I'm saying Extinction Rebellion is not about climate change - that's a facade - and you seem to be agreeing with me that it's instead simply an anti-establishment movement.
Here's the founder of Extinction Rebellion, Gail Bradbrook, in her own words explaining she was always into "mass social disobedience" and initially tried to start an animal rights movement and then a nonpayment-of-tax movement. Then she went to Costa Rica for two weeks and took a shedload of drugs. She came home to the UK, ended her marriage and separated from her family, and met the other founder Roger Hallam who "is an academic who specialised in radical campaign design". https://www.whatisemerging.com/opinions/psychedelics-and-social-change
Co-founder Roger Hallam was studying for a PhD in civil disobedience at King's College and came up with the branding. In his words, "It seemed enormously clear to me that the most effective way to bring about rapid political change was mass, non-violent civil disobedience". Again he's interested in political change, not climate change. He continues, "I did a paper called Pivoting to the Real Issue in January 2013, which proposes that we create a rebellion against the British government on civil resistance principles and that led to the foundation of Extinction Rebellion ... the plan for XR took about a year and a half of research and conversations, so it didn’t come out of nowhere. It wasn’t like Occupy where there was no pre-organisation. We had twenty or thirty people involved in designing a modern social movement." https://metacpc.org/en/hallam/
These aren't nice people. He's loathed in Germany for his dismissal of the Holocaust: https://www.dw.com/en/opinion-extinction-rebellion-nothing-matters-to-this-doomsday-cult/a-51355706
With your additional questions you also seem to be advocating for an anti-establishment revolution, similarly with nothing to do with climate change. The reason for the high energy bills you mention are nothing whatsoever to do with climate change. If I've misunderstood your post then you seem to be making the error of logic I pointed out in my earlier post that, just because climate change is having an effect on the UK doesn't mean what we do in the UK can have an effect on climate change.
Do we have a functioning democracy? That's surely a whole other question.

This is doing nothing for my decades-long ongoing argument with the wife about whether we’re northern or not. My argument is that we’re not because the clue’s in the name, “midlands”, middle. Us being seemingly banished from the West Midlands now leaves me questioning just where the actual f*** we are after all! ?
Its a tough call either way, yam yams to the south of us, Mancs and Scousers to the north of us, and the f***ing Welsh to the west…?
This must be what it feels like to be Israeli!

"smart" watches. Why? It's like voluntarily giving yourself an electronic tag for no benefit. Just so you can be farmed for more of your data.

You can get Radio Derby on freeview TV, Channel 735, but I'm not sure if there are geographical limitations

In the match thread @Addingham Ramsays there's commentary on TalkSport 2 which is great for those of us far beyond the Radio Derby catchment area.

Cars (the transport, not the Gary Numan song). Just been somewhere with a mate of mine and he has an £80k vehicle, it was nice - no debate - but my car is worth about £10k and his was probably twice as nice, OK let's be generous and say three. Still missing £50k in that assessment for something that sits unused for more than twenty hours a day.

    (Expensive) watches.
Provided a debatably exciting function that has now been superceded by phones etc.  Been bought them and not worn them (unless its a cheap stop watch for running) otherwise I dont wear them and don't have any interest in them.

I thought this until I found myself working in Coventry, then Birmingham, then Warwick, then down South, then in Bristol etc and couldn't find decent cream cakes for birthdays etc to take into the office. Birds is something to be proud of IMO.

However, to answer the thread..... Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Nero etc. Five Guys burgers, Christmas, Strictly Come Dancing, Adulthood.

My first contribution will be controversial and I've got my tin hat on ready.
    Birds Bakery
Now, it's a perfectly good bakers. They make good products but nothing out of this world. Its overpriced and there is always a massive queue. The last sentence suggests I'm in a minority.
I don't think it's bad just not deserving of the adulation that is bestowed upon it.

Morning squad. I've been radio silence on here the last few months for two reasons:
I can't add anything on the situation between just sorrow I've been working on something new For those who don't know and for those who don't care (understandable, no complaints from me) I produced a book called Pride in 2020, which went into the last 20 or so years of the club. That was nice, but the issue is that for those 20 years we were pretty awful. So I wanted to work on something new and a bit more feel good. And so...
I'm really, really pleased to say that my next book will go live in Autumn of this year and it's titled: Groundwork: The Inside Story Behind Jim Smith's Derby County.
Just like Pride, it's told from the behind the scenes perspective of those incredible few years and includes insight from around 60 former players, coaches and staff members at the club. From Igor, Eranio and Sturridge, through to Steve's McClaren and Round, it delves into what made that time so special. But more than this it focuses on the work of Jim as a manager and crucially, as a man. I've spoken with the creators of Prozone, the first sports psychologist in British football, the first fitness coach in the game, to evaluate how pivotal Derby (yes, Derby) were in the evolution of football in this country. And there is also a section remembering Jim himself, including thoughts from his family, as well as close friends like Harry Redknapp and Howard Wilkinson. There's even a Graham Richards cameo or two.
I know there's a lot of continuing nightmares around us at the minute, but hopefully this brings a bit of joy and memories of what this club can be. ?

After another few days back in Derby it’s time to start heading south. I’ve found out more about my family roots  in the last 2 days than I have in the last 15 years. It’s been humbling the way relatives and complete strangers have treated us especially Saturday night in Micklover. And it looks like I have scored a couple more season ticket holders for the club after taking them along to the game and then hitting the town afterwards. Enjoy your Saturday arvo games!
Pride Park Saturday, luckily I had a 14 year old interpreter telling me what Leicester were singing.

I also saw them many times circa 1988/89 as @Stive Pesley. I was chasing about seeing James, The Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Bridewell Taxis, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, The High, Northside, Cud, Paris Angels, Verve etc and loved every minute of it.
I first saw Happy Mondays at the Aberdeen Venue supporting James on October 14th 1988 Ticket £3.50. They bashed them songs out, and then Bez and Shaun walked off the front of the stage into the crowd and wandered around asking myself included, if anyone had any blow. I still have the fanzine from the gig Halycon Daze ISH ONE, the Aberdeen Alternative Festival Programme and the james chain mail from the gig tucked away in one of many ticket stub files, the ones that survived all the debauchery.
    RIP Paul.

Yeah, agree with most of that. I just think worrying about a few mega rich elites virture signalling misses the point that on a global scale, most of us in the uk are relatively rich.
I did a few maths from that BBC chart, and whilst the top 1% contribute a whopping 18% of emmisions, the top 2 to 9% produce 33%.
If you were living in Bangladesh and watching the rising tides, you probably wouldn't distiguish between a celebrity flying around in a private jet, or a british homewner being crucified by a small amount of their total tax going to green inititavies.
I think XR are targeting the right people. It's just easy for us to say our votes and spending power mean nothing and it's all the elite's fault. Most if whom we've put in power by electing them and buying their products.

Yes - because as this thread repeatedly shows, people would rather get angry about protesters minimally disrupting their lives than they would get angry about the fact that humanity is on a crash course to extinction.
Things only change when people get angry enough to demand change

China, India, Brazil are just 3 countries that are sticking their fingers up and saying...up yours, Lets just say we the UK get to zero by 2050, But China and India are still pumping out a colossal amount of fossil fuels, The results of them still burning and the smoke will still go up in the air and circulate around the world.
China and India supply a massive amount of our consumables, What do our companies do...tell them to go fourth, Yesterday and today, I went out running/walking at 5-30am...stuck inside all day these last 2 days, Those Children who come after me(Grandchildren of 11-8)are going to inherit an overpopulated earth that will eventually end in War ?‍♀️
