Ghost of Clough got a reaction from Bald Eagle's Barmy Army in Wayne Rooney
He only left only after Clowes took over and they had a meeting. For all we know, the discussion could have been along the lines of Rooney's wages taking up a massive proportion of the wage bill. So if he stays he'll have a small budget, or if he leaves the next manager will have more to spend (with a much greater chance of going back up).
Rooney did a really good job of galvanising the entire club during a unique set of events. However, it is 'easier' to motivate a group of players when you have something to fight for. If he took over a mid-table Championship side, I doubt he'd have much success.

In the right system Hourihane would flourish. Box-to-box with high defensive responsibility is not the right role for him.

A very good player at this level when fit. However, as with a number of our signings this summer, he has struggled a lot with injuries over the past 2 years. The type of player you'd want to pick up from the bargain bin in the hope they turn their luck with injuries around. Would add depth to a current weak spot in our team, with only Mendez-Laing, Barkhuizen and Sibley as real options on the wings. Hopefully it's a sign of sticking with 4 at the back (whether 442, 4231 or 433), rather than signing him to fill in at CF.

We haven't had the best budget in the league. Last season we were somewhere between 3rd and 6th, whilst this season, we'll be somewhere in the top 6 again, with Charlton potentially in top spot.
Clowes doesn't need to come our to clarify anything. He has already publocly stated that we have a decent budget, one which is good enough to get promoted.
We could have spent some money on transfer fees, but Warne has opted no to because he sees more value in putting that money towards wages.

I think Warne has mentioned the aim is to make a couple more signings to improve on the starting 11 we had at the weekend. I imagine that will be a RB/RWB and a AM/W.

Certainly I think Barkhuizen and NML were signed to play the wide roles in a 433/4231-type system, with us playing out from the back.  Collins is maybe a case of us having to settle for what we could find, which is why I separated him off the from the other 4 when I listed the players.
Honestly, I think your under egging what a good job Rooney and Rosenior did getting those players in.  It wasn't a last minute scramble when we came out of admin, we were being linked with the majority of them for weeks while still in admin, and they all signed very quickly when the admin was done.  They clearly had a vision of how the wanted us to play and went out and got the best players they could to play that way.  It absolutely wasn't anything along the lines of "sign a the best bunch of players we can and hope we can get a team out of them".

All the more impressive that he's actually right footed. However, he's one of only 2 players I can recall who is willing to take freekicks and corners with either foot.

We've made 10 signings so far this season, with only 1 of them being in the 9 most used (Nelson).
It's a case of signing a bunch of players to play a certain system, then use the original bunch of players who failed in that system last season instead.

Danny Ings was a record high compensation fee, which was eventually worth about £11m (£6.5m upfront, £1.5m in add-ons, with the rest coming from a 20% sell-on).
You tend to find the tribunal panel go half way between the fee offered, and the fee requested. More clubs making transfer offers (not end of contract offers) is a key factor.
Based on past cases, I'd be surprised if we get less than what Brighton have offered.
