  1. Looking through West Brom’s retained list, they have a huge amount of players out of contract and been offered or released.

karlan grant is one that caught my eye though, returning to them from a loan spell. Think could be a good option for a loan, doubt would cost much at the end of it.

Attacking players by their very nature struggle to get into games at times, though? It applies to almost every single attacking player in the Football League and 80% of the Premier League - essentially anyone who isn't playing at an elite level.

My frustration was the limited amount of time Sibley was afforded to his peers. It always felt like he needed to score or assist in every game without the threat of being dropped. It created a bad environment for him to develop IMO. It happens, of course, not always the best players at academy level continue the progression through to senior football. I really do feel like with Sibs we have really dropped the ball, obviously that's my subjective opinion, but above all else I want to see him progress and settle somewhere. I don't think that's at Rotherham (personally) but it's arguably not under Warne at Derby either.

Yeah but the amount they drop out of games varies. Mcgoldrick for example played as a 10 for us, was always involved and even if wasn’t you got the sense that he had a goal in him. The managers job was to get us in the play offs or promoted, extra time for sibley to find form wasn’t really an option.

Too often with sibley when having a poor game he’s the obvious sub. Invariably he’d then play well off the bench, get a start and not really back it up.

Same as you, i hope he finds a spot and shows his true potential. Agree it’s probably not at derby for Warne. It’s not just Warne not picking him though. Rooney barely ever started him when we had very few options.

the full back/wing back option from Warne might turn out to be the best thing for sibley.

Much more productive? I’m not sure I would’ve used that term. Sibley is more impactful than Bird, albeit is more inconsistent but that’s probably due in large part to his lack of consistent game time in his correct position which we can all agree has been detrimental overall to his development.

I think purely from a commercial stand point that the opportunity to add a 22 year old who has a very decent attacking record in the Championship already on a free transfers, if we have offered him reduced terms, will ensure that he is at least a championship player next season.

When playing CM or AM, transfermrkt has his record 112 games and 46 goal contributions at all levels. Obviously that takes into account academy games too, but still begs the question with that kind of record wasn’t he afforded more time at first team level to prove he can/can’t do it.

For me, I just want to see him succeed at this point. I feel his development has been impacted significantly by the people at the club since Cocu left because watching him during his academy days it was very apparent just how special of a player he was and he showed that when he burst on the scene. I do think given time and opportunities that he can showcase his ability but feel that what he could’ve been is one of the biggest ‘what ifs’ that I’ll carry with me as a Derby fan.

Of course he’s more productive than bird as you mention, he plays a lot further forward. He obviously has ability but do you agree he struggles to get involved in games at times?

the other issue I think is that when has a poor game is almost impossible to leave on as is like playing with ten.

i like him as a player, he gets shots off and has quality on the ball. But he’s not quick, not particularly strong either. Maybe this wasn’t highlighted as much in academy football but feel there is a large enough body of work from mens football to use that as the sample now.

I could be totally wrong, but isn't it the case that if he's on £X and we offer him less than £X, he leaves on a free? While if we offer at least £X, then we collect a transfer fee?

My expectation is there will end up being a bit of an auction for Louie, and he'll move to a top m Championship or low end Premier League club. As Warne won't play him where he wants to play. He won't go to League One.

I’d be amazed with premier league move.  He struggles to get involved in games, that be so much harder for a low end prem team.

Actually think being objective a move is way sibley needs, Coventry being a good one for example.

Would love it to happen at Derby but just can’t see it.

  5. Agree with people who say is not just about wages, the position he plays and how often should be a big part at his age.
think at derby we’re almost past seeing him as a 10, personally don’t rate him left wing at all. Leave full back or wing back. dropping deeper into midfield could be an option.

lot of questions for him to think about

We may have 3 wingers, but when he plays his 352 formation..we dont have wingers..just wing backs like Ward or Wilson on the right or Sibley on the left.

Not only dont NML, CBT or Barks fit that system, but neither do Nyambe or Elder..just saying..he needs to either play 343 or go to 4 at the back..much better idea imo...

I’ve always thought 4 at the back suited us better, although I did work pretty well in last few games.

nyambe could be the right sided cb with Nelson in the middle.

elder I’m not sure has much to offer us next season, struggled in league one.

nelson and cashin always looked rock solid as a two. Warne likes Bradley though.

  7. Getting bored of the restrictions talk, we almost make excuses for ourselves before a ball is kicked.

every team is trying to sign good players, the parachute teams hard to compete with. But the relegated three next season far weaker than this year.

we’ve just been a big fish as such in league one, despite restrictions had biggest budget. Now we enter a more level playing field.

  8. Think goals is the most valuable commodity in football, if we found a prem loan who just caught fire. Like a tammy Abraham at Bristol city. Even Harry Wilson for his time. Think scored 20 for us.

turning defeats into draws and draws into wins when not playing great is how you pinch above your weight.

combine that with a steady defence which I think we all hope we have.

the other thing I’d want is options, have nine subs. Having three or four players that can come on and affect a game is huge if pushing for a goal.

Of course, I was effectively saying the same that we are really an unknown and potentially 12 to 14 players of our first 20 man squad opening day aren’t at the club. It’s unlikely that everyone we sign is a success too, more so that typically one in every three signings can be seen as a success - it’s a huge job for the club.

We are lucky in one sense that we have a completely blank slate to work upon, but possibly left ourselves too much work.

Agree, feels good to have no real dead weight as such at the club. Think everyone contracted can play a part.

think loans from the prem are a huge part of championship sides, although the fees for them loans seem to be rising all the time.

You could well argue that, as of this very moment with the players contracted to the club, we are the weakest team in the league. The expectation is we are going to be in a relegation battle with 8-10 different clubs even with significant investment. The hope is that we can smash recruitment out the park and potentially give ourselves a chance to look up rather than down, but it’s no easy task and everyone is looking to get ahead.

£100 that Derby get relegated or finish top half.. I would say the former is more likely to happen.

Is zero point basing it on players at the club now, this season I think Millwall finished top half and were relegation threatened with about five games left. Is not much of a gap between the two areas.

not much you can do on recruitment other than wait and see!

Other than his time with us his career since 2016 has been spent in the championship?

not bad for league 1 at best!!!

Yeah I thought was harsh, been decent the last couple of years. Has ups and downs but generally been a good signing. Have three wingers now, nml, barks and cbt. Hopefully get another one in and see who wins the shirts

Transfer window isn't open to be able to announce signings of contracted players, so you will have a bit of a wait

No, but signings can be announced. Just can’t be registered to play which is no issue at all.

stoke signing the keeper we were linked with for example

I think he could have offered us something if we were still in League 1, but the Championship is probably too big a step

Is a total guess really, none of us seen him play enough. Warne looking at him pre season hopefully

Other than Boro and Bristol City having a higher wage bill in the last set of accounts. There's also West Brom, who still had parachute payments in their last released set of accounts, so it's difficult to judge how much they've since reduced their wage bill.

Don’t think stoke can spend what they like now, years of poor decisions have made manoeuvring difficult financially. They sack a manager a season, then have about ten unwanted players to keep paying.

Souttar was sold to Leicester 18 months ago for a good fee and that gave them room with ffp. They’re not in a good position though. Coates family will always fund the club unlike Mel, but this is reason they never trouble the top half and unlikely to do so anytime soon

    Honestly mate, no idea.

When I was told yesterday morning I was surprised.

I guessed at money or personal reasons. Not sure where his wife is from?

But he's from Sheffield, he's been playing week in week out for the last 2 years (something he's not had before) so he's close to home to.

Then I thought well I wonder if we've offered him a new deal but no guarantees he's number one. But Pompey have Norris (who got in team of the season) so I'm not sure he'll be number one there either.

Genuinely though I'm not bothered. Decent keeper. But nothing special.

Made some good saves, but also dropped some absolute clangers.

Agree on this, first six months with the club was brilliant. Barely made an error, then a few crept in towards end of last season. Didn’t seem to have the same presence this year. Made some great saves in the run in though!

I'm going to crack and reply to this because it's such BS.

How is it forced on us?   Answer is it's not.   It's on TV for those that want to watch.   I couldn't give a **** about cricket, rugby or NFL but I just don't watch it I don't claim it's being forced on me

Yes womens football is subsidised - just as 99% of mens football is including DCFC.   Show me a womens club that has been subsidised as much as Man City men, Chelsea men etc.

it is a bit heavy handed, you can’t turn off any notifications for it. I don’t really care if Arsenal sign a Barcelona striker for example!

the coverage on sky or bbc doesn’t reflect the reality of fans opinions to the women’s game.

cricket, rugby etc have their own channels. Women’s football doesn’t, because as soon as is totally separate from men’s any viewership will drop off a cliff.

    hourihane

    smith

forsyth - to be offered some type of coaching

    new contract offered

    Thompson

    collins

    sibley

    barks

Contract offered to 3-4  out of contract players including these I’ve had confirmed

    Burrows

    Herbie Kane

    Tyrese Campbell

Would be happy with this, seemed like Wildsmith on his way for a while.

Smith I wouldn’t have minded being back up for Adams but won’t lose any sleep over.

going to be a hugely different team come August.

Langstaff is like Billy Sharp. He might struggle to lead the line for us on his own, but if the price is right he would be a good buy. And will find a way to score quite a lot of goals. A striking collection of Langstaff, Collins, Brown and an other (Louie Barry?) would start to look tasty. All giving the opposition different problems. But Brown is the one with the highest ceiling and the potential to become a formidable main striker at the top level. How do we get him to realize that, and in the way that's best for Derby County?

Barrie is a great shout, saw Stockport looking to sign him permenantly so would hope be very feasible financially for us.

Nothing to do with finances then with Knight and Bird, who along with Cashin, were the only sellable assets we had?

And we’ll ignore Adams being a roaring success in midfield!

and that sibley barely if ever played in midfield.
