  1. Give Burton there dues they deserved the point to be fair.

However its another game that as got away from us when three points were there for the taking,Dobbin clean through on goal and never looked like scoring springs to mind, think we need NML and Barks on the flanks and give him a rest

6 points from our next 2 home games is a bare minimum for me,no more hard look we played well and should of done better remarks are starting to be a bit cringe worthy, but we are were we are and still unbeaten for a good while we just need to take a bit more care in front of goal

Fwiw, I think Curtains has a point. After going down to 10 men our tactics were as bad as our ball control. No one in our side tried to grab hold of the game, we just kept giving them cheap possession by either hoofing it, or losing control of relatively simple passes. Poor substitutions too. We got everything we deserved on that second half performance.

Yes up to the penalty we were more than comfortable, poor play and hopeless balls down the line to no one killed us,we were 3 minutes in to injury time when Liam Thomson got fouled and the Ref brought it back and what did we do knock a long ball down the channel to no one again, unbelievable poor ball management.

Torquay are dreaming of a big pay-day to come at PP. They could arrive to find only one stand open , like the Grimsby game.We only sold half our away allocation and if it it on telly again , who’s going to want to get out of their armchairs on a cold night to see Torquay?

Yes my thoughts also interviewing there player who scored at the end thought it would be 20K-maybe 30k,not a chance it will be close to 15k at best thats even if there is a price reduction

That bit is the key. If we play with purpose, pace and aggression then we can beat anyone. If we amble around, pressing without intent to tackle and are static off the ball, then we will get beat.

Tactics, again, are secondary to this. Mentality and application are the first things that need to be right in this league.

Think you are right it may look like a 3 point shoe in game but look at performances eleswere away have been awful at times .

My concern tonight is i think PW we will go back to a back three and move Corey Smith in to midfield which for me would be a negative step given our performance Saturday

I'd have rather seen Sibley start the game than Dobbin, who flatters to deceive and is much less of a team player!

The problem we have RoyMac5 is you can say the same about Sibley he as flattered to deceive for to long now and we have had numerous managers in charge and everyone as refrained from selecting him for any period of time

  6. Decided to go at the very last minute due to work commitments so sat with the Mansfield fans being a Mansfield lad myself

Thought Mansfield deserved there win to be fair second half especially,i think the corner count must of been around 15-1 at least ver the game

PW allured to it in his interview that we got bullied off the ball and as a better picture of what our squad really looks like away from our regular starting 11,its easy to say were not bothered about the Pizza Cup when you loose but it still goes down as a full competitive game and the fringe players did themselves no favors with that performance

On to Port Vale were 3 points is a must to keep pace with the top 6,COYR

Win and we're in the knockout stages. Not sure if there's seeding or anything, but suspect we'd also be guaranteed first place?

Means we can rest as many as we want against Man City U21 (as long as we avoid the fine) and give the old boys a night off.

I'd be tempted to give Collins 45 minutes tonight- no sense tiring him out, but another goal on the road would help maintain his confidence.

I think the rules are you have to play at least 5 players from your previous league game so there will be changes,Sibley,Stearman,Loach,Thompson plus the young lad who came on for Dobbin on Saturday i think will start

A win should be enough to win the mini league and those teams top of each league get a home draw in the 1st knock out stage

Basically he appeared not to know and was vague about it. But he said it in such a way that made me think he was suggesting we have a 35 year old who doesn't want to work as hard as everyone is being asked to

Yes that is how i saw this as well, maybe told to go away and work on personal fitness before being considered in the team, was very strange how PW came out and made out he new nothing then quickly had a excuse,if your manager you know every thing about your squad down to what they had for breakfast so not buying the fact he knew nothing

  9. Thought i would sleep on it before commenting on another inept performance

LR is going to have to switch himself on and quick there are already rumblings on this forum for him to go and i can see why,its glaringly obvious his tactics in this league aint going to cut it again last night we got caught out messing around at the back which led to a goal.

Lets be having it right we have not played any of the so called better teams yet away apart from maybe Charlton and we have yet to register a goal this is not acceptable at any level, things have to change and quick

For me we either play the young lad at right back and move Knight into midfield or play the central defenders and have five across the middle which would also help Collins out having some one at the side of him

Not yet pressed the panic button but two or three more of these performances in the next few games might be the end of LR,we were fortunate to turn the Peterborough game around in the last couple of minutes because if we hadnt we would be overtiring above the bottom 4,Yes you can argue we are still in sight of the play off positions but lets not kid ourselves with that one, performances have been pretty average even when we scrapped wins at home.

The only other observation you could possibly make is since the transfer window closed we have played two and lost them both which may seem some players have took there foot of the pedal, this however is were LR needs to step up to the plate and stop being nicey nicey

I found rosies post match interview quite alarming, his blinkered insistence that his way is the right way is worrying, its not worked for the last two seasons, why does he think its going to work now.we are too easy to play against, and unless he can find a way of scoring  whilst we are on top a series plan b is needed

Totally agree while we keep playing tippy tappy football across the back four then back to our goalie, our opponents then have ample time to reshape in to two banks of four and ask us to break them down, very evident last night you can have 80% of the game and achieve nothing in fact they could of even nicked it last night.

LR needs to be looking at a long quick ball from time to time or a long throw out by our keeper to Collins to get him involved more we have plenty of young runners around him, worked a treat when Chris Martin held it up.

Decent start to new season but we need to see improvement without disrespect we need to be beating teams like STFC at a cantor

You are right, what I said was nonsense.

I actually meant, we will not be competing for top 6, currently, imo.

Yes as it stands i think you are correct,we are in for a rude awakening if anyone thinks this is not going to be tough,we have no proper RB not convinced on what i have seen so for in the GK and to get out of this league you need a 20+ goalscorer which we have not got.

Yes there is the loan market and hopefully we will be active in that,i am a big believer in the fact you cant get promoted in the first dozen games but you can certainly lose it in the first twelve so we need to make at least a decent start around 15-18 points would be a good effort

Usual caveats about preseason/heat etc, but the thing I found most worrying last night is that we seemed to have no answer to them stopping us playing out from the back.  It's not a case of our midfielders passing sideways/backwards because they're lazy or scared, it's because Stevenage were blocking off their forward passing options.  A certain amount of that is definitely down to preseason+heat - you need players busting a gut to get into space to receive the ball, and the conditions were definitely not ideal for that.  Likewise when we did manage to break the lines, the player often found themselves isolated and ended up going backwards anyway, but players won't be sprinting up to support and sprinting back afterwards as much in a game like last night.

The thing I find most interesting is the way we've used James Collins.  He's barely touched the ball in the 2 games I've seen this week - he's played much further forward than Plange and CKR have previously, basically like a proper striker rather than dropping off to link the play.  Which means we've basically been playing with 10 men for large parts of the game.  If you want to play possession football, you can't afford to be a man down like that.  But we also haven't (as far as I can remember anyway) gone direct to him even once.  When we have been more direct, it's been balls over the top for wingers to run onto.  If the opposition are doing a high-press, then one of the ways to beat it is to go direct to a striker and play from there - at the very least it will force the opposition to sit back a bit more because they have to be wary of a longer ball - but we haven't even tried that.  It seems to be like we're not playing to his strengths, and his strengths don't seem to suit the way we want to play.  Obviously early days etc though.  (And I'm not saying play direct all the time, just mix it up occasionally so you don't become predictable.)

It could also be the case that Rosenior is deliberately telling our players to not go direct in preseason, to force us to get used to moving the ball under pressure, and he's going to mix it up a bit more when the real games start.  And if that's the case them fine.

Spot on statement looks like we have learnt nothing from last season with our tippy tappy football including goal kicks, more and more teams will press us this season than any other and unless we get a grip and have a plan B we will see more results similar to last night

In Lampard's preseason, we beat both Southampton and Wolves and played really well. Then, in the first game against Reading, we were utterly dreadful but fluked a win. We then got completely outclassed and mullered by Leeds at home. It took quite a few games to settle down iirc.

That's why you can't draw too many conclusions from tonight, except that whatever system we play, we have to pass the ball better and create more chances.

Yes very very true in what you say and although these are friendly games and dont read to much in to them blah blah blah i think LR hit it on the head last night by saying the way Stevenage played are the sort of games we will expect to see this coming season and we need to be switched on better, these sides are not going to role over

    Goalkeepers are: Roberts, Evans, JThompson

20 outfielders in the first team and U23 squads to choose from(some are 2nd year scholars), 7 other 2nd year scholars in the U18 squad, and a number of first year scholars (yet to be officially announced)

Wow thats it then with that available lot we look a shoe-in to win the league

I just think he came back after his hols to be told by the administrators that he couldn't sign any players as we're still in administration and all his plans and hard work talking to players over the summer were blown away in that moment.

He probably decided there and then he didn't need another season of that sort of s*** and quit on the spot.

I don't blame him and all this talk of Dyche and tried and trusted League One managers is all just the same. Who is going to come here under the circumstances?

Some of you need a reality check.

All you say may well turn out to be true, however for me something as happened in the background that WR does not like, one minute we have a potential new owner who buys the ground and things look like we may be turning a corner then within hours WR resigns
