My latest favourite is definitely the one that Durham has been pushing, about us playing players we "can't afford", as if we aren't actually having to adhere to a Business Plan in Administration agreed with the EFL by Quantuma for which breaches carry further penalties. This classic piece of spin ignores the fact that most of the teams in the division (especially Reading and Forest) are playing players whose full wages would put them well over FFP limits - those are players that, literally, they cannot afford.

I make it that we have a squad of 21 (incl. 1 loan).

Only 7 of which we paid fees for, and only 3 of them were over £1m.

4 of the 7 are over 30 and nearing the end of their career.

The rest of the squad are journeymen signed on frees or come through our academy and are still under or around the age of 19/20.

Really like Cashin, don't mean to be disrespectful to him, but his distribution always surprises me - I don't know what it is, but he just looks like he's really uncomfortable on the ball when he isn't. I'm sure Sir Jake of Buxton is teaching him all he knows.

Love the fact Cashin is fast becoming our homemade Jake Buxton, being taught by none other than Jake Buxton himself.

I'm sure even Jake will admit he never looked the most comfortable on the ball yet those pinpoint 80 yard diagonals never failed to find their man. I have no idea why but I love Cashin already, just hope he can grow another few inches.

Tough one really. I think he's being exploited for his lack of experience. I have absolutely no doubts about his quality. And no doubts about his ability to turn around his form. The strength of character he showed when he came in after his debut and calmness he had is very admirable. It'll see him well and back on song sooner or later.

Just don't know what's best here, stick with him knowing he has quality and he gets more experience with every game? Will that just expose him and set his progress back? Do we drop him out of the team for a bit? I expect its been a whirlwind few months for him, maybe he just needs to step back a little and drink it all in before coming back into the side? But then no player wants to be dropped, so does that kill his confidence?

One of the many reasons I'm not a manager, just don't know what's best for him. More importantly, what's best for the team? No matter what you say that comes first.

With Bielik back I'd stick with Thompson on the bench, bring him on after 60mins when we're two, three or four nill up.

Well hope this embargo will be gone and be able to sign  new players so do we wait and see if phil jackle signs a new deal with stoke or will he be let go if he released I say we make a move and get him sign a new deal and hopeful we get luke plange on a season long loan again.

I would also give Richards a new deal so we got big tall player we can play a bit.

We need get festy tied down to a new contract asp.

I say rooney needs at least 12 new players in the summer ready for next season.

The areas I think we need streaghn next season.

    We need midfielders and wingers

We need defenders and we need at least 3 to 4 new strikers so we have opapions and fire power.

We maybe need free kick spailist to help out on that front.

    What do you guys think.

    Goalkeeper too!

Ebosele - not just a great player but has comfortably played right back, left back, right wing & left wing.

I don't remember any players of the past being able to do that. (although Jason Knight would probably have a go !!)

    Tremendous versatility

    He's no Dean Moxey

As I said before to try and salvage his credibility/reputation. Not an hope in hell it will happen. Him and Gibson have been comparing dick sizes for years. It’s just MM still trying to pretend he’s the bigger man

This is my fear. Maybe Mel knows that Gibson won’t take him on, or possibly can’t take him on (be there some legal reason or it’s just not feasible). To everyone else (at least in Mel’s mind) it will look like Mel is being the bigger man and trying to rescue his reputation in order to be able to visit Derbyshire in the next 30years

  7. Not wishing to be a gloom merchant but if we do manage to stay up then there are still issues:

We have 5 (ish?) players in contract after this season finishes and our best academy prospects picked off. Those players out of contract are currently free to sign a pre-contract with other clubs.

Rooney keeping us up would mean he would have a decent chance of any Premier League job he fancied and he would possibly see it as he'd earnt his managerial wings and would fancy a step-up.

All this still relies on a new owner and getting out of admin without a -15 deduction next season, but even with a new sugardaddy owner how much could really be spent under P&S? Would it be enough to fund the 10 to 15 players needed just to be competitive in the Championship and what manager could we entice/afford to take on such a big task?

(This post is not advocating a drop to League One as a solution)

  8. Never liked the bloke, never liked Rooney either.

But these two are absolutely our two most important people at the club by a long way and I don't think Tom would be fighting like he is if Rooney hadn't made him captain.

I'm half tempted to bet that if Rooney stays at the end of the season then so will Tom - regardless of Championship or League One status.

(Pie in the sky if we do go down and pretty sure I shot down someone on here for saying the same things a few months ago, but Wayne could just maybe persuade Tom a year to get us back up and load in some hefty League One promotion bonuses in his new contract..... maybe..)

  9. Tom will 100% stay until the end of the season unless the admins force a sale I’m sure of it. Rooney has turned down the chance to manage his boyhood club in order to try to keep us up and has shown massive faith in Tom by making him captain (when there are/were at least 10 other first teamers of better captaincy potential in my opinion!).

With Rooney also taking on the role of God/magician, I’m half believing he might persuade Tom to give it a year in League One (with massive promotion bonus)…. Or at least sign a new contract so we get a bit of cash for him.

Alf, you should set up a thread with some of your not so legal old Derby stories, I'd love to hear them and I'm sure a few others would!

If we ever get out of this mess I think we need to reassess who our true rivals are, Forest are simply down the road and want to see us relegated. Boro on the other hand want to liquidate us.

Honestly, whatever happens I will always have more hatred to Middlesbrough then I ever will Forest.

if we do get through this i'm setting up a Bury-Derby Supporters Club, providing free Derby tickets to any Bury fans who want them
