chezzyram got a reaction from Day in Pre-Season Friendlies 2023/24
I hear what you are saying Angie but I think there are valid points on both sides of the argument. I will be going but only for the reasons that you rightly set out, but I am 'putting myself out' for Fozzy rather than looking forward to it really and it shouldn't be like that. A testimonial should be entertaining, a celebration, a fun day out for the family and a preseason friendly against Stoke doesn't tick any of those boxes. I can understand why there is more interest in the Matlock game, if you take loyalty to Fozzy out of the equation it is simply a more attractive day out

Got my tickets last night thanks to B4's heads up on here. I'm not really bothered what the lineup or result is, the joy of being able to buy general admission tickets online in a simple 2 minute transaction without having to jump through hoops, create multiple email addresses, buy memberships and attend every away game since Steve Bloomer was a lad has made it worthwhile already

chezzyram got a reaction from Premier ram in Notts County or Chesterfield
There are currently 6 teams in the playoffs so it would reduce it by one but I agree it would be a much more sensible and fair way of doing things, especially in a season where the top two exceed 100 points.
Congratulations to Notts, a team of that size and tradition should be in the football league but hats off to Chesterfield too, they were there very much as the supporting cast but gave everything and gave Notts a very hard fought game

Well, if two went up automatically, they could have a four team playoff that mirrors the EFL arrangement, would give an extra team something to play for and increased revenues too.

I think when the promotion was set between the Conference and EFL there was a much bigger gap in terms of finance between the two.
The thought of relegation from the EFL would have been devastating. It was almost a death sentence for a club.
These days the Conference is much stronger, with some great teams, grounds and attendances. BT Sport coverage, too.
Only one automatic promotion place is ridiculous. Should be two, with a third coming up through the playoffs.

I agree, one automatic promotion place makes it an incredibly difficult league to get out of. Increasing it to two has been mooted for next season though whether it happens is anyone's guess, I suspect the biggest stumbling block might be the EFL although it must benefit them having the likes of Notts and Wrexham back. The playoffs are loaded in favour of the higher placed teams though with 2nd and 3rd going straight to a one game semi final with home advantage

The only Chesterfield player remotely capable of playing in league 1 is Dobra, who happens to be a winger, but even that is a bit of a stretch of the imagination. Scored a good goal today though whereas Rodriguez looked nothing special and Langstaffe barely had a touch

I don't understand the Nottingham love in either.
Nor do I get the argument that they deserve it. They finished 23 points above Chesterfield I know, but had Peterborough lost on Sunday we would be playing Sheffield Wednesday tonight having finished 20 points behind them, would they 'deserve' to beat us in that scenario. It's been a freakish season in the National League, Chesterfield amassed 84 points themselves which is no mean feat.

I don't think Warne is in a difficult position, he is very limited in the choices he can make. Aside from the fact that we can't rely on favours from Barnsley and have to go for the win, there is no risk or jeopardy in revealing his hand because realistically there is only one hand to reveal. Apart from rotating a couple of players between the first 11 and bench our match day squad virtually picks itself. Our difficulties have been well documented and everyone including Darren Moore knows that. Having said that I'm confident we can make the playoffs and beat them over 2 legs, if we're on it we're good enough on our day.
