What he actually said was "I want to buy a football club ON A WEDNESDAY..."

You got that right. His best position at the moment is on the bench, or even better sat at home.

Incidentally, maybe Sibley hasn't produced of his best in the milliseconds he is given because he too is not in his best position, but stuck out on the wing.

There is a hint of holding Sibley to different standards in all this, ie 'I think you can be brilliant so I'm not going to pick you until you play brilliantly all the time'. I think if you do this you can easily end up with a resentful player. A sub-standard Sibley would probably still contribute more than Waghorn and maybe it's a lack of confidence caused by not being picked which is causing the problem in the first place.

So why not just have a word with him in private, given he has unfettered access? Why not qualify his comment by making it clear that it's not just SIbley under-performing. Why not give Sibley the run of games the likes of Waghon have been afforded to see if with games he does 'do better'?  It's the inconsistency and lack of loyalty that has annoyed people.
Given Wazza is meant to have gleaned some lessons from his time under Ferguson, you'd think he'd have learned that you defend your players as individuals to the hilt in public and if they need the hairdryer treatment, it's done in private. Publicly shaming your players, even when you're 100% correct, is the fastest way to lose a dressing room and frankly, it just smacks of desperation.

OI! Leave Waghorn out of this - we ar talking about players who can play and trouble the opposition.

One of Cocu's few positives when he was here was that he definitely improved the academy players. I don't think it's a coincidence that since he's left , Sibley and Bird have struggled. You could say Knight's form has possibly slipped a bit recently. Having said that, I don't know how Waghorn is starting over Sibley. Waghorn's offered almost nothing in recent weeks apart from the occasional set piece.

He does dive into challenges, and he is over eager. But you know what? He actually has attacking instincts, he wants to go forward. He wants to score goals. That is *exactly* the kind of player we need in the team right now. I don't care if he isn't perfectly disciplined defensively.

If we were any other team, off the back of that Millwall hat-trick I'd have said put him in as #10 and build the team around him.
But this is Derby. So like we did with Will Hughes he needs converting to a defensive midfielder. In fact I'd put him in at DM alongside Louie Watson - tell them both to sit and hold and try and get some clean sheets. I reckon that should give them both the right message and @RamNut can stop putting his childish "forward" arrows in front of players on his team sheets.
These lads can save their "creativity" for when they get a move. Just like Will did.

It is interesting that we only really threatened Forest for the last 10 minutes or so, i.e. after Sibley had come on, and, curiously, after Waghorn had gone off. One wonders if we had started the match the way we finished it what scoreline we could have achieved? For me, there has been a lot of talk about there not being room in this team for Sibley. Well actually, there is. It is the place occupied by Waghorn. ? And no, we shouldn't be keeping Waggy in for his free kicks, because they have been poor for several matches. And his last corner hit the side netting at a height of about 2 feet. Time to make way for the Sibbers!

Just pointing out how bonkers it is to try and put Sibley down by comparing him with 1 of the top players in world football.

To answer your question, 'People need to tell me who he is better than in the present team and who he replaces and in what position.'
Who he is better than is all down to people's opinions. I personally think he is a more talented footballer than Waghorn has displayed in recent times but due to our lack of goals and the importance set pieces now have for us, Waghorn is needed because he's probably the best set piece taker we have. And now we've moved to 4-4-2 I think the only two positions he could really fill are Waghorn's right hand wing spot or alongside CKR. He doesn't offer enough defensively for a 2 man central midfield so unless Rooney decides to revert to 3 in the middle I think that spot isn't viable.
In senior Championship appearances Sibley has 5 goals in 28 games and that includes 14 of which were from the bench. Waghorn, Lawrence and Jozwiak have got 3 in 57 between them this season (12 of them were off the bench). I don't think it's completely unreasonable that so many of us Derby fans are wanting and hoping Sibley gets more of a chance when our current creative and attacking players have been so poor this season.

I managed to read it in just over 2 days over the Christmas week - yes, I know, its a bit “Johnny come lately”!
I actually bought a copy for my son. My wife and I had gone through one of those “what do you want for Christmas?” - “Dunno” - “What shall we get him?” - “Dunno” scenarios when I came across Pride, so I bought it, only for my wife to say “Look what I’ve got him”! ?.
So I quietly relegated it to birthday gift in March. Then I discovered that he’d bought the book for my Chrissy pressie - what a great son! He also dropped hints at his disappointment that the book wasn’t in his Christmas stocking! Ho hum!
It’s a great read, flows really well and generates a tremendous feeling of all of us being in this together, (unlike the Tory version of the phrase where we most definitely aren’t).
Some people have described the bad bits (should that be “lots”?) as painful, but to me it is all so real and enjoyable. I wish that there had been something this good about the Clough/Mackay years!
In the end, the book had brilliantly conveyed how Derby County has us all feeling like watching a Jim Smith / Mac 1 team ping 27 passes all over the pitch, ripping through the opposition, putting the striker through who scuffs his shot and the ball just slowly bobbles into the keeper’s hands.
Thanks for a superb piece of work, and here’s to many more.

Finished the book today, great read and a decent insight into the managers and how the players rated them, the Clough years was an eye opener, shame the dwarf never gave an insight into his time, you could of made a book clearly on that period ????

Hope it goes down well! You too @Woodley Ram+ @Coolascustard.
Yeah so my uni background is in sports journalism but I didn't actually have any of the connections when I began writing the book. So it took a good couple of years to build up all the relevant contacts and find the best people to contribute to the book. A lot of being ignored by media teams and then desperately begging some of those who contributed to help out with a few people. I go into a bit more detail on it in this pod with the @Steve Bloomer's Washing chaps:

Bought a copy from my son, and with the lockdown I don't know if it will get to him, but I can't read it as he is a sharp cookie and will spot any slight thumb prints or other markings on pages. However, I suspect that my wife may have bought it for me, either for Christmas or for my birthday, which is just after New Years Day.
You've obviously spoken to loads of people for this, and I wondered how you first managed to get your foot in the door to actually access all these people, as most of us mere mortals don't get to meet any of them.
