The thing is, we're football fans. We tend to like owners who give us teams that win and are good to watch. Even better if they say the right things and plug into the club's identity. Mel did this, so he got lots of support and affection. I don't think that's a thing that anyone should disparage.
The position now means he's lost most of that support.
And it'll happen again with the next owner - they'll be popular when we do well and vilified when we don't.

Don't know if anyone has replied as I'm wading through this thread.
I believe the implication MM gave was that they were negotiating one penalty for all of the outstanding years (3 years ending 2018 (4 points), 2019 & 2020), so as not to be hit with a double punishment for the same restatement exercise.
2019 was always expected to be a fail given the restatement with 2020 & 2021 likely to be a pass once chunks of the big amortisation hits have worked their way back into the 3 years ending 2018 & 2019.

I think the wording "resubmitting the accounts" has caused confusion. My understanding is it's not possible for us to resubmit any accounts to HMRC as they were fine and accepted by HMRC. And a company can't retrospectively go back and change them without very good reason (which the current situation doesn't count as). That's why we have "sent information" (as Nixon put it) to the EFL to say "this is what the accounts would have said, had we amortized the way you now say you want". And the EFL can sit on that forever. And Derby's case would have been "we can't submit the latest accounts to the HMRC until we know that you're satisfied with what we've sent you" with the additional caveat that Mel mentioned in his interview that suggests EFL want to punish us several times for the same offence. Meaning they could pile on points deductions year on year when the offences wouldn't have happened had the league not accepted the accounts in the first place.
I'm not sure that answers the question, but I  didn't really understand the question! :D

    My take on that
He is absolutely right without covid this would never had happened but Covid has happened it is here
we look to have failed the FFP in one year by £4 million so Potential 4pt deduction so I assume that may linger on? Will that be £4 million on following years? And more 4 point deductions - who knows as the EFL seem to double count.
we were denied the £8 million loan in January by the EFL ( premiership money) to help pay tax and NI for unexplained reasons which is a shame because now the HMRC won’t be getting that money as a nation because they will be offered let’s say 20 pence in the pound in the not to distant future.
he mentioned about us not being to extend a players contact to keep him a year longer to maybe keep his value or sell him ( we know this to be Jack Marriott) he also mentioned that another championship club lost a lot of money in a similar way - my view is that it would be Reading FC and Omar Richards who left to join Bayern Munich was it on a free)
He mentioned that since F&P has come in only Two clubs have been promoted without breaching F&P
He mentioned that 15 calls of interest in buying the club came in over the weekend which he believes 2-3 have the means and intent to do so
I believe he mentioned that he still owns the stadium so if he gets anything back it may come from that and his losses are in excess of £200 million of his own money
He said he tried and failed and was sorry that we are where we are.
He wouldn’t go into depth about the EFL at this point in time
we’ll that’s what I heard I read others may have different opinions.

I think he did well there.
As much as we can hope for an owner who has billions, it’s not realistic. They all want us at the cheapest price and know that administration is the best way to do that. They’ve forced Mel’s hand and he knows that long term this is the best for the club. Also Mel knows the EFL will never give us a fair run without him gone.
He’s never set out to ruin the club and I’m fairly certain if any of us had the money he had we would have tried to do the same.
The amortisation part was a risk, but the EFL didn’t say a word for years and we were conforming to the financial standards. How someone that is not an accountant gets the final say over an accountant I’ll never know.
As much as everyone can say covid can’t be used as an excuse, it’s had a massive contribution towards it. Our turnover was one of the largest in the championship, probably the biggest of clubs that don’t get parachute payments. We’ve been hit harder than any other club and the timing of Covid came at the end of our big spending.
Interesting what he said about only 2 teams that have been promoted since P&S was brought in have not broken the rules. Shows how broken the system is.
We beat Villa at Wembley and none of this ever happens.

Those slamming Mel should pause for a moment to think about his intentions.
I do not - for a minute - think he's intended to run the club down.
He has spent millions, not to run the club into debt, but to chase the dream. We all supported that chase.
Even though he's managed things badly, which he admits, I do believe that he genuinely thinks the only way he can get new owners in is to put the club into administration.
I'm very far from happy about that, actually been crying about it, but I think it's sincere on his part.

I think a lot commenting on here have already made their mind up.
I'm not happy myself, however, I'd ask people to at least keep an open mind.
It's not implausible to think that potential buyers are waiting for administration because their costs would be so much less.
I agree staff and supporters will suffer but this may actually be the only way to get the new owners that everyone craves.

If we get 21 points deducted, we need to be looking at an average of 1.5pts per game from now if we stand any chance of survival. Very difficult but not impossible, would equate to an 8th-10th place finish

    This.
He made mistakes learning on the job last year, he might make a few more, but considering the bum hand he’s been dealt, he’s showing his leadership and fighting characteristics in one. He doesn’t flap, he’s not moaning, just getting on with the job.
What is clear, the players believe in him and are not just playing with pride, they’re actually implementing his tactics remarkably well, given the threadbare nature of our squad. For all Rooney has done wrong, lacking maturity at times, he’s actually proving a good mentor to our youngsters and the whole team are responding to his tactics.
Going to be a long season, but Rooney comes across with far more sincerity, than anything we’ve heard from the boardroom in a long while. His comments on the staff losing jobs for me were both heartfelt and genuine.
Whatever happens, his stock is rising amongst Derby fans and rightfully so. Keep up the good work Wayne ?
We as fans should believe in him.

When he first said his job was to bring the dignity and pride back to the club a while ago, I raised an eyebrow, particularly given what happened later that evening.
Wayne Rooney has many talents, but I thought that was something of a stretch.
Yet in a time of crisis, it turns out he is actually a real leader, and has the emotional depth and intelligence to become a figurehead.
I wanted him gone last season, even started a thread saying so, but recent events have made me re-evaluate his contribution.
He's the leader of the resistance, and today was a test he pulled off with aplomb.
More tests lie ahead, somehow this might not be the darkest moment, but I now see we've got a steady hand on the tiller.

Even my wife, who has no interest in football, commented on Rooney’s concern for the staff who inevitably will become collateral damage in all this. I thought he spoke with humility and sincerity about the staff and I’m giving him bonus points for the beautifully crafted dig at the shyster’s running of the club.

    Hey All,
I heard this news earlier. I don't know much about the history of how you got to this stage but I know that it's due to mismanagement and really poor conduct by owners. I also heard Rooney earlier say he heard about the Administration when watching TV.
I was gutted to hear this latest update. I like Derby - although that's not really the point at the minute...
I think the point that I wanted to make is that every single football fan really needs to take notice here. It could be there club next. It doesn't matter if they're your biggest rivals, you hate the club, etc.. it's more than that. I'm sick of seeing rich owners come in, playing at being a chairman, making poor decisions or taking risks and then putting the whole club in jeopardy. I'm also sick of the rest of the footballing world just ignore it and almost watch on with mild interest to see what happens. We're all football fans first and foremost and clubs like yours and others have been around well over a hundred years and form a huge part of the community.
It's the fans that really suffer here. Not to mention the staff, those in back office roles, canteen staff, cleaners, car park attendants, maintainance people, etc...
Anyway, I hope that there is some better news for you soon although I realise things look bleak. I know you're going to try to negotiate on the points deduction, either way hopefully there's some clarity and closure on that so you at least know where you stand and can focus on football.
Great result today as well (at least that's one positive!)

Really irritates me that Gibson throwing his toys out his pram has ultimately cost us a takeover and resulted in hard working people behind the scenes losing their jobs.
Then football in general, the big 6 nearly destroyed english football bit have got away with it, we try to get promotion and overspend & get punished by a governing body who should be there to help & support their members not seek & destroy them.
Then finally, teams who got lucky & got promoted whilst breaching P&S/FFP get away with it as do the likes of the deals between Watford/Udinese & Forest/Olympiakos which clearly are done to get around the rules

Just trying to think of some positives from all of this...
Hopefully all possible deductions apply to this season meaning next season we can start from scratch
Relegation is out of the players & Rooneys hands, almost a free hit of a season to try new things out & give youth minutes
    Mel will finally be gone
Just hoping we have someone competent take us over, no point deductions apply to next season & that we actually have a club to support next season.

Nothing especially original to add but just open-mouthed at this decision. I never liked the big spending but I did respect Mel at the time for seemingly funding it - never foresaw a situation where 'one of our own' would stick us into administration though & the decisions he took then are now seen through a very different perspective.
Pretty telling the club statement mentions June 2019 as being the point where he was looking for a buyer. Smacks very much of 18/19 being a 'death or glory' punt after which he wanted out - very poor behaviour indeed as no proper investor/buyer was going to be interested in the club after such an expensive season with no legacy & plenty of FFP strain. He then exacerbated this by bringing in Rooney, making a mess of the Keogh dismissal & like many poorly run businesses, was vulnerable to a major event like Covid to bring everything to a head.
Obviously a lot of anger quite rightly aimed at Mel but my disdain for the EFL just dropped to the floor - a disgrace to the traditions of the world's oldest professional league & utterly unfit for purpose. Its high time the Government's Department for Culture, Media & Sport opened an inquiry into their management of the League & their suitability for continuing in that role - not just our experience but their already disgusting track record as evidenced by Wigan, Bury & Macclesfield. Their weasel statement about us 'not meeting the criteria' for an emergency loan facility that every other club in our division was given access to was utterly contemptable & entirely predictable.
What next? Well, I would imagine Rooney will be leaving at some point in the next 7 days - either in disgust or in agreement with the administrators. Then a zombie season knowing what our fate on the field is going to be whilst desperately scrambling for a new owner before January - will a new owner want to buy now or towards the back end of the season knowing there's no point funding a loss making club destined to go down? From a cold, calculating perspective I think buyers may keep their powder dry for a few months
And what of us, the fans? Firstly, lets show our defiance by continuing the vocal support we've enjoyed this season - whatever we suffer off the field, they can't silence us at the matches. Secondly, there may be some talk of Supporters Trust looking to buy out the club - please don't close minds to this. I've got no experience of dealing with Ramstrust but now is the time to put aside historical differences & consider how we can move out of these cycles of boom & bust. I'm convinced its a viable option.
Finally, its been a terrible evening but we will come back from this. In whatever form, whenever it is - keep the faith. COYR ?
