I was 18 years old in 1970, football mad and went to every home game, and many away matches, which were great days out, usually on the train.
Six of us from Allestree FC went to Newquay in 1970, which was just brilliant - sun, sand, surfing and girls - what a time to be alive, but we all came back on the Friday evening to ensure we got to the Rams vs Man. Utd Watney Cup Final, at the BBG, which we won 4-0.
Memories which cannot be taken back - wonderful days

I completely disagree. Their response only strengthens my view that EFL is completely incompetent.
Firstly  - multiple occasions they've dodged questions and fall back on an argument that the current and potential future punishments seek to maintain the 'integrity' of the league. bullpoo. How is the integrity of the league being maintained when we're being forced to play a makeshift team full of academy rookies and retired pros? Its a minor miracle Rooney is doing the job he's doing.
They completely disregard that the club has already been penalized to the point of extinction, and are still pushing for further sanctions which will only to serve to damage the supporters, the local community, and if we're lucky, new owners. The club is on its knees and all they can talk about is maintaining league integrity because 'its what the rules say' - they don't seem to grasp the issue that the rules are not fit for purpose in the first place. They also completely miss the point that our suspended 3 point penalty (for paying players 22 days late) was completely out of whack with what they agreed for Sheff Weds (and other clubs have got off scott free for the same offense in the past).
Also, this whole 'its the benefactor model which is wrong' cr@p needs to end. the EFL and its member clubs are in this financial predicament because the EFL are incompetent commercially, cannot negotiate a proper broadcasting deal, and have bent over and presented themselves to the EPL to take full advantage of. More regulations, such as the cost controls they're talking about, will only serve to broaden the gap between the EPL and EFL. Football either needs to stop being run as a business, or you let those who understand business run the football. You can't go either way.

Many, many years ago, I was holidaying in Tunisia, when I went into the Souk to buy a leather bag, and there on the wall was a picture of Derby County. When I told the proprietor I was from Derby, he said, in very broken English, "Ah, Cloughie, Rams, very good, very good". I got a huge discount on the bag as well!!
Our club, players, managers and reputation, name it what you will, began many years ago, way before Wayne Rooney or Frank Lampard, as Steve Bloomer was in demand before WWI and was coaching in Germany because of his reputation as a great footballer.

Derby FC / Administrators can't afford to turn £250k from SKY TV for those two home games. There will also be a small number of people turn up to watch the game, so all-in-all, these two matches will generate about £300k.
As the administrators said last week and extra 5,000 fans paying an average of £20 each generates £100k, so let it roll in, in any way that they can receive it.

My unpopular opinion is that I believe the Premier League SHOULD shut up shop.
I heard on the radio that the revenue generated by the Premier League is currently 50/50 between overseas and the UK. It has changed significantly and quickly as it once stood at 90/10. Now, I don't think that is a bad thing at all and obviously for the Premier League it's fantastic. The apatite for the league is great, but let's not pretend that grew because of the promotion and relegation. It grew because of the dominance of the top 6 and 90% of that overseas revenue is due to them, without question. The balance will soon shift where the Premier League becomes a genuine tourist league. The revenue will be significantly dominated by overseas investment and in turn there will be requirements by the Premier League to pander, if that's the right word, to the investors. We aren't far away from Premier League games being played in different countries and again, I'm not totally against it. I wouldn't want Derby to be a part of it.
A permanent break from the Premier League would allow the EFL to focus on their brand. The majority of football supporters in this country support teams outside the top 20 clubs in the league. Undeniable. I would argue that the majority of football fans in the country, like me, aren't interesting the big clubs - the big names. They just want a game of football to watch at a reasonable price at a reasonable time.
The EFL then could become a competitor to the Premier League. The top division in the EFL becomes the Premier League for the 'national league' it's not a stepping stone any more. I genuinely believe it would garner more attention from the wider public, if marketed correctly. The biggest benefit is that clubs wouldn't have the disparity between the Premier League and Championship anymore, the pot of gold isn't there.
The only other option is going to be increased hand-outs from the Premier League down into the football league. The more the Premier League grows, the more help the Championship will need to stop it becoming a complete farce - more so than it already is.
Mel said only two teams in the past 10 years(?) have been promoted without completely blowing up their finances in their promotion year, excluding those promoted with parachute payments. You only have to look at the top 3 now. I think the frustrations with Norwich being promoted and relegated almost bi-annually is starting to cause questions too, from the Premier League.

This hurts more because this isn't some dodgy, secretive ownership from a foreign country putting the club into administration, it's a local man. A man who i thought had the best interests in the club at heart. We all make mistakes, this is a huge mess. We're all human. What angers me more is a local Derby man has taken zero responsibility for this mess. Zero. Blaming COVID, blaming the EFL which is a valid argument. But to not have the integrity to accept ultimate responsibility for the financial mess of the club is a disgrace. He gambled and failed. Have the guts to stand up and apologise to the supporters tomorrow or next week. Supporters who have backed this man through thick and thin. We trusted you Mel. We trusted you. And you've not had the decency to communicate clearly to the fan base, now we're left in an unknown situation where worse case scenario there will be no more Derby County.
    Shame on you.

Good post Ilkley, I am hoping Gerald Krasner and his acquaintances are appointed.
He has a good record for rescuing football clubs in the same position that we find ourselves.
but you are absolutely right it will get worse before it gets better.
Just one further point It may be better to out the money in the club once the administration has gone through. This way the current owner and directors won't be able to appropriate it.
But you're absolutely hang on. COYR

ImARam2 got a reaction from GangwayD in Stories of being in the ‘Home’ End
    Saturday, 31st March 1990
My wife and I were staying with her sister & brother-in-law, Tony, down in sunny Surrey. He was a massive Chelsea fan and an even bigger idiot with it because he was one of the 'barrow-boys' working in the city, with "loads-a-money". (I can say that now because he's the ex-brother-in-law)
He got me a ticket, not for the Shed End, but in one of the stands, which were all home supporters.
However, we went into a pub across the road from Stamford Bridge before the game, full of Chelsea fans, who I can only describe as absolute nut cases. We were with about half-dozen of Tony's friends, when he calls out, "My brother-in-law here is a Derby fan"!!!!! duck me, what do I do - do I run for the door, curl up in a ball and take the kicking, or just stand there pleading and disowning the club I love?
I must have looked scared-s**l*ss, because they must have felt sorry for me, and started laughing at me, chanting and shouting what they were going to the Derby fans and how Chelsea were going to wipe the ass with us.
Anyway, back to the match, I kept quiet for most of the game, and Derby equalised with about 10 minutes to the end (it was Mick Harford, because I looked it up), and I jumped up shouting out 'Come on you Rams'., which brought me to the attention of some of the home supporters, which, not quite the Shed End mob, but big, and thick enough, to have a go at me for being in their stand. Next minute two policemen, who were in the gangway, rushed up to me and told me to "shut-the-f***-up", otherwise, not to throw me out, or arerst me, but, "we'll let the mob on to you". Bloody charming.
Anyway, I shut-up, saw out the game, which ended 1-1, and departed as quick as I could, followed by the brother-in-law, who quite rightly, thought I was a coward, as he said, nothing would have happened. I didn't stay to find out as we headed for the Tube.
Another thing I found when looking for the game, the attendance was only 14,263 for a Division 1 game - this was 'BTP' (Before The Premier), which as we moan about our current attendance, was pretty pathetic.

I personally know of 5 people who have not re-newed their season tickets, all with seats in the Toyota West Stand, with an average of £400 per ticket = £2,000 per season. Not a great deal in the scheme of things, but multiply that by, say, 5,000 fans, and that's a revenue loss of £10 million.
Three of those, people I've got to know fairly well over the last 12 years, will not be returning to watch the games at Pride Park, due to numerous issues
too far to travel (from Sth.Yorks); getting old (two of them over 65 years old); "fed-up of watching poor football, week after week" (no change there though !!!); money getting a little tight to pay for a season ticket when you can watch them on television at least a dozen times a season; too many changes of kick-off times & days (Friday night / Saturday lunchtime or evening / Sunday afternoon & Monday night) Covid, not prepared to push through crowds, with or without masks The list can go on and we find many reasons why fans are not turning up to watch live games, and we have to understand, that perhaps things have changed since the great lock-down, and we have to accept a "new normal".
