It is still miles off. Smith bought in about 9 players that summer. We can’t bring in any. Smith bought players with some standing still. Van Der Laan was decent at Port Vale, Powell he knew from Portsmouth. We also had an experienced manager and one of the best young coaches in the game. That is miles off where we currently stand.

    I like the positivity.
But we are miles off when Jim Smith took over.
It’s a great chance for a reset, but we can’t reset without funds to do so and an embargo paralysing our club. The fans would and will step up I’m sure. But the club haven’t treated them brilliantly these last few months. Until Morris sorts this mess out we’re going nowhere. No matter what you say about 13 years in the champ, we’re still a big club and shouldn’t be in this position.

I don’t think he has any inside knowledge at all. Lots of random digging which, with little news coming out keeps us entertained. I’d take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

If you still love football at that age and don't mind dropping down the divisions, why give up?  You're a long time retired.
Good luck to him if he finds a club after being sat on the sidelines for a season.

Is McClaren still on the payroll? No one even knows what he does? The most pointless of appointments ever! Great if he was on the grass doing what he does best, but he isn’t. Not heard from him at all.

I don't get all the hate for Keogh tbh, he may not have been the best player we've ever had but he always gave it his all - and was a key part of some very good teams.  If for nothing else, I'll always be thankful for the Marriott assist...
As others have mentioned, an utterly avoidable end to his career here - but he was also badly let down by his 'mates'.  Its not something I've done personally, but he's not the first and won't be the last person to get into trouble after a night drinking.
Did he deserve to get sacked?  I'm torn on that.  Do I support him suing us?  I'm torn on that as well.  As far as I'm concerned thats somethign else that Mel did and something else that Mel will need to sort out.
Cheers for the memories Keogh, the less said about your exit the better.

Regardless, a very awkward speech. Poor body language, fiddling with a bottle, referring to Tom as ‘him’ all the time. Last bit was a muddle about having a problem seeing him rather than me. Just a shoddy presentation. Might sound a little OTT, but I’m even less confident in Rooney after that.

I like Lawrence. A surprising choice but I get the rationale behind it. We need to let go and forget about the Joiners Arms. Hopefully it inspires him on the pitch to perform well. He is capable. A football captain isn’t a major role like in rugby and cricket so hopefully it gives him a confidence boost.
More concerning is Rooney’s ‘speech’. I was kinda hoping behind closed doors he was a different character and more jovial. That was dry. No enthusiasm, pure dullness. He can barely string two words together and is surly. I know we’re in for a long season, but he’d send me to sleep if we’re in the trenches needing to pull together. Sort it out Wayne!

Especially with Spinazolla out because he brings out the best in Insigne too. Him injured hurts them twice
Chiellini and Bonucci looked tired too which will be a good thing providing England/Denmark don't feed them headers.
Oh man, this feels different. England stand a real chance. They've looked as good as anyone. They have depth. Can't wait for tomorrow. What. An. Opportunity!!

Croatia ruined the Spanish with balls in the box and down the channels. Plenty for England to threaten them with, it’s been one of our strengths. Down their right we’d fancy it. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

I think Spain have been more positive with possession than normal. Not just passing for passing sake. Not a fan of the fake 9 so I’ll give you that, although Olmo did play well there. They should have won this game with the chances they’ve had.
I think England could take both though.

His record is class as an England manager. He’s the 2nd best England manager in history and could eclipse Alf Ramsey. Absolutely made for international management. He understands tournament football. He’s bought a club ethos and spirit to the England team. They have never been more together. Well played Gareth.
Southgate you’re the one, you still turn me on, football’s coming home again!
