In terms of minutes on the pitch so far this season, WhoScored lists our top 10 as:

    1. Wildsmith 2160
    2. Cashin 2070
    3. Bird 2050
    4. Hourihane 1878
    5. Mendez-Laing 1618
    6. Collins 1601
    7. Sibley 1445
    8. Barkhuizen 1352
    9. Smith 1311
    10. Knight 1310

Fozzy comes next, McGoldrick is in 13th. Because both of these two are so far down the minutes table, I don't think you can argue they're our most vital. We have experienced centre back cover in Davies, Chester and Stearman. McGoldrick's role as a 10 dropping frequently into midfield could be covered by Sibley or through a rejigging of the set up - very often Didzy isn't in the team.

For me it is either Wildsmith or Cashin. Probably Joe Wildsmith, who has the joint highest number of cleansheets this season across Europe at 16, from 31 games. What an amazing record. He has been brilliant. But hasn't Eiran Cashin been immense, the highest rated WhoScored player in League One this season. What I love about him is he is so involved, all over the pitch. Not only does he bring the legs we need, but he's the first centre half I've seen since McFarland where you're not surprised when they crop up on one of the wings or some such. But who also lives to defend. Hard to split them in terms of their value to the team, but great to have two such brilliant performers who we can build a team around.

It is interesting to see that Max Bird comes next in terms of minutes played. Am I missing something about his influence in games? I don't think it would be problematic for the team if we lost him or Conor Hourihane for a period of games as I think Sibley, Knight or Smith would be fine (and potentially better) in the middle of midfield for us. But maybe I'm wrong?

I'd much rather lose Hourihane than Bird.

And, if we were to lose both at the same time, I think we would struggle in terms of midfield control. I don't think a midfield of Sibley and Knight would be too great.

    McGoldrick

I agree that he's up there but don't think he's more crucial than Wildsmith, Fozzy, and Cashin, for example.

I think with his age and record, we signed him knowing that he'll miss a good few games in the season, and that we all expect that. The others mentioned above I would be significantly more concerned about if they missed a game.

  3. We're in a great run of form at the moment. We're up to fourth, best defensive record in the league, and the goals are starting to flow.

But, as we know, all it takes is a bit of bad luck, an unexpected sale, or a serious injury, for momentum to slow and results to turn.

So, just for a bit of fun (and hopefully not a precursor to anything ?), who in your opinion is the one player that we simply cannot afford to lose? The one that might affect our results the most.

I'm going to go with Wildsmith. He's made some crucial saves that without doubt have saved us points, and I don't think the confidence that he gives the back four can be understated. A big factor in Fozzy and Cashin's form IMO.

Well, it’s an opportunity to show that a team can perform under pressure.

The two tie system should get the best two into the final.

Thereafter, it’s who performs at Wembley in front of a big crowd.

I’d love to think we might be there this year.

I think this is the best-equipped team we've had to do well in the play-offs.

Just be really hard to beat - which happens to be what we're good at - and you're in with a chance.

Warne said "I'm led to believe Bielik won't be coming back"

An interesting way to put it, for sure.

Warne does this cryptic stuff sometimes.

When he first came in, I remember there was an injury to McGoldrick (I think) and, when asked about it, Warne replied to the effect of 'Is he? I don't know if he is.'

Just bizarre wording that makes it look like he doesn't know what's going on.

Ipswich allocation is 1497 at oxford for 21st January.  Sold out, no more to come.

    That.... is a concern.

Everything I've seen says there can be around 4,000 fans. Maybe there wasn't enough demand from Ipswich?

What about Barnsley? That’s usually a good day out and we should get a bigger allocation than we will for Oxford.

Can't make the Barnsley game, unfortunately.

Oxford has an away allocation of about 4,000 though, doesn't it? So should still be relatively easy to get one there.

Tickets for Port Vale on sale tomorrow at 10 am for all members.

    2,533 left.

Another game for members with no previous buying history to get a ticket.

Yeah, just bought mine for my third one of the season.

Just need to get to Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday and up the tiers I go EIEIEIO.

  9. It's interesting that not one person has voted for mid-table mediocrity. As things currently stand, we're only 3 points ahead of 7th place Wycombe (albeit with a game in hand).

I guess it just goes to show what a good run of form can do for fans' optimism!

  10. Wildsmith - 7

    Rooney - 8

    Forsyth - 8 MOTM - a revelation at CB

    Davies - 6

Cashin - 7.5 - would have probably been MOTM if it wasn't for a multitude of poor passes

    Stearman - 6

    Sibley - 7

    Bird - 7

    Hourihane - 7

    Thompson - 6.5

Dobbin - 5 - the only player who I thought was somewhat poor today

    Roberts - 6

    Knight - 7

    Barkhuizen 8

    Mendez-Laing - 7

Collins - 7.5 - his best game for some time

'Warne's love child' has scored some very important goals this season and will score more important goals if we are to achieve what we want to achieve. He's won us points, sets the tone in most games for the intensity and winning the ball up the pitch.

He isn't a 20 odd goal a season man, if he was he'd be playing at the top end of the Championship. We are in League 1.

Such a weird place this forum, when someone questions someone who has gone unbeaten for 15 games not to mention his success at getting out this league with no budget time and time again.

To be fair, Collins has scored 7 in 20 in the league so far.

If you were to extrapolate that over 46 games, it doesn't put him far off 20 goals.

  12. Derby County are set to appoint Oxford United’s head of recruitment Mark Thomas as their new director of football, sources have told Football Insider.

The Rams are set to raid their League One rivals to bring in the highly-regarded transfer expert in a new recruitment role at Pride Park.
