I’m astonished by the title of this thread. I haven’t read the opening post because of editorial reasons ? but to me, to not blame the guardian of this football club is laughable.
I assume he thought we would be in the Premier League by now and out of the EFL’s jurisdiction so sailing close to the wind would have little or no consequences.
I have no doubt Morris had very good intentions for this club and I’ll hold my hands up, I truly believed his ownership/leadership was a good thing, but then, I was under the impression the club would be run in a responsible manner. How wrong was I ?
Say what you like about goalposts being shifted by the EFL, but if we’d compiled our accounts like the majority of other clubs instead of being smart arses, discovering loopholes and congratulating ourselves on how clever we’d been, this catastrophe (and that’s what it is) would have been avoided.
Remember the times Morris couldn’t keep his trap shut ? Appearing at forums, TalkSport, EMT, taking in all the adulation of the supporters ? Now we’re up the creek not a duckin’ peep out of the bloke.
Don’t blame Morris an Pearce ? The sooner they’ve gone the better this club will be, our reputation is shot to pieces and the playing side of things ? Don’t get me started on that and it’s down to two people who, it transpires, aren’t as clever as they think they are.

So if Mel was not a Derby fan, would he be treated differently, just an opinion but i will never forgive what Mel has done to the fans club, this is my opinion on the  situation, Mel mught be a great bloke, but he has upset me how he has left Derby in such a great mess,

Quite honestly a portion of blame needs to be put at the door of all the parties involved. The EFL for pursuing a vendetta and not doing their job competently in the first place leading to post facto rules being imposed upon us- hounding us through the courts until they eventually got their judgement whilst letting more egregious cases in the past sail onto the premier league.
However, pretending Mel and Pearce are blameless in this is borderline lobotomy thinking. They've been playing around with the accounts because we've been spending money we haven't really got and it's led us to this point of absolute financial disaster that is crippling the club. At the same time, Morris has managed to alienate big players in the league and our governing body to the point they're sending out press releases with alternative fixture lists of us going down. It's just further representation of how absolutely dire that man's ownership of this club has been.

we can all say duck the efl and yes they're a poorly run organisation that are going off the rails but Mel's also put us into this position. I imagine it's become an absolute battle of wills and the collateral damage is the financial and football health of this institution.

I appreciate that is what he has tried to do, but he has failed with that miserably. We used almost no acumen in the market and spent like crazy to try and compete. We have been leap frogged by most of the clubs in the league who dont have parachute payments despite spending more than them and they havent had to play with their accounting.
Its sad to see because Mel does care... he and pearce are just not very good at running a football club unfortunately.

The root of this is the stupid acceptance by the EFL that relegated clubs from the PL can rely on 4 years worth of parachute payments that ensure they have the unfair advantage of retaining or buying the best players thus disadvantaging others in the league who don't benefit from this unfair income. Mel has tried his hardest to circumnavigate his way around this grossly unfair system in an effort to make us competitive.

When Mel bought the majority share of the club we we had finished third, had a manager proven at a higher level, a young hungry squad with some real talent.
We finished last season and would have been relegated if everyone started on the same points, a talentless squad made up of over hyped academy players and far past it senior players. The club no longer owns its stadium and we have a manager with no experience and one of the worst records in recent history.
To me that is terrible and we have the right to question that.
I struggle to see where the EFL are to blame in that beyond a change in accounting policy.

This saga now just comes across as a vindictive face-saving exercise by the EFL and payback for all Mel's sniping at them over the years. We've made it easy for them by streching and bending the rules - giving them a convenient stick to beat us with.
You're not telling me that we accidentally used an accounting practice that no other club uses and then failed to highlight it properly in our submitted paperwork.
Mel & everyone else at DCFC thought they were cleverer than the EFL, which probably is the case but if you continually tread on the beast's tail, you're gonna get bitten at some point.

Yeah, the EFL might be wanting to see a proof of funds but if they are demanding the money itself that's a bit odd.
My take is it was probably BS.

Paul Mcgrath, remember him. Was 37 when we signed him and he won poty that season.
He couldn't train because of his dodgy knees too.

Fair enough on your opinion, my opinion is that Mel Morris spent £200 million of his own money supporting various managers wants and unfortunately most of that has been spent on average players with little sell on reality which results in our situation. All of that is a big shame which has been sprinkled with some bad luck at just the wrong moments but we are where we are.

Why will administration be right round the corner?
The only person /persons that can put the club into administration is Mel Morris, why would he do that?
He would lose all of his investment if he did that, and as I understand it the rams are paying their bills as they fall due.
I believe that 90% of the posters on here do not understand anything about administration/insolvency.

    B) would appear to be the most arguable by virtue of imposing transfer windows.
But I'll wager that implication was never thought through at the time.
The whole thing stinks though. As a regulatory authority the EFL should be trying to provide guidance and interpretation ex-ante, not coming along ex-post and working backwards to find small print to fit their retrospectively determined desired outcome.
This is why they are not fit for purpose.

The way the rules are written, with just a blanket "you must comply with FRS 102", it basically feels like the EFL have decided to outsource that particular competence to the people that actually have expertise on it.  They know they don't have the manpower or knowledge to properly audit every clubs accounts, so they decided to just leave a requirement to comply and trust HMRC/auditors etc to do it properly.  Which honestly seems a fairly sensible way of doing things to me.
That's why it feels so weird and wrong that they're suddenly making very specific requests about how accounts are to be submitted, and they're passing judgments on things that they have no legal authority to pass judgements on.  To my knowledge, no legal body has ever bestowed on the EFL the power to determine whether accounts are compliant with FRS102 or not.

When you run a sports league and you have to release interchangeable fixtures because you mangled the interpretation and enforcement of your own rules, surely you have to consider whether you're the problem...
That said really wish Mel and Co had at some stage decided not to take the piss. De-escalating it just a few years back would surely have just avoided this.

This has been my argument all along, we wouldnt have done some of our business if the EFL hadnt signed off the Amortisation policy.
We wouldnt have signed Bielik, Jozwiak and I imagine Rooney wouldnt have been here.
It's like being granted planning permission for an extension and then being hit with a punishment because the planners realise your house is now bigger than theirs and everyone elses.
We need to wake up and quick, the EFL are literally doing anything and everything to destroy our football club. This is a battle of egos between Parry and Morris and our club and the fans are collateral damage.

    Still don’t get how:
    - EFL rules don’t state the method of amortisation to be used
    - we submit accounts using a legitimate accounting method which the EFL accept
    - we submit 2 more years accounts using the same method which the EFL accept
    - Keiran ‘finance expert in his own head’ Maguire tells the EFL that we’re doing something different to all the other teams
-EFL charge us over multiple issues and lose
    - EFL appeal a small part of the charges and win but now threaten to relegate us if they decide to appeal again.
Surely their appeal was only against the fact that we’d not been clear enough in telling the EFL accountants that we’d used a different accounting technique. The fact that the latest appeal has decided we should have been fined for the issue rather than given a good telling off doesn’t legitimately leave scope for a points deduction for last season - so relegation shouldn’t even be a consideration at this stage.
This is a vindictive statement meant to cause as much trouble as possible - at a time when all clubs are in dire straits due to COVID. Appeals from either side simply drag out this farcical process and cause more damage - the EFL need to remember they have a duty to protect all clubs and not continue to attack us just because their chief exec is best mates with a nasty little man in a Middlesbrough - particularly when they have history of letting clubs with far larger FFP breaches off the hook……

You know, the more I think about it, the more bizarre it seems that the EFL are making and very openly broadcasting the fact they're making a separate fixture list based on a points deduction that hasn't happened. They've just invented a potential punishment that's different to the punishment that has actually been handed out and are going to publish a set of fixtures based on this imagined punishment, even though there's no suggestion that it's likely that it will actually be given.
    What a weird organisation.
