Carl Sagan got a reaction from Gypsy Ram in Apple
Will that ever happen? (seriously - I have no idea on that)
And even if it could, what's not to love about android and it's cusomisability and free apps? Doesn't a techie lad like yourself not feel constrained in the straitjacket of iOS? And isn't Apple's closed ecosystem a betrayal of the Web - philosophically surely open source is the way to be? And even Macworld admits of Google Assistant vs Siri "its capabilities seem far more advanced thanks to contextual understanding of language that allows follow up questions to initial queries": http://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/iosapps/siri-vs-google-assistant-3659249/
A problem for Apple is that if you want to do amazing interesting work in the California tech industry that might change the world you'll be at Google or Tesla or SpaceX or similar. Or else you could go to Apple and do a tiny tweak on how an Apple watch works. So they don't have the calibre of people for genuine innovation any more.

Carl Sagan reacted to Day in Apple
Apples ecosystem is what I love, everything just works together.
Evernote, Spotify, Chrome.....don’t need it, take an iPhone out the box and it has a browser, notes, music streaming app that all works great. iCloud, the ability to handover from phone to iPad to iMac instantly and flawlessly is perfection.
I have zero interest in the customisable options Android offers but one, micro SD slot that’s it. Show me a Android users phone and I will probably vomit at their theme and font choice, looks like a 2 year old has been let loose with their mums make up bag.
I have zero interest in moving backwards to a Windows PC and trawling through 3rd party apps to achieve the same when Apple has it right there.
I only use Siri to turn lights on, set a reminder, send a message or use it as a calculator. All works fine. Keep hearing how great Google assistant is yet I have a Google Home collecting dust now as 50% of the time it doesn’t listen and I end up using Siri.

Carl Sagan reacted to BobbyD in Random stuff that people do that annoy me
Couldn't agree more. An instant turn off to developing a new contact. Feels like being approached by a religious fanatic.
What about this other recent one : "Get my back"
Its hard to be enthused by people in the business world so keen to embrace the latest fashionable management gobbledegook. Why can't they just speak plain English ?

People who "reach out" to you. This idiotic expression began in America a few years ago and bizarrely has now crossed the Atlantic. If you use it, there are no words I have for you that would make it past the swear filter.

Carl Sagan reacted to Srg in Forum Issues
If anyone's getting offended of being facepalmed then:
a) stop saying stupid things to warrant a facepalm
b) ban them for being so sensitive.

I'd like the facepalm back, and the addition of a new emoji of a woosh going over somebody's head. Make it so.

Carl Sagan reacted to Rev in Rate the last film you saw partie deux
Its a very hard film to describe, certainly not the film i thought it would be, and more powerful for it.
Its certainly the only time I've watched a film and had to compose myself a good while after, yet I couldn't really say why!

Just come out of the cinema after paying £17.50 to watch Dunkirk at the Imax.
Worth double, easily one of the top 5 films I've ever seen, needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible.
10/10.

Carl Sagan reacted to Cam the Ram in January Transfer Suggestion Thread
I've seen quite a few (notably @Carl Sagan ) mention they'd like Bogle here. Rotherham have apparently just bid 350k for him. Cheap option if Martin isn't able to return.

Carl Sagan reacted to cannable in January Transfer Suggestion Thread
Ahhhh Ulloa.
Always reminds me of summer 2014, went for £8,000,000 back when that was eye watering having scored 14 league goals the year previous and yet we somehow would only be getting about £9,000,000 for Martin had Pearson had his way!

Carl Sagan got a reaction from RiddingsRam in January Transfer Suggestion Thread
No one picked up on my idea of going for young lower league striking talent in Bogle. I see that yesterday he was linked with the Gumps and apparently also with the dirties: http://www.nottinghampost.com/are-nottingham-forest-chasing-top-scorer-in-english-football/story-29949762-detail/story.html
I would rather we tried to get players like him cheaply and put them in the U23s (who it's vital stay in the top flight this season so need a striker with Zanzala's ACL injury) in the hope we can bring them through, rather than wait for another Championship team to pick them up (like Nakhi Wells) and then have people suggest we should spend £10m on him.

Last night i drove to the airport to pick up friends returning from Spain. i really like watching people reunited, the joy and love there for all to see, while blissfully unaware of anyone else around. Brings a smile to face every time.

Carl Sagan reacted to Stive Pesley in Random stuff that cheers me up thread
I've been wanting to start this thread for ages
As the "Random stuff that annoys me thread" reaches 100+ pages, it is pretty clear that we could solve the world's energy crisis if we somehow harnessed man's natural ability to complain about things.
So, as one poster accused me of having "no balance" I thought I'd try and tip the scales of karma and start this one up as well. Let's see if it is just as popular?
So I will start with an easy one.
When you read through a lengthy online debate and you disagree with what people are saying, so you stick your neck out and say something - get a torrent of abuse back - and then suddenly someone you don't know pops up and agrees with you. Immediately restoring both your faith in humanity and the thought that you may be going mad.

Swallows and Amazons 8/10
Took my mum as it seemed the best bet for someone 70+ at the cinema. Absolutely superb film structure and writing .Back to a different time. Don't think I read the books. Thought I might be bored, but in fact it was excellent and compelling from start to finish.
And an example that parents should let their kids go off and play so they can actually grow up, rather than not letting them out of their sight for the first 18 years.
