With his injury history I’m not sure anyone would pay a decent price would they? I’d think he’s bound to stay at least for this season

If we have no new owner by January then sadly this will be the administrators decision, some one out there will take a punt at a bargain price

Agreed he is injury prone but lets be honest we dont have many assets to sell

I can accept the loss. To be honest I don’t really care about yesterday’s game. I do care that only 3 or 4 players clapped the fans. On a Wednesday night about 3000 of us made the journey to watch that poo and they just walk off without even acknowledging us fans. That’s what’s really annoyed me

Totally agree not acknowledging us fans is criminal most there last night would of been at work early on Weds and back in Thusday and for what,to see that performance again, fans so far this season have been brilliant home and away and deserve at least a little respect.

Just to clarify I didn’t want Curtis to stay at Derby right from the start of this season.

Saw the goals against on SSN what a joke.

Yes i see your point but we havent got a pot to hiss in just shows how far we have fallen, its less than 2 years since we were in the play off final for gods sake

    Agreed.

Do you think Curtis Davies will get a Television career now he’s too slow to play at Derby

I think he would but remember both Curtis and jaghelka are playing for peanuts and he may ultimately end up being our manager if we do go down as i cant see Rooney wanting to go to Fleetwood on a cold Tuesday night in January

In these days of VAR and 4th officials, maybe it's time to take timekeeping out of the officials hands?

5 minutes of time added on Saturday, one minute of play, 3 minutes while a Blackburn player received treatment, then another minute of play before the ref blew the whistle.

Even if we let the referee decide how much time to add, and technology then took over and decided on the final whistle would be an improvement.

Its called gamesmanship perhaps we need to learn it a bit more we would of certainly not lost at Peterborough

As for the time its already pretty much out of the hands of the Referee thats why the forth official holds the board up at each end of the half although that is supposed to be the minimum extra time allowed and the referee is supposed to add on even extra time for the above reasons within that (time wasting, injury etc) never happens though

When we’re thinking about points deductions, we’re thinking optimistically that 12pts is recoverable. But 21pts, no chance. Statistically 12pts has never been done before, we’d be making history just to overturn that deficit, so there’s no chance we could do 21pts.

So I just assumed that getting an extra 21pts on top of a what we need for safety must be something akin to automatic promotion form. Like the gulf between relegation and promotion must be something like 20pts right?

So I took a look at last seasons table. We survived by a point on 44pts. And extra 21pts would have put us on 65pts, just ahead of Boro in 10th.

the season prior was a bit more high scoring.  The safety mark was 48 (Barnsley had 49, but I think it’s safe to assume that if we’re on at least mid table form, then our goal difference should be better than everyone else in the relegation zone). Another 21pts would take us to 69pts which would be 8th, just above Millwall.

so it’s not that ridiculous to think, if we keep doing what we’re doing, we could be on form for a 10th to 8th place finish. Especially as we’re currently playing without a bunch of our best players (CKR, Bielik) so you’d hope we’d have better form throughout the season, not worse.

Yes without doubt its doable although we are going to have to play top 6 type football utill then end of the season,if we do get more points deducted ie 9 more will that knock the players confidence even further and accept the inevitable and more importantly the free signings we got only have a 6 month contract there is no guarantee the likes of Ravel Morrison will sign on for a further 6 months.

There is still a lot of if buts and maybes but the season is still young and when there is still hope there is a chance and if we do  achieve the impossible and stay in this division you would have to say Rooney would be right up there for manager of the season

156k a year isn’t a lot of money when it’s taxed at 40% and you can only earn it for 6/7 years!!!

Once you have a mortgage that needs to be paid off in ten years not 25 it’s quite a chunk of money gone. Any kind of pay cut and you’ll feel the pinch the same as the next man…sometimes worse….

yes agreed but the cut is to 3 Grand the players were talking about was on 4.5k before and also the non contract players we signed have mostly had a good career already.Dont forget we are only talking about Basic salary here there could well be win bonuses, appearance money, sponsorship money etc etc etc

At the end of the day the club is in a dire situation but if the players have to take a little hit for a short period of time so be it,its the mascots cleaners, programme sellers, club shop and other staff who like you say have mortgages to pay who will ultimately get shafted.

I’m sorry but this type of comment always rankles with me.

It’s based on the assumption that a) every footballer is super rich and b) that they have similar or comparable outgoings as you or I….

Based on the UK average the average wage is £30,000 (nett £1850 a month). The average mortgage repayment is £750 a month. Meaning the average persons mortgage is approx 40% of his wage….

What have you done with the extra money you’ve been paid since the start of your working life? Pay rises, bonuses etc?

I assume like me you didn’t manage to save much of it and made a choice to enjoy lifestyle improvements….new clothes, a nicer car, a bigger house, weddings, start a family? So it’s fair to say most ‘cut their cloth’ accordingly?

    That leaves a footballer earning £10,000 a week with a mortgage of somewhere between £15-£20,000 a month……

Oh I forgot…..you and I will have most likely taken out their mortgage in our mid twenties and expected to pay it off sometime between 50 and 60 ready for a nice retirement, maybe over a period of 25 years? That gives your average footballer a 10 year window of earning opportunity before he’s cast adrift at 34/35 and someone makes a decision to retire him!!! I don’t know the math involved in that but assuming the repayments on a mortgage of that size paid over 10 years is considerably more than when paid over 25 years?

In short, not many footballers are paying off a mortgage of £750 a month whilst driving a 5 year old VW Passat. Their outgoings will be very much in line with their earnings and their retirement age!

Im not saying there should be an outpouring of sympathy compared with staff that will inevitably lose their jobs but let’s be realistic at least.

Behave yourself 3 grand a week is still 156K a year, more than me, you and 99% of people on this forum could even dream of earning,i do feel for the younger academy players who like you say as not had time to build a nest egg, dont get me wrong when you earn more you then run your life spending wise but the same way as you have to do once you have to cut the cloth accordingly.

? Which is of course 2/3rds of £4.5k.

Obviously not the players fault were in such a mess however it must be heart breaking for them surviving on 3 grand a week how will they make ends meet,i said on a post yesterday this would happen were wages were not paid properly and you think these same players will give a damm on the field, lets hope the administrators pull a rabbit out of the hat and keep us out of liquidation not sure if i am that hopeful to be honest, who is going to pump millions in to a league 1 side with massive debts that dont own there own ground it still belongs in theory to Mel.

It's a worry for sure but the two things I'd say to that are.

You can make the argument that we've got several players with personal attachment to the club having come throught he academy and/or model pros (i.e. Davies) that might be willing to weather the storm for a little bit.

There is an incentive for all players to keep playing till January to secure a better contract elsewhere.

Pretty much what i was saying in a roundabout way,Curtis Davies is a Derby legend and i can see him becoming our manager one day as well, as for the players if wages do become an issue even if they have come through our academy you will not see them for dust once clubs come a knocking in January

Just been watching Sky sports news and what hit me was the irony of 2 topics of their program this morning.

First they were waxing lyrical over 'Liverpool's' future superstar wonder kid, Kaide Gordon and within minutes were discussing the demise of our club. They didn't mention at all the fact that Liverpool virtually 'stole' him from us.

How unfair is the system whereby a club has invested heavily in its academy, loses a player worth 10s of millions for a pittance. Nevermind the rights or wrongs of how Derby have got in this mess with overspending elsewhere, we have also spent money in the right place to develop a talent worth tens of millions of pounds, but without getting the reward.

No offense to Kaide or to Liam Delap, but if they had had the interests of the club at heart, like Jude Bellingham at Birmingham, we would be a lot better off. Jude Bellingham waited until his 17th birthday before signing professionally for the Blues, who then immediately sold him to Dortmund for £25M. You can't blame our youngsters because they may have picked up a career ending injury before their 17th, but you can blame the football system which allows this to happen.

So because of the different attitudes of three 16 year olds, Blues are plus £25M and Derby plus £2M when it should be plus £50M.

Derby's academy should have been able to clear our debts, but the system has prevented it.

Totally agree with you and come January what will happen to our young players that have broken in to the first team, sold for peanuts to keep us afloat,if its true we owe at least 28m to the tax man were in serious trouble

I just want to say that I am a realist and I know the likelihood involved, but if we're admitting defeat and saying relegation is a certainty only 8 games into the season, we might as well fold the club now

You've got to believe it can be done. A bit of wild hope never hurt anyone. If we've got this defeatist attitude already, don't be surprised to get tonked every game now until the end of the season. How can the players have any belief if we as the fans don't?

Call me an idiot if you like but come on. Let's give it a try, no?

One thing you seem to be forgetting once administrators are involved there is no guarantee full wages will be paid to the players employers of any firm are the last in the pecking order,Tax and Vat man first followed by the administrators themselves will make sure they get paid, then the debtors then if your lucky the staff.

Wont be long before the toys are out the pram and players not giving a dam

I'm not sure what you are arguing against here most of the post is saying we will be down with anything like a substantial penalty. Is it the off the cuff comment about being capable of 56 points all things being equal ? Because I think with everyone back fit, the style of play becoming more cohesive and a transfer window where we could actually operate that wouldn't be that far fetched.

No i think its doable even if we get a 9 point penalty we should still be good enough to get say 55/56 points this season although Sheff Wed did not manage it with 6 point deduction, agree with the previous comment though we dont and dont look like scoring more than one goal a game at best.To be honest we should of excepted our punishment weeks ago so the embargo would of been lifted which would of given Rooney a little bit more wiggle room in terms of new players

  14. Yes WBA and Fulham are probably the toughest away games this season as a previous  member stated anything from this game would be a absolute bonus,Keeping in this league will be a massive achievement to be honest even more so if we get whats likely to be points deductions. Not giving up hope though as there are no world beaters in the league,i thought Swansea and Florist would be top six and there both below us

Seems to have fallen off the planet with no mention (unless I've missed it).

I think he should be on the underrated list in that other topic. OK, he's been guilt at times of losing concentration and costing us a goal. Nevertheless, he's been a great servant of the club over his two spells. If, as seems to be the case, his contract is not being renewed, the club should - at the very least - thank him for his service and wish him well for the future.

(Q: is he on any of the recent training photos?)

Agree he should be thanked but thank the lord he is not in the picture everytime he went near the ball i had palpitations, dodged a bullet for sure

As the game went on he really started to get involved, well done Lad!

Yes agreed and second half he got more involved by getting more forward, one thing he does need to improve on is his final pass once he as got in that great position mind you the same can be said for all our full backs at the club

Maybe a start would be dropping our ticket prices? Unsure how they can justify some of the pricing considering the state of the club.

Agreed but this needs to be sorted across all football,i ended up going to see the Staggs on Saturday even that was £23.00 wasnt worth 23 bob

    We wont sign anyone.

If Mel has the balls to sit in a meeting and tell the attendees with a straight face that he is disappointed that managers chose to ask for new signings rather than play more kids, I honestly dont think he will mind the flack he will get from not signing anyone.

When he said he will join in with any Mel Out chants, to me says a bit of him actually enjoys it.

Yes totally agree i think Mel as thrown the towel in, we are nailed on to be relegated without at least a couple of freebie signings,we havent even got a first choice centre back for crying out loud,Mel deserves everything he gets if he lets this club go down, lets see how much were worth sat in Mid table in league one with 12000 fans spread out in the stadium .

    Absolute disgrace

I'm happy that I'm not tempted to bet against us. Anything above 3 to 1 and I'd have considered it.

Let's hope we can surprise a lot of people. We have two internationals to come back in over the season in Knight and Bielik. Will Ebosele be our Traore? Will Sibley dance his way through opposition defences?

Everyone starts level (unless we also get a points deduction!!!). It will be a tough ask but I really want the squad to be able to step up and all be heroes and give us all something to smile about.

    Come on you Rams!

6 painter then already on Saturday

Not sure how Morris can walk as he can't just find some random person in the Eagle Centre and say here you go mate you're in charge of the club now?

The best solution IMHO which I'll probably get shot down for is that Morris realises that he needs unfortunately to spend more of his wonga to make the club a decent going concern for someone to want to come and take it off his hands.

At the moment he's damaging any prospect of that happening and more importantly for the fans he's intrinsically damaging the club as well.

No i think you are right,Morris as not got a cat in hells chance of selling the club in the state were in,we still have to provide our accounts yet to the EFL that still might mean points deductions no one knows yet whats going on and were two weeks away from the new season

I have supported this club the best part of fifty years not only are we in utter shambles we are becoming an embarrassment, never have i not looked forward to a new season other than this one,for me were nailed on relegation

As for Rooney he can only work with the tools he as,if he got any other offer elsewhere i suspect he be gone in a flash
