Sorry I'm just going to add to the above.
I do think all this "virtual betting" needs cutting back with max stakes per day. For the people I've seen addicted, the main go to is virtual slots, virtual racing, virtual roulette where its all been predetermined to make sure you never come out on top in the long run. I remember seeing a lad in the bookies with his £400 cash meant for some bill. Playing slots and was upto £1000 up... He was that addicted that winning just didn't seem enough, he walked out with out the £1000 profit or £400 he walked in with that day. And I saw the look in his eyes of despair.
So I don't agree with a complete ban, but there should be limits on how much a betting company can take off you on a predetermined event.

I have no idea with physical machines, they've lowered the stakes, maybe they need throttling so you can't bet so much per spin/min? I know in the past someone could burn through £100's in a very short space of time. Maybe slow down how fast it can be lost?
Online, companies could have limits imposed that could be spent on virtual events. Of course it doesn't stop someone signing up for multiple sites, it may help though?

It's a difficult one and it's very easy to say it should be banned when you read heartbreaking stories. I myself have an addictive personality and have my own issues as a youngster with gambling and drugs amongst other things. I remember a specific moment being told about a dead cert and putting everything I had in my account on it chasing money I'd spent elsewhere.
But I found the issue was ultimately me, my personality and my own flaws.
Maybe some limitations might help making it so normal and easily accessible? But at some point I think individuals have to take some personal responsibility. Otherwise everyone will need everything controlled, alcohol, junk food, shopping habits, porn etc. All can lead to addiction and all can have severe consequences.
I don't want that to come across as insensitive and I feel for the original poster and the poor guys family and friends.
That's just my view, which is of course, one of many different ones. I don't know if my view is right, skewed by my own experiences. Maybe I still blame myself for a past me instead of outside factors, I don't know.

Firstly, total respect for what the OP is trying to do, that's an absolute tragedy and a needless loss of a young life.

Ultimately I think you can only make these decisions on a very much personal level as it affects you. I understand that in these cash strapped times that clubs will grab whichever is the biggest offer and I wouldn't boycott games or anything if we went down that route again.
That said, I really really hope that we can buck the trend and find another source of money because betting does seem to have a stranglehold on sponsorship. I have watched that Clowes interview and he mentions 'integrity' a number of times. He is clearly looking to reset the relationship with the EFL and regardless of what has happened to this point, I think that is the right thing to do. I do wonder if he has a strong personal preference as to the sort of company that he wants to deal with re sponsorship though. The process is certainly not being rushed.

It's easy for a club to turn down gambling sponsorships when they are a global brand, huge in Asia, receive large sums of money playing in the Premier League and Champions League.
They received £162m last season from the Premier League alone, up £14m from the season before.
That money could have bought this club three times over in the summer.
Let's not forget, even if we were to ban gambling sponsors on the front of our shirts, they will still have the Skybet patches on the sleeves and all over the league branding around the ground and on the pitch.
Sorry for your loss @whestonram, really don't want to be seen as being insensitive here, just looking at the reality of the situation where it's difficult for clubs to turn their back on the best offers compared to clubs such as Liverpool which was mentioned above.
Ideally football would be in a better state where clubs could choose sponsors that fit the club rather than who pays the most.

(Just to avoid confusion, this was @BaaLocks’s post which Unlucky Alf responded to. )

Jimmy Carr probably shouldn’t have told this joke, even to his own fans who pay for exactly this; because it was inevitable that some people hearing it would think it was intended to be anti-Roma. I don’t think it was at all. It was a subtle joke about political correctness, prejudice (against Jews as well as Roma), about listener expectations and more, all brilliantly packed into about 3 sentences.

But these days it was bound to get him into trouble.

If the money had gone through, and he became Derbys new owner...
What would it mean for the club if it then turned out months later, that money was investment funds and CK had no right to use. If criminal charges etc were brought against him.
Would he be forced to sell like Man City's old Thai owners?
I hate to think of the mess that might have followed if that happened

Staying here wasn't an option if he wants to play in World Cup.
Birmingham isn't that bad an option for us, last thing we want is for him to go to a team performing well, enjoy it, and want to stay!
Hopefully he plays for them, they go down despite his magnificent performances and he comes back to us in the championship with a decent season under his belt

*** Two tickets for the Oxford match ***
I have two tickets for the match (1 x adult, 1 x 6-12 year-old) available. They are together in the North Stand. I can't get there now due to car trouble.
If nobody wants them on here I'll contact the club or the Rams Fans Trust I saw on this forum.
They are free to a good home - feel free to make a donation to charity if you wish. I trust that whoever takes them won't just sell them for a quick profit. I'm sure people on here wouldn't do that!
Not sure how best to forward the tickets (they are hard copy) and I am NW based so we'll have to cross that bridge as and when.
If I hear nothing back by 9am tomorrow (Friday) I'll explore other options.
( @David - I assume this is okay to post as it's a genuine attempt to get two more Rams into PP to support the team rather than someone looking to turn a profit on face value? If not then please let me know and I'll delete this post).

So conclusive proof that Toyota went black in the run up to the Brighton game, on 12th December 2015.

    Hello friends,
I hope this thread finds you all well on this warm Sunday afternoon.
As a club, we were strong supporters of the "Save Derby County" campaign as we strongly believe no fan base or community should have to face losing their football team and we were overjoyed when our friends at Clowes UK came to the rescue. Clowes UK sponsor Matlock Town including our away strip so it's fantastic to all be part of the same football family.
To celebrate the continued links, The Proctor Cars Stadium will be hosting Derby County on Friday 29th July with a 7:45pm kick off. It promises to be a fantastic evening of celebrations as the Gladiators will wear our Clowes UK away strip for the first time ever, the Clowes UK Cup will be up for grabs and they will be in attendance and we get to celebrate together the saving and hopefully thriving existence of the club you all love.
Tickets are available now via the following link - https://matlocktownfc.ktckts.com/event/mtl2223hpre3/matlock-town-v-derby-county-u-21s
We are hoping for 2300 sell out which we believe can be made possible by two fantastic fan bases. We were encouraged by Rams fans on Twitter to add a donation ticket option for those who want to help us out but are unable to attend for one reason or another.
As a community based non league team which doesn’t have a wealthy owner we rely solely on our community to fund the club whether through gate receipts, sponsorship or donations. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all who took the time to read this post and we hope to see you this coming Friday.

I honestly think after reading that article, that he has transferred the money out his company "investing" account, of which he only has access.
He's got this money sitting in his account or a holding account which he has shown as proof
He's gone to transfer millions, money laundering has asked more questions, he's got cold feet as its not really his own personal wealth.
I think his crypto story is fabricated as he knows it's impossible for anyone to verify it.

Sounds like he has investment, into an account only he can access.
He then buys a jet, lavish lifestyle etc
He's just using investors money for his own lifestyle? So that's how he proved his funds maybe?
Did he have to back out when it became apparent he'd have to tell the authorities the money was from his company, and those investors?

I agree, if a player want's to continue to play at the highest level he can and doesn't want to drop down, fair enough, it's his career.
But he has to go about it the correct way, not try some back handed "loophole" to try and get out of his contract.
All he had to do was put a transfer request in.

That would be more than covered by the 2 million quid we'd get for them.  Play hardball with Byrne, stop his wages for refusing to do the job he's contracted for, shove him in the U23's. legal action. Put the boot up his arse that far his back teeth rattle. By the end of August he'll be waiving his signing on fee to get a move and we get a fee.  The clubs been hammered enough externally so internally can't be tolerated.
Legal papers for Buchanan and the a holes he's moved to as well

I did of course explain the free transfers, not a penny spent on fees, EFL approval within business plan, salary cap, season ticket sales, 22,000 plus gates, premier league facilities attracting top players out of contract….… etc. etc. but nope, didn’t believe it, “Hourihane is a premier league player and wouldn’t take such a pittance, we should get FFP penalties…….” ?
