FFP/P&S tries to link clubs' expenditure to their incomes. It could have been effective in stopping clubs getting into financial difficulty and gradually reduced costs if it wasn't for the incentive of promotion and the inbuilt advantage given to clubs related from the Premier League. Even without those issues, I personally don't like the idea because it reduces competition. If FFP worked, Derby, Forest and Wednesday would be untouchable by Wycombe, Rotherham and Brentford. Eventually, you could predict the final league table on the first day of the season.
But it doesn't even work in its primary goal because everyone wants to get promoted and that means competing with clubs able to spend £50m more per season. That money cannot come from owners - which is sustainable if the owners have the will and the means, so clubs have to find schemes to get around the rules.
FFP in the Championship was the worst idea ever in football...and I said that a long time before it bit Derby County.

I may be misunderstanding but i have always had the feeling if it wasnt for the restraints of FFP/P&s Mel would continue to fund and actively still be trying to secure promotion.
Its the shackles the EFL have implemented in an attempt to protect clubs that are actually causing damage, and potentially putting clubs at risk, not because owners dont have the funds, but because they wont let the owners spend it.
Do the EFL actually want clubs to go out of business? It actually seems that way with the rules they have in place. They are very poor custodians of the football league and really need to take a step back and decide what it is they are trying to do.
When it comes down to appealing over the way something is written on paper then for me it shows they do no have the best interests of the game in mind.

EFL source tacitly admits "get Mel" was a part of it......the only legitimate line is either"no comment, it's ongoing" or "that is a separate issue, the DC must judge the case in front of them"

Or possibly they figured we’d fail anyway because of the stadium thing, and never actually checked the case where we win the first charge and lose (part of) the second?

Would it be to much to ask of our Auditors that they issue a statement along the lines of "We stand by our decision to sign-off the accounts of DCFC as both accurate and compliant with FRS 102"
I mean their professionalism and competency has been seriously called into question here.

I’m no Mel apologist, I think the writing has been on the wall for a long time. Or atleast from summer through to Cocu’s departure.
But...I don’t know whether this article quite passes a good journalism test and I’m highly sceptical where they get their information from. You have to consider that someone wants that information out there. This isn’t ‘Derby is in a mess, and we’ve seen the figures to back this up’ it comes across a second hand info. It’s more speculative than investigative.
The club is in a dreadful state, and what’s actually been going on is slowly coming to light, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna lap up every article out there that agrees with that viewpoint without question

It wouldn't surprise me if we'd done some kind of gardening-leave type thing, so instead of paying him a lump sum in compensation, we're still paying some fraction of his wages until he gets another job.  So maybe if he doesn't get another job for the next 4 years, we might in theory end up paying him £8m, which fits with Morris quote's about it being a worst case scenario.
Likewise, the £20m HMRC bill is presumably deferred PAYE/NIC etc, so it will have to be paid, but they're not going to be demanding it all tomorrow. Many clubs, and many other businesses in general, will have used this scheme, and if HMRC start demanding massive payments upfront, they're just going to cause mass bankruptcies, so they will probably take a sensible approach.
The Dell loan also presumably has a payment schedule attached. They won't be demanding £15m tomorrow.
The entire article seems to be taking the worst case scenarios, and the total payable over many years, and assuming we owe it all tomorrow.

Pretty sure that the esteemed Percy said that Cocu and co left by mutual consent plus that Cocu being the gentleman he is had waived most of the compensation he was entitled to and took only a negligible sum ?

I've seen that phrase used a few times recently on here.
Tabloid scum like the Mail exist because people trot out that phrase.
If you were accused of a crime you didn't commit, would you want to be judged by someone who believed there is never smoke without fire?

Also interesting to note in the article that the BZI deal was reported to be worth £60mill
It’s also worth noting this new DM article is written by our new favourite north east reporter, so have to presume it’s all a little quiet on Teeside.

There hasn't been any indication of who is involved in the American consortium. We shouldn't be judging someone because of where they are from.

If Glick is involved it's a yes from me, spoke with him a fair bit when he was last here and was always really impressed with him and think he and the owners at the time got quite the short shrift from a lot of supporters for no reason
I wonder how many of those would take them back now?

Just thinking about slogans we can have to emphasis the American-ness of our beloved sports franchise.
    "Rooting tooting Rams Action!"
"The best all American Entertainment in the tri-county area!"
"Star Spangled Soccer like you've never seen it before!"
"Wayne Rooney - 4 more years!"
"Ask not what your club can do for you, but how much money can you spend on your club"
"The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself. And any kind of long throw in, corner or other set piece"

Sensible ownership is exactly what we need right now. No frills, no bragging, no arguing on Twitter, no claims of Champions League football and recruiting by typing in caps on Instagram comments.
I think this ties in with the previous theory that other parties were waiting on our fate, league wise, before making a move. Rightfully or wrongfully, Mel may have sided with offers which would've given him x amount of £ without the guarantee of us being a Championship side.
I'm glad we seem to finally be pushing Alonso aside, my opinion is he'd have been an absolute embarrassment and utter disaster. Let him go find another toy to lust over through a shop window. Unfortunately when he goes to the counter and only has buttons to pay for it, then he'll probably find himself in this same situation.
