  1. Its become apparent that some sides , Charlton,Portsmouth and Oxford to mention 3 have looked at the runners and riders this season and thought, spend a little bit in the right places and we might get up this season

I can see all 3 of those sides being in or around the top6 as they have recruited well

I'm not concerned yet but firepower was our main flaw last season and with Didzy gone this window has to be productive and get us some goalscorers

There is no excuse for not being in or around Top 2 IMO that may seem harsh but we really must be looking at those top two positions

We must hit the ground running so our business in the market is crucial ...lets hope Warne is getting the players he really wants

  2. Paul Warne is prrobably finding himself as a manager in a position he's never been

Manager of a side who are the big boys in the division, probably have the biggest budget, have the biggest fan base in division and the highest expectation and dare i say it favourites to win the league

Although he has experience of getting out of this division he will surely see the difference in the player that this club attracts compared to Rovrum ( No disrespect )

Therefore it does not surprise me that he is taking his time when it comes to spending our budget because I'm sure that is where the bulk of the budget is going in the forward line.

I know its frustrating as us fans wait for news but I think we maybe pleasantly surprised and hopefully pleased with the forwards we sign....eventually ....the better players usually take longer as there is more interest than just us

    Exciting season ahead

Just under 1 in 2 at Prem 2 level, suggests he knows where the goal is. Might be a good bench option. You'd imagine he'd prefer to stay local and move to the coast though.

Interestingly (or not) I once loaned him on Football Manager when we had an embargo and he hit 25+ goals in league one. Signed him again but permanently for about £7m a year later and he was a key player to getting us to the premier league.

Thats it then lets snap him up!!

Fitness is very important to Paul Warne and they have to be the right “Type”. Is that how we ended up with Tony Springett in January ? When a 5 goal midfielder / striker would have got us over the line and we would have been talking about playing Leeds and Leicester.

Im a Warne fan but agree with this

I think Warne finds it difficult to sign players …they maybe want to come here as he mentioned it’s easy to get players to come to DCFC

But I think players have to tick a lot of boxes to get signed and it’s not Warne to sign loads of players this method is both good for getting the right characters but also may mean we also don’t sign players that maybe decent but don’t fit his ideals

I sometimes think just good instinct is a good tool to have in your locker as not everyone gets on with everyone in the place of work but do get his ethos

just hope that doesn’t spoil some deals which would’ve had a major impact where it matters most and that’s on the pitch

All I was trying to say was add a few goals to our squad and I think even some who are twitchy might be less twitchy shall we say

at this moment in time I don’t see where the goals are coming from but we have plenty of time before first game and a lot of players will be weighing up there options

You want 4 new strikers, plus Collins, to make our team look much better. You must really be twitching at the moment mate. Take it easy.

Not twitching as you call it at all …I’m not anti Warne like you we’ll be ok

I guess youre twitching but maybe try moving out of the armchair you’re always in …..might help your circulation take it easy 👍🏻

  7. The more I think about it the more I think Warne will go for Ladapo as one of our strikers

Slightly over the age of what hw wants maybe but definitely a player who could get 15+ goals next season

I’d rather we sign 3-4 players who are going to score than just one

If we signed Ladapo  May and two other goal scorers who can get double figures  …with Collins I think our whole team would look much better

  8. Don’t rate JCH and my view on him was confirmed in second leg at hillsborough he offered nothing and was responsible for at least one of the goals

not saying I wouldn’t take him for 500k because he’s worth that in L1 but posh will want silly money and he just isn’t worth it

if they want 5m and he was worth a punt a championship club would’ve been  in for him by now but I doubt they will judging on what I’ve seen yes I know he scored a few but that is all some people see…his all round game is poor imo

I do wonder if we are only looking at players in uk or would we dare try a player or two from abroad ?

I don’t think Warne’s methods appeal to too many ‘footballing’ strikers,

You don’t know !!! they don’t appeal to too many footballing strikers

    you just don’t like Warne!!!

pathetic really ….try getting behind the manager and the team

We will win the first game of the season against Wigan and the goal scorers aren’t even here yet… relax! It’s a marathon not a sprint.

I am relaxed was just saying at this moment in time what my thoughts were ....just hoping we get some decent firepower

Just curious as to what people think we need.

I agree with Warne with the respect of the back 4. One more centre back and ideally then a wing back that can also play CB like Roberts did. Someone like Harding for example.

I disagree with him slightly with midfield being ok. I don't think it is. Currently it's the same as last season minus Harvey White. So Hourihane, Knight, Bird and Smith. There isn't enough goals there for me and on occasions last season it did get bullied. I just think we're a bit lightweight there. Even without Knight leaving. I feel we need one more in midfield. If Knight does go, as seems inevitable, then we would need two in my opinion. Someone like Brannagan would improve our midfield and maybe loan like that El Mizouni.

Warne also mentioned 3 attacking players. Now I'm not saying we missed Osula when he went back at all. I just think we missed having another striking option on the bench. We didn't have many options last season. We had Mcgoldrick, Collins, Osula, Barkhuizen, Mendez-Laing and Dobbin. We've not got 3 of them now. So immediately we need 3 just to replace them. But ideally I think we need 4. Probably one out and our centre forward and then others that could potentially play across the front 3. We had no competition for NML or Barkhuizen last season. Other than Dobbin.

So with nobody leaving now. I'd say a CB, RWB (ideally one that can play CB too), CM and 4 attacking players.

All just my opinion though. Happy to see if others think we need more less.

Great post i too don't think our midfield is good enough, not enough goals and I think its crucial we add more goals all over the pitch really....a couple of strikers and a decent 10 would be nice but I've played in teams where midfielders score goals and it really does make a massive difference .....it would be where i spent a bit of money if me ...a decent striker a 10 and a goalscoring midfielder

also Harding and Bradley added to what we have would make us look very decent in a back 3 4 or 5

You state Bird and Knight don't get enough goals, but ignore that balance is achieved by having someone like Hourihane in there. Bird and Knight would be in there for greater defensive contribution, and in Bird's case, greater open play creativity.

They don't and I dont see Knight, Hourihane and Bird being balanced or having enough goal threat ...does that spell it out?

Bird and Knight should be defensively astute but going forwards we need more than that 3 can get goals wise hence why i said we need another attack minded CM we do not need two defensive minded CM's IMO

How many goals do you think our midfield should be contributing ? last season when the strikers or basically Mcgoldrick were not scoring where were our goals coming from ?

You're sticking up for Bird like he's being victimised....he's not....but we need more threat from midfield and if you are saying Knight,Hourihane and Bird are the answer and will give us goals and defensive balance then prepare to be dissapointed I really don't care what the stats say...from what I see ...with my own eyes ....we don't look threatening enough and thats why I'd want a more potent midfielder as well as new striker or 2....I can see one of Bird or Knight being on bench unless Knight plays RWB and in the last year of there contracts so maybe an idea to sell one to get better balance and options ...we need more goals and not just from the strikers

My challenge to Knight or Bird would be can you get 6-10 goals this season , If either done that they'd be seen as getting better and therefore worth more not only to us but others...they are capable players  and this division is not great

I can never understand why it's those three getting all the criticism when it was other areas of the pitch letting us down.

Particularly up front. Despite McGoldrick's goals.

Totally agree Angie, For the record I'm not criticising Bird or Knight but just think for a better balance an attack minded CM would be great but don't want us to overspend  ..Up front we were woeful and in some games we should've been out of sight by HT with better strikers and attacking options  we should hopefully address that this season
