I wonder if a right back wont/cant be signed until the Byrne issue is resolved

I've had a crazy thought about a potential for the right back position and it's probably not one of my better ideas. But what about Liam Thompson for the full back slot? He's tenacious, gets a tackle in, can move with the ball and can pass. Bombing forward and crossing isn't his usual role, but I think he may have the attributes to potentially fill that role?

    Thoughts?

Conversely if we win our first 4 games then?

Find the original comment quite weird personally as might as well tell the mods on here to shutdown the matchday threads until the 15th league game as any opinion you do have will be invalid upto that point.

The totally new squad lost the third preseason game on the hottest day on record. Yep great foundation to build an opinion on.

I will be keeping an open mind about things before I start calling for heads.

It feels like there is a suggestion within this question that I and others, suspected this would happen yet kept quiet.

I can hand on heart say that was never the case.

Now I’m fully aware that history will not look kindly on some of my posts, however I personally do not regret a single word I wrote at the time as that is what I truly believed. Let’s also not rewrite history here, you will have seen the memes, not created by myself, Mel Morris was a popular figure not so long ago.

Pumped a lot of money into this club, play off campaigns, took us to the brink of the Premier League. Those raising questions were largely in the minority.

Covid happened, you can argue how severe these impact was, however it wasn’t just financial, lost a close friend, had his own health concerns, throw in the EFL retrospectively looking to change the rules and applying punishment, not sure anyone could have foreseen any of this.

Do I know why he put us into administration? No I do not, but I believe that even in his wildest dreams the long term goal wasn’t to burn a load of cash then ride off into the sunset.

I sold advertising space on the forum to the club, this was handled by the marketing team led by Faye Nixon who was my primary contact at the time.

At no point was there any interference in my views, content on the forum or whatever accusations have been thrown out there by fans believe you would be banned for posting anything anti Mel, not that they were incapable of sticking to the forum guidelines we have in place.

If this comes across as defensive, it’s because it is, as I say it does feel there is a suggestion inside this that we’ve been silenced somehow and not been honest, which does sting a little I have to say.

Now if that suggestion wasn’t intended, I have to say it’s a bit of a daft question.

You have summarised my thoughts on the matter also. I rarely say as much on here as there is so much negativity towards Mel that it's just not worth the agro.

To throw into the ring the time wasters that were allegedly the people who were going to take the club forward. Even post Mel this has happened again.

  4. The way he left Derby was odd. All the time he had shown loyalty and when it was getting close to a takeover and some stability, out of the blue he quits.

I had heard a rumour that Mr Clowes and Mr Morris had worked together on the takeover and that is why Wayne left. But like I said, that is rumour.

Good luck to him and good luck to Liam here at DCFC!

    And Boro and WW ?

As much as I dislike the owners of the clubs, I agree with Angie. It's not something I'd even wish on forest or their fans. No club should be dragged what we have been through with the threat of liquidation very real.

I do hope they've ran this story as a 'we've heard article .  Front page normally means first hand account .  That would be disappointing in the extreme as the papers knew before his players.

I suspect you are right. I just find it a bit off. He's stuck through thick and thin with us, had the opportunity to go to Everton and another championship club and the day we get some good news he's jacked it in.

I think what you have said has played on his mind and I suspect Colleen has been in his ear quite a bit on holiday and made his decision. He's probably had a discussion with rosenior to say he's leaving and it's highly likely he'll get the job at Derby and that's why he didn't go to Blackpool.

Looks like I was itk after all ?

  7. To add to b4's comments, as a lifelong Derby fan, please don't walk away yet. You have galvanised a squad, club and city in desperate circumstances. Please wait until the new owners are appointed, have the discussion around aspirations and then make a final decision.

Please stay and finish the job you started.

I'm sorry but if you thought Rooney's heart wasn't in it, I have to disagree.

I understand that people are disappointed that he's left now  but don't re-write history.

I think his heart was in the job for a time and the emotion that went with it. But deep down in his heart lies Everton / utd and we aren't able to compete with that. The dcfc managers job was a means to an end. I've no idea where Rooney will end up. Part of me secretly hopes the new owner will be installed and they will have a deep and meaningful conversation and shared ambition and will agree to stay.

  9. I would also add / suggest that we don't look to managers who deep down loyalties that lie elsewhere. Rooney with Everton and man utd and lampard with Chelsea. I don't think their hearts were really ever in it and dcfc manager spot was a means to an end.

Its heartbreaking as a dcfc fan when you see a modicum of success and you think that the manager can build on it to then leave.

  10. I suspect a significant part of the mess we are in is due to the number of managers we have had recently. We have had 12 managers in 10 years. Granted some were sacked, but the more 'successful' managers have moved on. I'm not a Mel hater or blamer. But think about it. Everytime a new manager comes in, the manager wants his own set up, staff and players. Each time the club has to back the manager and that costs money. When the managers of recent years have been successful, they have left - McLaren, Rowett, Lampard and now Rooney.

So the question is, how do we get the successful managers to stick with the club and drive it forward?

Edit - Further to this, please keep the thread on topic and not turn it into a Mel bashing thread!

I just think he came back after his hols to be told by the administrators that he couldn't sign any players as we're still in administration and all his plans and hard work talking to players over the summer were blown away in that moment.

He probably decided there and then he didn't need another season of that sort of s*** and quit on the spot.

I don't blame him and all this talk of Dyche and tried and trusted League One managers is all just the same. Who is going to come here under the circumstances?

Some of you need a reality check.

  12. Not wishing to put a dampener on things, I'm still holding off on my celebrations. We were led to believe that clowes was purchasing the stadium anyway to lease back to the club. And we've seen / heard noises about a deal being all but done (CK signing and exchanging contracts) and continually suffering more heart ache. I hope that this will get us over the line and we can sort Rooney and rosenior contracts out, start signing players and prepare for season start ?

Let’s see how many fans on here are still sticking up for Morris if this deal doesn’t go through …..no excuses Morris just do what is needed for the longevity of the club and sell it on mega cheap  …if you actually care you will ….

So most people think he's a see you next Tuesday, want an angry mob with torches and pitchforks to burn him at the stake, toast marshmallows off his blazing testes and then ask a favour of him. Really?
