I think maybe, and I guess this is what Klopp was getting at in his roundabout way,  is that it’s a bit disrespectful to all the Liverpool’s previous European achievements to wear that shirt. As much as I don’t personally like Liverpool, there’s players on the pitch for them who have earnt it. 
As you say, if Leeds wanted to make a statement the best thing was to probably talk to Liverpool about making a unified and more powerful statement. Instead it comes across a bit Leeds-y in that it’s all for show but with little substance.

Good to see Liverpool players showing that the most important thing to them is the supporters, by refusing to wear shirts saying that 'football is for the fans'. I pretty much think that they are all wondering how much more money their agent will be able to get them.
If the lot of them sat down on kick off, with prior agreement with Leeds, and took off their Liverpool shirts to reveal a football is for the fans statement (possibly with an 'but we all hate Leeds' addendum) then that would show the world what they thought. Instead they are probably calling their social media fixer to ask their personal watch vendor to pop round with something tasteful and gold and diamondy, as they rub their hands with dollar signs in their eyes and sink to their knees to suck down Satan's black worm jism, as Bill Hicks would probably say.
I truly belong to the generation who has fallen out of love with the game and those involved with it. Give me Gary Micklewhite and Bobby Davison any day of the week.

Does anyone know why it takes long for someone to prove they have access to the funds required? 
Is there any sort of confirmed way that it can be done quickly, like a intermediate bank could perhaps receive a transfer of a substantial amount of money to show the cash was there?
Or is it more a case of my mates mate has some company/shares/ office blocks they will sell if you agree the sale, and it will take them 48 hours to go through. Actually another 48 hours. 1 week. 1 month. 1...forget about it.
You would like to think that large dealings like this are professional and well managed, but it seems more like shady deals in the back of a pub, just with potentially vast sums of money.

Just to demonstrate how angry this European Super League nonsense has made me, I am actively rooting for Leeds tonight. The "big six" have screwed up so much that they've somehow made Leeds the good guys.

Forget changing the amortisation rules and taking court action against former employees, let's start referee intimidation and blackmail oppo goalkeepers. Get some of the weaker academy prospects into football administration and in 20 years, we'll have our own people running the game on the inside. Forget crying about fair play in the media, if a rival is spying on our training session, beat up one of their people.
If we controlled the police, by now Keogh would have returned from his freak shower injury and be leading us to glory. Or not.

We have done this deal the opposite way round to the Sheikh. Mel has seen everything he wants and needs to sell the club before going to the EFL, I also believe Alonso has paid a deposit too.
Not its down to the EFL checks which arent simply about just proof of funds. The EFL have someone new in Birch leading these checks so I expect they will be thoroughly carried out. When Wigan got to this stage the final EFL checks took a few weeks I believe. This doesnt mean anything dodgy is going in terms of the potential buyer just that the rights checks are being made. Wigans deal eventually went through.
Id rather weeks of thorough checks than just needing proof of funds and authorising the sale within 48 hours.

If a deal is held up at the bit where proof of funds are required it's usually because they don't have the money. 

Surely the company just takes one pound out of your account to prove it is real and that you have funds.

I’ve done a couple of these on a ‘show and tell’ basis but it really should be mel’s job to establish the bona fideo.  EFL should be looking at the background to the controllers and dig up the dirt.  I say that but who knows what goes on in the EFL
it is fairly easy for the custodian of the wealth to provide a supporting statement of assets.  It will also be possible to get such a statement from the controllers accountant presuming that person is properly regulated.  Having received that Mel should be asking about the liquidity and whether it is encumbered.
if you think about it, any person providing a wealthy man with financial services will be desperate to show he is supportive as possible.  If the disclosed new owners have funds it should take no more than 48 hours
