I can see a theme developing here.
We already have "the Sergio Busquets of the Championship" ((c) the Guardian) in George Thorne.
And we have "the albino Fabregas".
Is Keogh "the drunk Sergio Ramos"?
Leeds are no mugs as their form going into the game suggested. I see that as a massive three points and will be just the start Mac will have craved. It will no doubt boost the confidence of the players too. Three games unbeaten now, 7 points from 9 since Pearson was Ostrich-asized.
Having seen us away at Cardiff and Reading I was glad to see Johnson, Hughes and Butterfield retained in midfield. They look the perfect balance for me until Thorne returns to fitness and contention. And that's where yesterday's game was won for me.
Admittedly, Leeds will count themselves unlucky with a couple of great chances but we too might have had more luck. I still think Vydra was onside. Superb counter with Butters feeding Ince and laying it on a plate for Vydra. Promising signs there.
Christie looks a shadow of the player that impressed me so much last season. Hopefully Mac can get him to think less and play more instinctively. I was more impressed with Lowe the other side. He plays above his years. The centre back pairing look to be forming a good understanding too.
Ince had a better game than he has in a long while. I was glad to see Russell back involved too. Underrated player. Great hit for the goal and you could see how much it meant to him. Vydra is always a threat in behind. I'm growing to like him. He grafts a lot which is nice to see from a lone striker.
But the midfield trio were the pick of the bunch for me, with Bradley my star man. He allowed Will and Butters to do their stuff. It's what we were missing under Pearson who was too stubborn to see the obvious. I can see this run snow balling. I hope so. You could see the confidence in players growing after that Russell goal. We retreated and looked nervy once Butters was replaced by Bryson and Will went off. But I think we were due a bit of fortune.
Looking forward to games again. It's refreshing. Come on you Rams. ⚽️
If we play a midfield three I think Hughes - Thorne - Johnson would be out best combo. Butterfield is nice and tidy but he looks like he is running in treacle at times and is not the pressing dynamo we need. Hughes can provide the technical nous and Johnson can get stuck in to them like Bryson did under McLaren's first tenure.
I get that Johnson has not had the best of times so far but played in a position of strength he could be one of our key players.
