    You are missing the point.

You stated "look closely at the rulebook to find means such as amortisation policy or selling stadiums to get more funds into the club".
This suggests you think they've done this to assist with their P&S position, which isn't the case.

Clearly I'm missing something. Why have they borrowed £120m?

Revised question. If a club has cash in the bank, under FFP can they spend it if it exceeds turnover by £39m over years?

I don't know why but you keep missing the point, the writing off of the loans does not help FFP

Profit from the sale of a stadium did help FFP (though the rules have now changed to exclude the profits from stadium sales too).

I'm not missing the point. Have the loans been put into the club to service debts, or to increase liquidity? I doubt that Stoke have £120m in the bank, so they will be servicing debt accrued due to losses.

Presumably because they want the loans repaying if there's ever the funds to do so (PL money).

If that's the case then owners wouldn't be looking so closely at the rulebook to find means such as amortisation policy or selling stadiums to get more funds into the club. It's far too easy to loan a club the money and then write it off, or recoup if successful getting to the PL. It surely can't be that simple under ffp?

    You're missing the point.

The write off of loans or conversion of loans into equity is specifically excluded from the FFP calculations.

    That's what I'm getting at.

Why, aren't other owners doing the same so they can bankroll clubs?

As I understand it, FFP is all about profit and loss not assets and liabilities. So, you could have a massive debt but, provided you are able to service it, it's OK for FFP/P&S. Even better for FFP/P&S if the lender just writes it off.

With regard to selling the stadium to yourself, I guess the big difference between us and Stoke is that either their owners are far wealthier or far more generous that Mel. By buying the stadium owners still retain some kind of asset rather than just writing off a loan but, hasn't that loophole now been closed?

I still don't get it. In my simple head, Stoke have been making a loss and have taken loans to service the accrued debt (or to put equity into the club). The loans have now been waived so wiping out their debt. If it was a simple as that to meet FFP rules, there would be plenty of clubs doing it and not having to come up with creative means to 'stay within' FFP rules.

The wealth of the owners of the (Mel vs Bet365) is irrelevant. The point still stands. Will the £120m be included in the rolling three year FFP cycle?

It doesn't break EFL rules so they are basically fine with clubs overspending  providing they have rich enough owners to keep putting in the dosh.

So much for a commitment to sustainability!

I don't get it. I'm not as close to some as to the EFL's FFP rules. But how can a club with so much debt just be allowed to write it off? If that's fine under FFP, then surely all clubs with wealthy owners will be doing it? Why go to elaborate means of selling stadiums to yourself?

Rightly or wrongly the spotlight seems to have shifted onto Quantuma. With the fans, various media outlets, MPs, social media, podcasts etc all starting to question the process, the lack of comms, the delays, the slipped deadlines, and so on I wonder if the increased potential for damage to their reputation will spur them on to get things sorted?
Or maybe it’s the prospective buyers’ fault? Maybe it’s Mel? Maybe it’s the EFL and Gibson…I just don’t know what’s happening any more, other than the fact I spend a disproportionate amount of my time refreshing this site and social media when I’m supposed to be working, parenting, partnering, eating, cleaning, sleeping, toileting

    Nope. All Keogh's fault........

Thank you. I have been on the verge of resigning as a moderator for the last couple of days. It's horrible at times.

You might just have changed my mind. ?

Please don't give up. I don't really post that much on here, mainly because of the negativity surrounding the club and the narrow minded actions and opinions of some of the fans. But the posts and work from the mods and admin are a big part of why I haven't given completely.

Keep up the good work ??

  9. I know the MP for Burton and Uttoxeter. She is writing to the sports minister (although not sure how to link FB content, so I have copied and pasted):

    "Kate Griffiths MP

I am a keen follower of Burton Albion FC but as a lover of the game I am also aware of current issues facing Derby County FC.

I know there are many fans of the Rams in the Burton and Uttoxeter constituency who, like me, are concerned for the club’s future. I will be writing to the Sports Minister and join calls of neighbouring MPs for assistance."

Yes he’s fine but not every week and who is his back up in Jag’s absence?

We’re only surmising because he might stay but others will have seen how well he’s done and will offer him more than £4.5k a week.

As I said, we might need one or two if we lose one or two.

Unfortunately that’s looking dodgy until an owner steps up.

Agreed. The £4.5k cap does limit our options somewhat. Although I'd happily earn £4.5k / week ?

Our current dire straights are largely a result of MM’s disastrous relationships with the EFL and various clubs.  If CK were to start like this, with more of the same,  we would seriously be in danger of holding the lowest point total in 4 divisions.

Anyway won’t the ‘agreed decision’ rule it out?

With the new owner in and the beginning of a new relationship, perhaps if we had a discussion with the EFL about a potential appeal, the EFL would reduce the points total to give us a fighting chance of survival without a full blown appeal hearing?

I don't see it that way. Kirchner doesn't seem to be that bothered about the points deduction or taking over a nearly  League One team .

I think he will want a clean state and a clear run at promotion next year. And blame it all on Mel. That's how I see it.

I also believe it is our side that postponed the admin appeal, possibly to allow an overall agreed deal with EFl including agreeing business plan on behalf of new owners. But we are all guessing really.

I can't imagine Kirchner wouldn't be bothered about it. Yes he said he would be in it for the long term. But given the choice between league  1 and the championship I would suggest he would prefer to remain in the championship.

  13. I wonder if Kirchner wants to conclude to purchase quickly so he can then appeal the points deductions. Let me explain. Any sale cannot realistically take place with the potential points deduction. So take the punishment for ffp, complete the sale, get out admin and have the transfer embargo lifted. We can then sign players in January and we can appeal both the 12 point deduction and the 9 point deduction under the new owner. For the 12 point deduction, the administrators seemed confident in a positive outcome. For the ffp breach, Mel seemed to think we may be able to rewrite the accounts such that we wouldn't be in breach of ffp.

The efl are cleat dragging things out and the administrators want to finish off as sooas possible. So they have removed their appeal allowing the efl to dish out their punishment, allow the sale to conclude  and the new owners appeal at their expense. That said I'm not sure if we will be able to appeal after the sale is concluded?

If we can the above makes sense to me. Thoughts?
