I swear Warne (or Pearce?) said we had a long list of CF options. After finding out the wage/fee demands, the list was reduced to just 3 (or 4?) on deadline day. We agreed everything with 1 of them, then at 8pm their manager or owner decided to cancel the move.

I don’t doubt there are reasons why we didn’t get someone in. But it was an essential that we did. Leaving it until 8pm on the last day not the best idea maybe.

I remember in the not too distant past, Hughes andn Bryson both getting injured and MM going out and panic buying Butterfield and Johnson on deadline day.

If I recall correctly, with hindsight our fans were saying how ridiculous it was...

Only the prices paid were ridiculous, the idea of replacing injured players not so much.

So you think he should have been preparing for Waghorn, Washington, John Jules and Collins all to be injured?

Who are these freebies that will do a better job than Barkhuizen, NML or CBT up top?

Seeing as waghorn and Washington were already injured and then John Jules got injured with days left in the window then yes I’d suggest we should be preparing for that.

Collins is 32,33. Expecting him to play 90 minutes for the rest of the season was crazy. Likewise as a team chasing promotion you’d probably want a striker to bring off the bench if chasing a game, or even fresh legs if winning to to see it out.
warne obviously agreed as was trying to sign a striker.

We should have had three or four options at least and been able to get one over the line on deadline day.

To quote Simon Jordan...That is absolute Poppycock.

If he does his job properly and prepares accordingly, he would have found someone to improve us within the set budget.

There are footballers beyond the top 3 divisions in England.

The fact Collins is injured as our only fit striker was something we all worried about, we didn’t need someone to improve the team. Although that be ideal

just a striker to play would be ideal at this point. Is Dwight Gayle still an option?

  5. Ground it out well today, thought ward and Bradley had their best games for us. Didn’t hate 5 at the back for a change either. Bird had a good game as well.

hourihane had a shocker and Thompson when he came on. Certainly some good grit and fight about the team though.

back it up with a home win next week now.

Would Georgie Kelly improve us? Would he want to sit on our bench? Maybe he has joined Carlisle to play first team football?

Chris Martin? Was he ever likely to leave Bristol Rovers where he is scoring goals and playing first team football and obviously enjoying living in the city? He would have come here and had to prove himself to the manager and would have had to work his way into the team. Again, would he have jumped at that chance? Not convinced.

It’s easy to say X, Y, Z were available but we have the easy job of sitting on the sofa, not dealing with all types of variables.

I think if Collins gets injured in the next month then pretty much any striker improves us at that point?

For me they were the favourites before any new signings, he just makes them better.

Yeah I keep hearing how January is a tough window, everyone wants a striker etc. Collins be a great signing for us. Genuinely unsure what excuses we’ll have when restrictions expire in the summer.

I’d say he’s more likely to be committed than if we didn’t sell him now & loan him back.

A strong 50/50 on the halfway line which leads to a potential injury just a few months until he’s a free agent, potentially leaving him injured and without a club?

He’s sorted his medium-term future whilst still being involved in a promotion battle. I don’t think you get to the stage of being a professional footballer if you don’t have the mentality of being committed at a stage of the season like this.

I’ve seen him s*** out of loads of tackles whilst a derby player, wouldn’t expect that to change!

don’t mind him, never kicked on though. Should have been running games in this division, wasn’t at all. Little to no improvement in last few years. Good luck to him.

Peterborough have recalled the ex chesterfield striker I have a funny feeling JCH will be the player by 11pm

I’d be very happy with this compared to smith or Gregory.

was talk of Charlton for about £300k? Would be worth that

Before we get too exited . Remember we are losing £3-£6 million a season and we have too be careful. Didn’t see us spend the Jason Knight money .

I know, that’s why I don’t get some people’s slow progression option. Getting out of this league the quickest way to being profitable.
Ultimately we can’t be afraid of transfers though, it’s a huge part of football.

I think someone mentioned a tribunal fee in the summer and that was around £2mil based on how many games he’s played. I’m surprised we’ve got that much for him if true to be honest.

I just hope we haven’t left it too late to use some of that much needed cash, and also aren’t going to be chucking a portion of that to Wednesday just to borrow one of their players for 3 months.

Yeah if is around £2m I’d be happy! Probably best time for all parties too.

lets get langstaff or Clarke Harris in!
