If he’s not shackled with anchoring the midfield and is given licence then it could be huge.

The thing is we all have a view and those views are open to challenge. I chose to challenge the mindset of certain posters who as members of a “fans” forum don’t sound much like fans to me.  All our players have strengths and weaknesses but this Collins focus is uncalled for at best and pretty revolting all too often. They are poised with a finger on the trigger.
I couldn’t give a twopenny damn if it engenders hostility. I know where I stand as a fan. I can comfortably say player X had a bad game or should have done better with that shot or tackle .. but what has been directed at Collins from some quarters isn’t analytical comment. Its just plain nasty.
And as for me … It’s not about being proved right or having the last laugh. It’s about being fair minded and doing the right thing.

I ducking hope Collins scores and shuts up some of the vile, primitive nobs on here that masquerade as fans. Just find someone to hate why don’t you. He scored in The last preseason, he hit double figures last season in a make shift team. He isn’t a genius but he’s a good lad and doesn’t deserve the total garbage coming form some quarters

It wasn’t me about WB but if Thommo is going to become a fixture, it’s this year, starting . I believe he has it in him. He’s got a touch and precision that’s a cut above. Is that enough ? Time will tell

These magical 20 goal a season strikers are great and everything, you know what's better though? Goals from across the team so we're not reliant on one player to hit the onion bag.
Why not have both? Well yeah that's the dream, I just think as fans we do focus on this superstar striker a bit too much at times.
Kinda lowkey happy with Collins, don't think he's anywhere near as bad as some make out.
Doesn't help himself win fans over with his Roy Keane style grumpy persona, I look at it as frustration and which I get, guy wants to win.

Yeah, we aren’t in disagreement about where he currently is, but my point is that in terms of finding value and a diamond in the rough. We have a player who we have all seen with our own eyes produce at an exceptionally high standard under good coaching.
Could he go on to never recapture that form? Of course, but if I’m a manager at this level and need a player in an attacking role having seen what he’s done at an academy level and in parts at a senior level, I don’t see many better options. A 21 year old player who in my opinion probably still is the best finisher in our side.  He scored 4 goals in 10 appearances at attacking midfield last season. He won us the game away at Oxford.
I know he has to improve on so many things, but at this level if you can work on him then you have a genuine match winner already on our books. I’m never going to deviate when it comes to Sibs, because I’ve seen what raw ability he had/has and I trust he can recapture it.

Think trust is the main thing. He is easy to sub, and leave out. Partly that is his own doing but he has also been allowed a much shorter leash than many others have had over the last few years. It probably only takes him having a bad half before he is out the team for 3-4 games.
I would like to see him trusted with a run of 10 or so games in midfield / at 10 / second striker and see how he does. Even after his performance at Oxford I think he was dropped about 2 games later.

Interesting that Thommo got good game time on Saturday. If Knighty goes we are going to need a willing runner in the middle.
He didn’t have much of a season last year, started ok without being spectacular, then the loan. In contrast to the previous season where he looked to be on a fast upward curve.
I like him. Great energy, accurate passing, good touch and a terrier. Confidence in his final ball maybe missing but I am going out on a limb and going to say his stepping up will be the big surprise this season.

It was something like 3 or 4 good performances out of maybe 10, which is more than good enough as a youngster that had just broken though, in a COVID-interrupted season.  Then we never really used him like that again, he got stuck out wide or given the odd 20 minutes here or there.
He only played a tiny handful of games as an actual wingback last season, and was pretty terrible.  His best run last season was as a fullback, but he wasn't good enough defensively and teams were starting to exploit that, so we stopped using him there.

His best football for us was that first spell when he broke through, basically playing as a split striker off a focal point up front.  You want him getting on the ball, running at defenders in the final third and getting shots off.  Not doing death-sprints up and down the wing, chasing opposing wingers and hugging the touchline to get crosses in.

Not really our concern about where he ends up, just that we maximise his fee and negotiate an appropriate sell-on clause.  As great a lad as I’m sure he undoubtedly is, he’s made it clear he doesn’t want to wait a season for Championship football. We can’t offer him what he wants, so the only thing we should worry about is that his suitor has the appropriate funds to seal the deal.

I enjoyed going to a smaller ground for a change and it felt welcoming - kudos to both clubs for arranging this. (One negative - I've not stood for a full 90 minutes for 35 or so years, felt decidedly ancient with my achy back and legs!)
Agree with you about Brown - I felt he was a little uncertain for a few minutes then looked so much better after a few touches. Appeared to want to get in the box - nice to see.
I felt there was a far faster approach to getting forward and the "hold it and pass sideways or back" approach was far less evident. Having 90% of the possession but zero goals gets you nowhere, so I'm pleased we are looking to get the ball, move it forwards and get attacking. A strong back line will give confidence for this approach.
My son made an interesting comment, he felt it was like the Oxford match last season - a little scrappy at times, people not on the same wavelength and a few off the pace and that showed how having a good few pre-season matches is important. I think we will see a far better start to the season thanks to this.

Well guys we played pretty well and some decent touches on the ball I am please james collions getting first goal it was good cross in which scored good goal from. But 2nd half took a bit longer get into the games with james he got pace to burn and instant impact. And two new young lads he took the goal well and brown lad I was very very impressed with him I think he could make step up to first team but early doors buy signs are promising. But one man was slagging them off I turned around said for crying give lads a break for some this first time in a black and white shirt. He shut up after that I cant stand people slagging them off.
