Theo Robinson was rapid. A shame he had the worst first touch of any Derby footballer in the last 30 years.

Fikayo Tomori - not sure I've ever seen a player get caught so far out of position and get away with it so many times, because he could make up 10 yards on a striker without breaking a sweat.

Hey all, we've got a new podcast out now:

    https://traffic.megaphone.fm/COMG2419104398.mp3?updated=1697144905

A relatively comfortable 2-1 away win in the Papa John's EFL Trophy makes it seven games unbeaten for Derby County... so why does it feel like our season is still to get going? Chris is joined by Ollie Wright (@derbycountyblog) and debutant Phil Hile to assess the Blackpool win, Cheltenham draw, and Notts County victory, where the 'Sibley Enigma' is raised again - will he ever nail down a long term starting place under Paul Warne?
The panel also talk the return of Didzy, ex-Rams who got bad receptions, and the chaotic decision by Birmingham City to appoint Wayne Rooney as manager.

    Cheers!

    Chris and the SBW team

I'm all for electric vehicles, if more money was spent building the infrastructure necessary to be at the same convenience as a petrol/diesel car. Living on a terrace street for the example, where are you meant to charge the vehicles? Do we go and park in a designated charging area for 10-15 minutes then drive home?
Let's not forget petrol and diesel won't just disappear off the streets, even when the ban does come into force, they'll be a mix for another 5-10 years afterwards. We might even see Hydrogen cars come into the market, if the price of developing these cars went down

The reason why I enjoy this forum is the variety of opinions and debate about what we all enjoy and what we don't enjoy.
I don't like the style of football and how the manager thinks about the game. Playing it wide and pumping the ball into the box was great about 20-30 years ago and I would expect that level of football from a small reputation club in our division. Yes, we're unbeaten and our away form is spot, I have to give Warne praise for making us difficult to beat away from home when we couldn't buy an away win for years. Unbeaten runs however are not good enough to get you out of division, the standard of promoted teams is becoming much better. You have to be aiming for 90 points to get out of league. 75-80 won't cut it anymore unfortunately.
With all the resources at his disposal, the manager should be doing much better, particularly at home where we've looked poor without Didzy. Even though he has recruited heavily in the summer, I don't think he's playing to the squads strengths. So many technical footballers yet trying to turn them into running machines. He keeps reference how Man City and Liverpool are brilliant teams because they run. True, but they play with a style which blows people away. We run for the sake of running at times. We can be so much smarter on the ball yet this obsession to hit it wide and blast balls into the penalty area makes is so one dimensional and predictable.
For all my critical analysis, I am never making it personal. Some of the verbal abuse towards PW online is unacceptable and we must not forget there's a human soul underneath that cap. He is a genuine man and he says it how it is. Is he the manager I want at the club, definitely not. But I'll back him and the team at the ground no matter what. This forum is a chance to release some of my frustrations.

I'm sure this isn't universally the case but if you don't go to the games (thus far this season, this includes me) then perhaps you are less frustrated because you see the results and highlights - both of which are (almost) acceptable.
Whereas when I went to the games last season, I was as angry as many of you lot because the football just seemed so... brainless. For me, the standout managers who had good, solid, sensible games plans (formations, tactics, plays) were TBE, Schteve and Burley all of whom had reasonable success. WeeBilly also had a very clear game plan and success but I really, really don't like the man so I'll leave him out of that list (I'm sure most of you will agree). It pains me to watch 90+ mins of football which seems largely driven by hope/statistical analysis rather than proper patterns of play.
When PW talks, sometimes it feels like he knows what he wants - my fear is that even if that's where we ultimately get, it's probably not going to be what we want to watch.
Having said that, Our Saviour Lord DC isn't daft. He sees what we see (I suspect) but applying business logic to it, even if he doesn't like PW's methods, if we get the results then he'll persevere. DC doesn't strike me as the 'shoot from the hip' type. He's a sensible, steady guy who's used to long term projects so I'd say PW is here for a good while yet. However, I suspect what will make him change Manager is poor results and reduced attendances - hard data points basically.

Tom Lawrence was the classic footballer who had talent but lacked a football brain. Seemed to regularly not know when or where to pass the ball.
Kamil Jozwiak actually had football intelligence in abundance. But he couldn’t kick the ball.
A hybrid of the two would be a PL footballer.
Of the current side, I’d say for pretty certain that Collins lacks a bit of footballing intelligence. The way he approaches some attempts his technique is all off while he always plays like he is a stray elbow away from a red card. There is aggressiveness and there is stupidity.

Sibley has been victim to being overcoached, not having a consistent run in the side and not getting a chance to play to his strengths. He definitely has got some quality and let's not forget, he's 22 and played over 100 matches. He can still grow to be a top player for the club.
His first full season was the COVID era. The whole team struggled to adapted to playing with no home supporters. Second full season, Rooney kept playing his mate Ravel Morrison in Sibleys position and most of his appearances after the first 6 games were off the bench. I think he only played 4 or 5 full 90 minutes. Then last season Warne chucked him in at wing back with full knowledge it wasn't his best position. Played lots of games but rarely played further forward until the last stretch of games where he was excellent.
He has not had a fair opportunity to play in attacking midfield consistently since supporters returned after COVID. Simple as that. With some more confidence, I think he can offer so much more creativity. Warne keeps moaning about the lack of an alternative going forward. He's got Sibley right in front of his nose and flat out refuses to give him a chance up the field.
Feel bad for the lad, he deserves much better than this.

Exactly this. Entitlement has nothing to do with the reason I am critical of Paul Warne. I am a ST holder, I was at Cheltenham and I’ll be at Stevenage in a couple of weeks as well. I am invested in the club and want us to do well. I don’t boo or abuse Warne or the players;  never have, never will.
But I reserve the right to express my view on the style of football the team plays. I dislike it, it’s tedious, one dimensional and makes it really hard to enjoy watching my team. I don’t rate the manager and don’t think he will bring us success. I understand some fans would be happy to watch us grind out 1-0 wins all season if it got us promoted but i‘m not one of them. I want to be entertained and I think it’s possible to play good football at this level.
Ultimately you pay your money and takes your choice and so my position is that I’m entitled to air my view’s as long as I’m not being personally insulting or abusive about anyone. I do however agree that there are far too many  Warne in/out threads on the forum.

SSD got a reaction from Patrick Rams in The Sibley Enigma
