There's intelligent investing and there's Blackman-Butterfield investing, he didn't invest in the correct scouting/football managers

He did back the manager. How many times have people critised the owner for not backing the manager? Plenty. And I don't recall the majority of fans being unhappy with the managerial appointments, just the usual minority who would grumble even if Guardiola or Klopp would be appreciated.

    Mel, is that you?

No. But a lifelong fan who has been taken aback by the far ranging hatred towards someone who has invested significantly with the hope of achieving the premier goal we all desire. If I were a billionaire I wouldn't want to invest. Whatever the next person does is likely to be hated. Invest and they shouldn't have done. Don't invest, then the moaning about lack of investment will inevitabley follow.

I do love some people's attempts to give Mel leeway by saying the fans were all on board.  The fans were not told this was completely unsustainable, that administration was laying in waiting and we had ripped through ffp. In fact, Mel kept on emphasising pretty much the opposite. Even a cursory glance at the reaction to administration from those who attended the now infamous meeting would tell us all we need to know about what was told to us about the situation. It's about as pathetic an excuse as it gets and I personally don't have empathy for Mel Morris. He ran the club completely irresponsibly, has ran away now it's all gone south and left the club to pick up the mess.

Or maybe as a fan, a businessman and with the fans expectations, Mel put his own money in to the club to invest with a view to getting the club promoted along with shrewd business tactics. The EFL then decide to change and backdate the rules and therefore force the club from a compliant FFP position into a potentially non compliant position followed by vitriol and hatred shown by the fans towards Mel. I can't say I blame him putting the club into admin with the way a lot of the Derby fans behave.

Now if John Percy is to be believed, the EFL are dragging out the appeal hearing for the administration so that any sale cannot be concluded forcing the administrators to retract the appeal, accept the additional points deduction to clear up the situation as soon as possible and conclude the sale.

    Wonderful.

  4. I'd like us to try and use a 442 like we did against Shef Wed with Waghorn and CKR up front. Created opportunities and scored. With Davies and Jags at the back, surely we have to try it at some point? But probably not as WR wants to play out from the back and stick with 4231.

  5. I really can't be arsed to trawl through all the bile and vitriol by posters who are continually posting contradictory posts (such as Mel / the club should have never said anything during the failed takeovers. Now that we are keeping that matter private it's all we need to know what's happening. FFS!)

So can anyone please provide a balanced summary of where we are at if indeed any communication has been allowed?

To the mods / admin, I'd like to say thank you to you for having the stamina to put up with all this crap from people who aren't happy unless they are inventing a crisis and then moaning about it, and for keeping some semblance of balance and sensibility about the forum. Balance and sensibility which are sadly lacking from a lot of people.

The meetings are usually quite respectful, can’t see this being any different.

Everyone is frustrated by the current situation, but Mel has a row of buttons which operate the trapdoors under each of our chairs if we get irate.

Nobody has been sent down it yet to know where we end up or if we even live to tell the tale.

I don't know who will be on the invite list / agree to participate. But whoever is selected to go, rather than some of the more negative members, perhaps some of the more balanced and pragmatic members? Also, perhaps it's worth opening a thread to get members feedback / questions to submit and select the more appropriate queries?

It will not be made law anymore meaning clubs can not force anyone to wear a mask if they dont want.

I think there is something in the rules / guidance that allows businesses to have additional precautions within their business. For example, I believe Ryanair will still require passengers to wear face masks on their flights even after 19th July.

  8. I assume with the recent government announcement that crowds will be allowed without any legal restrictions on attendance or distancing? However, I believe there is a caveat that some businesses may wish should have their own rules about using face coverings / social distancing. I would like to think the football league would be in dialogue with the clubs and an announcement made to clarify?

The transfer embargo is the best thing to happen to us. Its an absolute blessing in that we have proved previously we cannot get expensive transfers right. So much money wasted on ridiculous transfer fees and wages with too many examples to list. Im happy to go after CKR type signings of no fee, a fair wage together with ability and great attitude. Bring it on. Its going to be the making of us.

Erm, won't that potentially lead to desperate last minute signings that others don't want on inflated wages as is often the case with late transfer window signings?

We haven’t done anything unlawful which is a large part of why we are so miffed

I wasn't referring to us. I was referring to the EFL's action of the embargo when we and other clubs have been given a legal right to defer submitting the accounts.

well our last 2 years havent been submitted due to the ongoing EFL case, but the latest ones were given the government extended period to be submitted which is what resulted in the soft embargo as the EFL didnt approve clubs to use the government extended deadline....although as per Kieran Maguire yesterday, the EFL themselves actually used the extended deadline.

    So:

2016 - Need resubmitting as per IDC

2017 - Need resubmitting as per IDC

2018 - Need resubmitting as per IDC

    2019 - Never been submitted

    2020 - Never been submitted

Is that even legal (the EFL penalising clubs who are acting lawfully)?

I guess we will get the report within the next week which takes us to 9th July. The EFL (and ourselves) then have 14 days to appeal the decision which takes us to 23rd July. We don't have to publish our new accounts until the 18th August.

I would say should we be within P&S that we would put in our accounts almost immediately after the EFL take a decision on whether to appeal the £100k fine. I think that would get the transfer embargo off our back.

Nevertheless, I would also advise if we are going to fall foul that we will wait until the very last day to put in our accounts, at least until after the first game or two have been played. It would mean that we keep our Championship position, but will have had to battle with a transfer embargo on top of having next to no players whatsoever. It would just mean that Mel won't lose £10m in income for this next season. It would definitely mean almost certain relegation, but Mel will be hoping to be long gone by then.

Modern day football, eh? Don't you just love it!

So we have option a) hang on to our accounts and not get relegated this season, but stay under a transfer embargo and option b) submit accounts now, have the embargo lifted and sign players, but potentially get relegated.

According to the guys on here in the know about accounts plus Swiss Ramble and even Maguire think we will be within P&S limits even reverting back to the straight line method. So nothing to fret about ?

I'm not 100% up to speed with the current situation. I'm kind of loosing interest in football in general. But hypothetically, if our amortisation is changed to straight line and we are still within P&S limits, does the £100k fine still stand?

Imagine Becks sitting in the exec seats up in the West Stand, the whole ground rising in appreciation, "David Beckham's Black and White Army" ringing round the stadium......then it dies down, goes quiet, and a lone voice from the back of the South Stand gives it, "Posh Spice, takes it up the.........."

    Route 66 ? ?

We're doin' great, we really ar'. They've never 'ad such big crowds since I was put in charge...etc

Interesting that this case has again gone through the EFL's own regulatory systems rather than the standard employment tribunal that serves the rest of us mere mortals.

It's like they are a breed apart from the law that governs the rest of us.

I have had no sympathy for Keogh since he refused to accept a reduction in wages, or at least negotiate something with the club. I still think he let his club down that day by not behaving as a captain should and taking some responsibility for the safety of the younger players and himself. Surely the £24,000 per week he was getting paid conveyed some expectation of maturity with it?

So, he's got his full wages plus whatever he's been paid by MK Dobs and Huddersfield since. I hope it makes him happy. Not.

Interesting point about the EFL system versus employment law. Are footballers not subject to normal employment law?

That said, having to deal with people & employment law, it very much favours the employee such that it is very difficult to terminate an employees contract without having to go through a lot of months worth of paperwork & formal meetings / discussions.
