Inverted wingers are just modern football. So few teams play with left footed on the left, right footed on the right like 20 15 years ago. Coincided with the shift towards goals coming from those players, rather than strikers in a lot of top teams.
For it to be effective though it's got to be getting to them quicker, and part of that problem is we don't have a CM Infront of Adams and Smith that can pick that pass quick enough.

Or a right footed player, playing as an inverted winger who gets a sitter on his weaker foot?
Call me old fashioned but....next season, if we still have PW - with his get it wide and get crosses in philosophy - I'd like to see a left footed left winger and a right footed right winger a) for getting decent crosses in and b) for scoring back post sitters!
Such an obvious thing you've pointed out that I've never really thought about. We get doubled up on down that left but part of it is the time they're taking to turn back on their right foot.

Once it’s not working for the wide men, we just don’t know how to change the play to go through the middle. We carry on doing the same patterns over and over. I think Warne doesn’t want touches in midfield in case we lose the ball and it’s 2 v 3. The job of Smith and Adams is to scrap for it and move it wide and not much else. The ball rarely got to Collins from midfield if at all. So predictable. Got to about 65 mins and I just thought we were never gonna score.
Agree with this then by the time we've got it out wide they've doubled up on the winger and we can't do much with it anyway. 433 with a CAM and leave Collins further forward would've been a much better set up.

Its funny how you can say how bad the football is all season and get slated for being negative and all this paul warne knows how to get out the league, to where because we dont win everyone agrees 😂 said it for ages warne should of been gone ages ago
We looked all over the place at times but blame still lies with the players for me, gutless performance and can't excuse those missed chances.

Disgrace of a free kick

Wilson has to do better no defenders near him straight at the keeper. So frustrating this game.

Take two days for prepping and chatting to the Radio Derby fanboys.
As long as they're nice blokes and there's a good cup of coffee involved results aren't important

What have they been doing all week? Everyone's on completely different pages, you'd think with 4 games to go and a full week to prepare we'd have some sort of plan.

Yep, whilst not mathematically out of it, I think Barnsley have blown it now. Posh do have a chance but, they probably need to win five of their remaining games to catch and overtake both us and Bolton. As we have seen, every game is winnable but they could all be lost or drawn. To be honest, I can’t see both us and Bolton collapsing so Posh’s chances are probably slim.
Vale need a win against them tonight so hopefully do us a favour, if we play the last 4 like the first half against Pompey we're in with a very good chance.
-
3 horse race with Barnsley losing. Got a funny feeling about Peterborough, 6 left to play for them and 4 very winnable games, if they beat Oxford too they'll be right in it.

I agree. And YouRams forgot Wilson. I would also add Rooney into the mix. And Wildsmith if he stays.
Yeah my bad not sure how I forgot Wilson he's been great this season, think he'll keep getting better.

For the championship Cash, Nelson, Ward, Smith, Adams, NML, CBT.
Bench Barks, Sibs, Thompson.
Prems too far away would have to see how they'd get on in the Champ first.

Morning chaps , i didnt get chance to watch the game. Now everyone has had chance to sleep on it , what do you reckon? personally i would have bitten ya hand off for 1 point against league leaders but i am concerned with the chasing pack. Who performed well/bad and what do you think should of been done differently
I've slept on it and will probably get pelters but I still feel last night is 2 points dropped. And I'll elaborate.
All if buts maybes granted, but Bolton win their game in hand then win another that we lose there's still a good chance we miss out on autos by 2 points.
You can pick any time through the season we could've gained 2 points, most will look at Northampton and say the massive Derby County should be rolling over Northampton and that's where we went wrong.
But I'll still be more disappointed In last night and the reason is we never turned up at Northampton, we could've played for a month and never scored. Last night we turned up, first half was one of the best attacking performances I've seen all season. Pompey looked rattled and couldn't deal with the pace. Yes they had more chances first half could've gone in 3-2 down, but we didn't we took the lead. Second half they couldn't get anything going, we gave them too much respect because of the position they're in, played too defensively, didn't make the Collins sub when we should've. These tactical decisions on a day when we turned up and imo could've gone on to score more had we carried on as we did in the first could be more costly than a game we didn't turn up in.
I don't post on here enough to know the beef some posters seem to have with having a positive or negative opinion on decisions by the manager, I'm not strongly for or against Warne, for what he's been dealt finances injuries etc he's doing a good job yes but I still think everyone's opinions should be considered and not ridiculed, would be a boring world if we all thought the same after all.

So the manager has a stinker because the opposition didn’t look like doing anything? I wonder if that might be anything to do with how he set the team up. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it isn’t a good setup.
I'm not a Warne basher at all but imo he's had a stinker, Collins shouldn't of been on the pitch still being on a yellow and you're asking for trouble sitting back. We looked really good going forward in the first half best I've seen us in a long time so it's frustrating we didn't continue to go at them in the second.

Yeah absolute stinker 2-2 at the leaders sort it out Warne
We caused them problems every time we ran at them so to sit back for 45 minutes imo is a bad tactical decision. Yes before the game you'd take a point however we got it but had we gone for it we'd of put real pressure on the teams below.

Think Warnes had a stinker there and 2 points dropped. They didn't look like doing anything that second half. Their LB picked up an early yellow, should've pulled Collins for Wash and him and NML go at them down that wing. Sat back, left Collo on too long and inevitably they score.

Unfortunately not, think Bird would've thrived with Adams behind him. I can't bash Warne because I think he's been incredibly unlucky with injuries, just as we start putting something together a main part of the jigsaw falls. Collins, Gayle, Bird and even Ward all started to look like we had something in one formation or another before getting injured.
