To be fair, going away from home to one of the highest scoring teams in the division with your 127th choice defensive set-up, no fullbacks and a combined age of nearly 70 up top and keeping a clean sheet is impressive as. Rooney looked like he belonged and played some lovely long passes and Cash is made for this level (I worry about his lack of pace, but not much he can do about that).
The gap between Didzy and the midfield was enormous, though. We're desperate for Knight back in there just for some legs. Thompson did alright, but he's not a winger. I wouldn't mind seeing him in with Bird when NML is back.

He's got a touch of the Wanchope about him. If he doesn't know what his legs are gonna do next, the opponent doesn't have a clue!
I'm not entirely sure he's even that quick, but he's so explosive and powerful it doesn't matter. Workrate alone is spectacular.

I’m really concerned for poor Wycombe. I do hope everything works out for them and they get exactly what they deserve.

Naïve but well-meaning supporters trust owners got swindled by grubby businessman who has summarily stripped the soul from the club in the chase for money. I was almost sympathetic for a second, but f*** 'em. The fans are so self-righteous and don't see the parallels. Hope they rot.

The Sturridge one wasn't our fault, iirc. He was off to Arsenal for between £8-12m but then he did his hamstring and never got his acceleration back. You could argue we managed to turn average players into good fees too, we somehow coddled Leeds into £7m for Sethlad and West Ham coughed up £5m+ for Christian Dailly who was the most average player to ever be average.

The biggest, most obvious outlier for me is just how slow our backline is. Every counter came down to us either making a perfect tackle or being left in the dust. If Cashin had legs he'd be a superstar.

Will has/had a higher ceiling than Sibs, but the things we saw as his greatest assets (vision, technique, control) never stood out for Watford or Palace, instead he's ended up as a snappy ball-winner and valued for his workrate.
I see elements of that in Sibs for sure, maybe even Knight. They've got all the right start points, a great foundation, but what do they excel at? The blame is on the club for not polishing the diamond.

Might be controversial and will attract some comeback. But his rise reminds me of a certain Will Hughes. At a young age he looked way above his peers and stood out as ready to perform at the required level much earlier than expected. As he matured/aged nothing really improved.
I know there will be ones of you who will say that Will went onto a premier side, but what is he actually achieving?
It was not so long ago that a few bottom premier sides were looking at Sibley and he could have gone the same way.

If the idea was that we needed him off the wage bill to be able to afford to bring players in but then couldn't find anyone to bring in, then bring him back immediately. Play him in the middle of a back three, bringing the ball out Libero-style and creating play from the back without needing Bird to sit so deep.
Huge fan of his that I am, I still reckon we'd be better off signing a pair of good wingbacks for his fairly massive wages instead though

4-2-3-1 is really the formation to get the best out of Sibs. The only issue is that Didzy is the player in his way, and is probably the player Sibs **could** be if he realises his potential. I really don't see a future for him as a wide player because his strength is drifting around and picking up awkward positions.

I get that Bird isn't playing on the front foot enough, but who has he got infront of him to pass to? Last night, Osula was marked by 3 Cb's, Sibs (first half) was dropping deeper but ended up stuck in the midfield bog, and the other 8 players were behind him. When we're at home and the opposition are just trying to stop us playing, where is the logic in such a defensive lineup?

Same boat here as everyone else. Hadn't heard of him, was expecting a first choice in as well, but more than happy with every aspect of his game so far. He's the first keeper in ages that hasn't given me a mild heart attack when he comes for crosses. Now he's distributing quickly and not having to faff about receiving goal kicks he looks infinitely more comfortable too. Much rather him than an aging journeyman or loan kid.
