such as Jozwiak/CKR/Baldock.
But I do feel a season in league one would suit a lot of our youngsters and if we can keep Lawrence/Knight/Davies/Jags it will have a nice core.

Can’t see Beliek going anywhere soon.

one) whose going to buy an injured/just fit player?

two) it’s bad business? We owe what £5/6 million on him? At the moment we’d be lucky to get £2million for him. No point in selling, we’d still be paying Arsenal.

Big shout, but I don’t think I’ll be proved  wrong. Thompson will be the best player we’ve produced since Hughes and Hendrick. It’s not just his ability, his mentality is spot on to make it.

I actually like it, it was the first time we were caught out this week and that was due to a poor touch more than anything. I prefer it when we mix it up a bit though. Hit the channels a bit then play short or play short from the keeper. Wayne is right we have created more space when we do it because both strikers normally press which take there first line of defence out of the equation.

To sell a business, you want to present it in the best way. Selling Lawrence and Buchanan might have meant we really struggled in the first two months of the season and put off a perspective buyer. We may have sold them and lost Rooney because he wasn’t able to recruit. Meaning the club looks less and less appealing.

Think of it as selling your house, you would try to make it as presentable as possible before you market it. It might be a little bit tired but you wouldn’t smash up your kitchen.

Well yeah it was the owner that gambled on promotion… if we gambled at the casino and didn’t win, we’ve lost our money. I can’t exactly say to the dealer, “well I didn’t win so I’m not giving you my money”
He could have simply backed us within FFP, stuck it out with managers etc. But no every single year we had to spend a fortune paying over the odds for players and gambling on promotion.

I mean even under Cocu… £10m on Beliek, whose brain child was that?! “I  know what will get us out of this league £10m CDM” not Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, Jarred Bowen etc. CDM. Ffs ?‍♂️.

If this was genuinely covid then great yeah fair enough. But no, Mel bought the club virtually Derby free. I think he paid off a small mortgage on the ground when he took over. We are currently £50/60m in debt. What has he actually put into the club? Apparently we have a £30m turnover in the the championship… so 5 years at £30m = £150m plus £50m debt = 200m. I doubt he’s put much money in the club at all.

IMO he should pay off all the clubs debts and stop waiting for other people to clear up his mess

Genuinely the more I think about what Mel has done, the more it makes my blood boil.
Mel is reportedly worth £515 million! Source Sunday times. Lets assume they’re wrong and he’s “only” worth £200million. The man has more than enough to run the club in (his word) “Perpetually”.
This really is a man who has the means to pay but won’t. He’s openly admitted gambling on promotion yesterday!

At the very least he should be made to pay off the clubs debt, and leave the club how he found it. My understanding is the club under GSE only had the mortgage outstanding on the ground and it wasn’t a significant number.

I don’t think we should protest at the games as I don’t feel it’s fair on the team. Could we organise a march through Derby city centre to the ground on a non Matchday, try and get some national press to take notice and apply some pressure. At worst we might disgrace him to the nation…

Reports today, he’s done well in his other investments. Not overly  accurate but according to the Sunday times he’s worth £515m. Even if he’s worth half of that he can more than afford to keep the club running. Even if he’s worth £100m he’d still be one of the richest owners in the championship.

Ultimately, whatever Mel has said and done. The fact is he bought the club, he authorised the contract and signed the cheques in a gamble to get us into the premier league, it hasn’t worked out and he should be the one paying for it now. The guy is a wealthy enough man to keep the club  afloat for many many years to come. The simply fact is he doesn’t want to.
How does this persist? Why when it happened to Wigan and Bury was it not sorted.
FFP\P&S is a broken system… it allows clubs to loose £39 million over a 3 year period before anyone takes notice?! Bury can’t afford to loose £39m and now they are gone.
I have said for a long time now, and I heard G Neville say something similar at the weekend. There needs to be real time regulation of clubs. There needs to be a way of making owners accountable. Let’s use the example of Mel. Mel bought Derby and he was reportedly worth £500m apparently he still is?! But let’s say he’s not and he’s “only” now worth £100m. He’s still got £100m that rightly (unfortunately not legally) should be in the club.

Morally how is it right that Mel has £100m but the staff member at Moore farm won’t be paid and they will have to beg borrow steal to buy a loaf of bread now?
Why is it that Wayne Rooney is paying for the teams away trips?
Why is is that loyal Derby fans who paid for their season tickets and asked for a refund during the pandemic were ignored?!

Something has to be done in future. Owners should have to personally guarantee their clubs liability’s over and above their incomings. Even if the there was some protection to owners - for example If you have an owner worth - £500m they have to personally guarantee the club until their down to their last £10m.
Maybe then when Mel was hell bent on promotion, he’d have thought more about the contracts he was signing! He’d have thought harder about sacking Clement, Pearson, Cocu. He’d have thought harder about appointing them and he’d have know that if this goes wrong it’s going to cost him most of his fortune.

However, this is not the case and Mel can now got to bed tonight sleeping like a baby, knowing that his money is safe. I genuinely believe he thinks he’s been hard done by here and it’s not his fault. Mel if you’re reading, pay off the debts. We know you can afford to. Just leave the club in the same state that you found it in.
