Stevenage was mentioned as an example of an inferior side on paper outplaying a better footballing team through effort and commitment. Steve Evans simply got the best out of his team.

But football isn’t played in paper is it; and Stevenage have been in the top six for all but one week of this season. They ARE a better team on the grass too!

  2. I can't post this in the transfer section as I have no formal link but an old colleague of mine, now a northern football writer for a national newspaper, told me last night that he believes at least two Championship clubs are monitoring Conor Hourihane for a possible January move. From what he said, I would suggest one of them is Huddersfield Town, though he didn't name them.

I don't understand on highlights why they have to put up nine minutes of content but it's just three minutes repeated over and over. Why do you need to see a goal, or even attempt, three or four time on highlights? Just cut it to three minutes, show the highlights.

Have we turned a corner when it’s the video editor getting a kicking instead of the manager…?!

A lot on here are talking expectation and not ambition.

Our ambition has to be playing in the top division of English football. Being sustainable and competitive in that division, with a sprinkling of academy players in the team.

Anyone who wants less than that, then frankly I don't know why you bother.

Well , if it’s just ambition uninhibited by expectation then why not to do ‘a Leicester City’ and win the Premier League?

I don’t expect that but my ambition is for Derby to win every game; which by definition would lead to it.

1k on an attendance is worth around 400k per annum in income.

That assumes the average gross ticket price is £20 per head (ie £16.66 once VAT is taken out). Given concessions and season ticket discounts I reckon it may well be quite a bit below that.

I did some work for Doncaster Rovers before the pandemic - the season they reached the L1 play-offs - and their average supporter contribution was £13.40 per head. That was net of taxes but did include f&b and programme sales revenues. Didn't include hospitality covers.

Obviously not a like for like comparison but it was an eye opener to me.

Can somebody please list the table in order of budgets for our division I can't find them anywhere

Not sure there is a list but I do play golf (occasionally, and very badly) with a League One chief executive and last time out he told me he knew of at least three clubs who are spending very heavily this season and Derby (and his club) are not one of them. He said that Oxford's budget is eye-watering.

He told me that his club tried to sign a player in the summer but were blown out of the water on wages by Oxford.

Even so its fair to suggest hes recruited for a 3/5 hasnt he?

Its fair to suggest that he's recruited so as to have that option, as well as playing a flatter back four (as we are now - largely - doing).

Makes sense to have options, no?

This is because we have had 2 fortunate wins -Fleetwood at home and Peterborough away-, and have not missed out on any we deserved to win. 10 points is about where we should be.

And same goes for the goals, we have created about 40 chances which equate to 10 or 11 goals. Last season, first 8 games we had created similar (38) but conceded fewer (31 to this year's 40, skewed somewhat by red cards).

Also 8 games is a decent sample so there is nothing to suggest we will play better and this is not our actual level (other than injuries perhaps?)

I must admit I admire the way your pseudo scientific approach attempts to mask a stream of utter bulls hit.

  9. Brighton seem to be the Mike Ashley’s of the transfer game; just looking for value, nothing else. Mind you, it’s only what Chelsea used to do - they must have made a pretty penny out of Patrick Bamford without ever playing him.
