I’d very much like us to be unearthing gems too. I’ve said a couple of times I was excited by the prospect of Lee Bonis, not because I’d seen the lad play, more that it had the potential to be us finding a rough diamond, polishing him up (matron, ooo-err etc) and then either selling him on at a massive profit or seeing him lead us through the leagues. 
My point is, there’s still time for something like that to happen, and if it doesn’t transpire it won’t be the end of the world. We’re steadily rebuilding the club with solid if unspectacular signings, I’m alright with it, others aren’t and that’s fair too. 

1 element we haven't discussed is maybe Warne is a big fan of Dajaune Brown and he's factoring him in?

Some serious bed wetting over this potential signing. If he signs he’s just another piece of the jigsaw, it’s pointless getting hysterical until the window is closed and we’ve concluded our summer business. A league 1 strike force of Collins, Washington, Rhodes will be decent. It needs a splash of youthful endeavour but let’s not forget the young loanees we had last season were constantly slagged off for not being the finished article. Perhaps Warne sees Brown as filling the 4th striker slot?

I’m all too aware, that’s why I’m not comparing them and have accepted we are unlikely to see a McGoldrick type forward.
As yet it’s a rumour on Twitter given a little more credibility by Big Trav and his recent record. It’s interesting to see the reaction to Rhodes being linked compared to the reaction to Godden. Both played championship football most recently, Godden is 31 so no spring chicken himself, yet Rhodes is being dismissed by what seems a majority and plenty like the idea of Godden. Rhodes has the better overall goal record and has played at a higher level, he may still have something to offer if he does sign, he may not. The only way any of us get to know is if he does sign, either way it’s out of our control so I see no point getting wound up by it. If he signs and if he’s rubbish, maybe then I’ll complain. 

You’re talking about Rhodes as if he isn’t one of the most prolific strikers to ever play in the Football League. It’s ok if he’s not your type of striker, but I don’t think you can argue with his record. 

I haven’t been this excited since we signed Vic Moreland and Billy Caskey.

IF we sign Rhodes we’ll have 3 strikers in their early 30s, which isn’t ideal, but also not the end of the world.
I’ve long resigned myself to the fact we won’t see a player with the same touch of class as McGoldrick, so whoever comes in provided they stay fit and help Derby win I’ll be happy.

There were many games, especially at home, last season where we had all the ball, all the play, all the pressure and for whatever reason just couldn't quite get the killer second goal or even first goal. Sure there were games were we smashed everything infront of us.
Maybe, someone with knowhow and a bit of guile and peno box quality would have gobbled up a few cut backs, balls in and made the pressure tell. We might need someone to simply slot a few 6 yard box balls into the net.
Maybe Rhodes is that man?

Every signing in football is a gamble. I agree with pretty much everything you say and can see why many would say he would be a poor signing,but let's say we had just signed Bonis for for 350k or whatever it was the rumours were.
Does that guarantee goals? He might score 30 goals and be the league 1 god. He might get none and look way out of his depth.

Warne, with history of promotion at this level, will have a rough idea of the type of squad we need, made up of players with certain characteristics required throughout the season.
Maybe him and his recruitment team think Rhodes still has something to offer. Something thst will help the club over the line.
Experience?
Goals?
Who knows.
If he puts his eggs in the "Rhodes will score 25 goals" basket and he fails spectacularly its his head on the block.

He’s Paul Warne thank god. I for one am delighted that he is. 

They’ve spent a week doing triple training sessions in Spanish July weather before doing a mid day match in Spanish July weather. Just lucky none of them collapsed 😂. 
 
Anyone who takes anything from pre season matches needs to lighten up. It’s all about minutes in the legs.
