Ward is a more promising sign that players might actually want to come here. It’s still only a player turning down league one offers though - we had players turning down Championship clubs for Rosenior. Let’s see what the rest of the window brings.

Heard this one a while back. Solid signing as back up to Wildsmith. Has some League One experience, and perhaps a slight upgrade on McGee.

So much talent in the side. Kane the best number 9 in the world for me. Saka and Bellingham edging towards being world class.

A massive team is not necessarily expensive. Otherwise most teams wouldn’t have more than 18 players, which is clearly not the case. And I don’t mean a massive Forest Esque squad anyway, clearly that’s stupid, I just mean a regular sized squad bigger than the paper thin one we had last year.
Nobody is saying spend loads of money on backup players. But they do need to be there. Otherwise when injuries hit  (and they will), we’ll be ducked. The U21 team doesn’t exist. 
Relative to the rest of the league, we’re not poor. We’re not financially struggling to compete.

I’ll accept 2nd, but there’s no excuses this time around.

22 isn’t really enough either. I generally say 25 is the ideal squad amount. Any major injuries and you’re ducked with only 22 players. With only 20 you’re ducked anyway, that’s ridiculously thin.
We can’t rely on the academy as things stand, it’s a mess. There’s no quality coming through any time soon. The new academy manager will be sorting that out, but it takes time. I’d be surprised if anyone comes through for the next 3 years. 

He previously admitted he got that wrong though, which I was relieved to hear. Thought he was learning from his mistakes.
We’re no longer under such strong restrictions, I refuse to believe that Oxford can afford a full squad but we can’t.

This point is a real concern. Our squad was too small last season and he seems to want it to be smaller.
