Think McGoldrick will be involved Tuesday to get some minutes in his legs, then bench on Saturday

Can assure you lots is going on. We’ll start to see loans coming in soon as PL clubs start cutting back their squads and loaning out the ‘better’ youngsters

We need another number 9 as cover and to compete with Collins...an out and out centre forward.......we are ok for number 10's.....

I wouldn't be surprised to see at least another 4-5 players in before the end of the window. A couple of them being loans and others will likely have to be free transfers/out of contract players - depending on what we can do within our business plan.
Keeper, right back, striker and wide forward at a minimum. Extra cover in forward areas would be nice to have over a long campaign where you will need to utilise plans B, C and D etc.
Desperately need some competition for Wildsmith and the free options out there are few and far between. Pacy forward options are needed to compliment and give options against what we currently have, these are more likely to be youngsters on loan. Right back is a tricky one, we could do with some experience there.

We need McGoldrick and Collins on the pitch together. Then it works. Collins hasn’t touched the ball because there isn’t / hasn’t been a supplier of passes at the top end of the pitch. Bringing Sibley on changed that the other week because he ran at people between the half way line and the box. McGoldrick makes clever runs and passes in the same position on the field. Our starting trio so far is too central or defensive. The gap between the mids and Collins is too big .. unless you have a Sibley/McGoldrick .. or Hourihan high up

Just come off a long phone call with the lad I know. Sibley allowed to leave if the right bid comes in 2m+ but the price tag has put most people off so expect him to stay. Sean Robertson looking at other options. Rosenior still in constant dialogue with him and his team. 50/50 on wether that goes ahead. Kyle Joseph has stalled as Swansea want rid completely and want a fee. We want a loan with option or a free transfer with large sell on clause. Amadou Diallo didn’t want to join the 23s for a bit so has left for other teams. Told there’s an offer if he wants it as Rosenior rates him highly. Rosenior still wants another 4-5 players with 1xGK 1xRB 1xWinger 2xStrikers. Believe Kev McDonald might be joining the coaching staff instead of the playing staff, but plan remains unchanged with him mentoring Bird and Robinson. Good news is that Rosenior is speaking to many clubs about many different loan options. Villa, West Brom, West Ham, Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea and Sheffield United are ones I know he’s spoken too. The last bit of news is good/bad depending on what you think of Stretton. Told he’s allowed to go on loan with lots of interest from National League and League 2. Expect some exciting loans and hopefully quality signings in the next few weeks ??

He got no service because almost every time Roberts received the ball he came back inside to Cashin who in turn went to Davies who then continued to go right to Knight or NML. My impression was time and again Barkhuisen was in acres of space down the left but the pass on to him was declined. Really enjoyed Saturday but this really frustrated me. Given the service I believe he’ll be a great asset.

Ah here we are again! Been told that Dobbin and Joseph are “pretty much done”. Kevin McDonald being brought into the club to play a similar role to Stearman and McDonald will be mentoring Bird and Robinson and this season will aim for Darren Robinson to be a first teamer. Told Knight won’t leave unless a big bid comes in. Knight doesn’t want to leave but cannot be playing in league 1 for ages. Not 100% confirmed this but apparently there’s a gentleman’s agreement with Knight saying that if we’re not up there in the league he will be allowed to leave. Rosenior is pushing hard for Knight and Bird on new deals too.

Probably doesnt deserve its own thread but seeing as I'm not breaking any rules, who cares. And I'm sure I won't be alone in starting threads like this either.

First and foremost Derby have just won the first game of the season and I am buzzing! The excitement is back! With that in mind I've took some notes based on the game and thought I'd share them.

    The Good:
We have a real sleeping giant of a team. I feel like we barely got out of first gear and bar 1 or 2 moments we were very comfortable against a league 1 side that love to play football.
James Collins (amongst others) will be our new cult hero this year. Plays with his heart on his sleeve, gets about, gets stuck in and seems to have a bit about him in the box aswel. Genuinely feel like he'll motivate those around him just by his tenacity and drive (Think Steve Howard)
Mendez Laing - real force in this league. I feel like he'll have that Wanchope feel to him, frustrating occasionally but overall a quality player, especially for this league.
I could go on but above all, what a feeling to have our club back, the excitement and hearing the fans singing with pride. I've almost forgot the last 18 months even happened I'm so happy.

    The Bad:
    Lack of wing backs.
The only thing I see us truly lacking at the moment in comparison to last season and the previous 8-10 seasons is our marauding wing backs.
At the moment we've got Knight who even tho can play there, is not a rb, and most certainly isn't someone who naturally has blistering pace to over lap and stretch the game out wide, same with Roberts at left back. They do solid jobs, but its not the attacking wing backs that are needed for the 1 striker up front formation.
I feel like if we can address 1 of these positions with a replacement for Byrne/Buchannan - this will give us the edge for how we want to play. We won today, yes, but I think this will help cut teams open and allow our wingers to drop inside and support our CF more, whoever that is.

    The Beautifully Ugly:
I'm not talking about a Haydon Roberts mug shot, I'm talking about our grit! We look like a team that is going to dig in physically when it's needed, which will be often. Yeah the game was scrappy at times but it was good to see us not get thrown off our game and give as good as we got in the battles.

Thank you for today Derby, you've made a ram down in Cornwall very happy.

It’s a good deal all round.
Our current situation means we can’t afford to have him here, and his exit could allow us to bring in a few players.
Birmingham get a quality Championship player, on of the best in the league. If he stays fit they will be fine.
    Poland boss is satisfied.
And Bielik gets to play at a higher level than League One and will likely (if fit) get to go to the World Cup.
It’s just a great deal all round. And hopefully if Derby get promoted we get to see him in a Rams shirt in the Championship in 2023/24.

Works best for all parties, they pay his £30k + a week wages and we can reinvest to fill more gaps.
Not sure why people think Birmingham is a bad move for him, honestly he’s not been fit for a prolonged period of time for years now and is on relatively huge wages. Good player, of course, but a £1.6m plus pay out for a player who hasn’t completed more than half a season in the last 3 is a huge gamble for all Championship clubs. Birmingham are the second favourite to be relegated next season and that’s the only club willing to do it, part of me believes that’s due to the new owners looking to make a splash.
Best case is a Djed Spence type. We have just freed up 20% of our allowed wage bill with this move. I wish him all the best.

Really want us to sign this lad. Looks properly lively. In a makeshift team I thought he was the standout performer. His goal was obviously a thing of beauty, but he also looked calm and effective in defence and he seems to have a deal of technical ability.
In LR we trust, but IMO he'd be a really good addition to a squad for whom another RB is a top priority.

Nah. There is a footballer in him, but how many games over the last 3 seasons has he been a significant influencer. I bet it is less than the fingers on my one hand, and I am neither from Nottingham or Norwich. Free up some wages to sign a few forwards, and a goalkeeper.

He was impressive whenever he got the ball, mostly. One occasion I remember with a stray pass, but other than that looked really tidy. His mentality was to take people on, used his pace well and got in a few decent crosses. He looked a real handful for the first 15 minutes and then we stopped playing it down that side. Came back into the game a lot more in the second half and again looked useful. His goal was very good!

We have a striker who has scored 20 goals at this level in a previous season, the bigger problem in my view is that we have spent a few years now forgetting how to attack effectively.
As others have said, we’ve at least got a squad, it’s stronger in some areas than it is in others but there is a group of professional footballers about to start the season with a ram on their chest, something we came close to losing.
What I am hoping to see from Rosenior (and it’s not really been there yet in pre season) is a return to forward thinking, attacking play. Let’s play to Collins’ strengths, let’s get midfielders pushing and passing forwards, let’s cross the ball in, and let’s actually have some shots.
Rather than focusing on where we’re weaker let’s focus on our strengths, on paper we’ve got a good forward line (yes, currently with no depth) for this league, a very good midfield, and solid central defenders.
I said it yesterday, we’re only a few more players away from the right squad given our restrictive situation. Another option up front, a wide player who can play either side to provide competition and cover for NML and Barkhuizen, a right back, and a keeper.  Gives us a good squad, a bit of depth, there’s versatility in there already and then youth to step in from the academy in desperate times. Too many further additions could upset the balance and leave the squad bloated.

I read in the Guardian that Rosenior has said there will be 4 more.
So my guess would be GK, RB, Winger and a striker.
Hopefully with some quality and hopefully soon.
I think we need a couple more than that that to be honest.

He's 20 years old and would likely be coming in as backup to Collins... any wonderkid loanee would come with the expectation of starting most games so wouldn't fit our brief.
