  1. Halloween (2018)

Great performance by Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, who confronts her long-time foe Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Far far better than I expected and a properly scary/gruesome horror, with a decent plot and great script. Plenty of nods to the original film as well. Forget any of the previous sequels & just watch this one.

Best film I've seen this year by quite a margin.

    Highly recommended. 9/10

Football is a completely different world, 20k car would take up the bulk of an average persons yearly salary.

We’re talking about football clubs that generate millions. Last season £2.4bn was dished out between clubs, West Brom for example went down with £95m payment, this doesn’t include revenue the clubs also generated. The Sala fee is just £15m.

Find it pretty distasteful watching both clubs heading to court possibly wrangling over the fee whilst 2 families mourn their lost ones, one of which was not found.

Just think both clubs could and should have settled this privately, look after the families, possibly use some of the fee to setup a charity in their names, anything but this.

What if we end up selling Bogle for £17m this summer and he gets killed? Would you be happy if we wrote the money off?

Its not our fault but we’d be punished. One good player down & still in FFP struggles.

It’s all very well claiming the moral high ground but it shouldn’t be dependent on whether it can be easily afforded or not & in the real world, that’s what we all pay insurance for.

    Cardiff should have paid.

Nantes should have donated the fee to the families.

    Agents should get nothing.

That should be the FIFA ruling.

    Why punish Nantes?

  4. "I think we're alone now"

A post-apocalyptic film that finds Del (Peter Dinkage) keeping his home town swept and tidy after everyone else has suddenly died from an unspecified event. He seems contented going round buring all the dead people on his own - and then Elle Fanning turns up and they eventually become friends blah blah yawn.

    Boring and stupid. Don't bother.

Actually, i do enjoy teasing them with difficult questions and ideas that make their closed minds pop

DRLs, yes, not that exact placement of them where it's clearly been designed to appeal to the fog light bankers.

On VW group cars they're just a part of the headlight unit.

I think it was the DS3 that started that trend - and probably for the reason you said...to attract a certain type of buyer.

So what is your brothers excuse? In Italy trucks are banned from the outside lane and it sure speeds up the lighter traffic.

He claims that if he is in the position of the lorry being overtaken and it is taking a while, he eases off the gas to let the other one past. I don't believe him, in much the same way he doesn't believe me when I tell him I always use my indicators (I do).

Trucks on the limiter trying to overtake another in the outside lane of a dual carriageway. 6 miles to gain one truck length it took one yesterday, then you have  a"""holes in BMWs trying to queue jump by racing up the inside and cutting in!

    Should be banned-both of them.

Ah yes, a regular topic for me (a BMW driver) and my brother (a lorry driver) when we get together.

Having said that, in these situations it is ridiculous that you often get a massive queue in the "fast" lane and nothing in the other one, when what should happen is that both lanes should be used until the point of overtaking. In the same way as when one lane is coned off and you end up with much the same situation.

We no longer accept donations, haven't taken any since 2016 and now fully funded through advertisements.

I did find you on the list though and have disabled them on your account, I still do not approve of your browser plugins though.

Which is why I was offering to soften the blow somewhat.

You just can't help some people.....?

Those that donated for lifetime removal of ads at the time, could you drop me a PM with the email address you donated from and the date so I can check and manually disable. Thanks.

I'd be happy to donate again if there is a facility to do so.

Just add more detail to this, the second search was conducted by a group of professional shipwreck hunters. They are your external contractors and they were indeed not remotely present at the time of the initial search.

There would usually be a search in other similar circumstances - but it's unlikely it would happen quite as quickly. Once you've determined you're searching for wreckage and not survivors, the urgency drops significantly, so the search happens when the necessary contractors are next available.

That could have even been the case with this search, they may have just happened to have been available.

Plus the time it takes to narrow the search area down. Didn't the surface search cover 400 square miles? but by the time they started the underwater search, this had been reduced to 4. This would have taken time but also made the search by contractors much quicker.

Was actually going to watch this but have no idea whether I should or not now. Stringer reckons it's hilarious but not sure how to take that observation tbh ?‍♀️

    Hereditary

Wanted to watch this at the cinema but missed it. Finally got the Mrs to watch it the other night (she doesn’t like scary films). Wished I hadn’t bothered.

Why people are claiming this is the best horror of the year is anyone’s guess. Started off weird and quite atmospheric, then descended into stupidity and a truly awful ending. At no point was it even scary. The fact I’m a Toni Collette fan just made it worse.

    Big disappointment

It maybe didn't help that I knew about the most shocking scene before hand - having failed to avoid a spoiler, but that was in the good half of the film. After that it somehow changed direction and ended up like an old 80's B-Movie horror film.

It's OK chap - I didn't really do a very good job of expressing what I meant. Something about the more wealth you amass the more some people seem to ignore risk. But death comes to us all - it doesn't care how much money we have.

Anyway - I'll stick to the Jokes thread ?

Oh there's definitely something in that.

I would put it something like: If you are properly wealthy, then you can regain some of that childlike confidence and sense of adventure. When I was climbing trees & jumping out of haybarns on the farm as a kid, I wasn't worrying about not being able to pay the mortgage if I got injured and couldn't work.

Another take on both the Leicester and Cardiff tragedies is one that will probably also get me some grief, so I don't mean this with any disrespect to the deceased, but is there not a point an element of these deaths was so needless, yet driven by wealth and status and entitlement

Leicester owner flies helicopter from Leicester to London, when there is a regular train service that takes about an hour and if he wants privacy could have gone by car. But he's rich enough to own a helicopter so forget that. Granted any form of transport is not safe, but I suspect helicopter is considerably less safe than train or car.

And with Sala it's just bonkers that he tried to get from France to Cardiff by some kind of light aircraft?! What was so urgent that he couldn't just get the Ryanair? He's moving football club, not escaping wartime occupied France.

Just so sad that we all strive for as much money as possible like it solves every problem, but it can't buy your life ?

Nope. Can't construct a reply that wouldn't be construed as political, so here's a cat emoji ? and consider yourself put right!
