Think he might have tried to join here under the same username a while back, assumed it was a Forest troll and never approved it.

I remember that twitter account - it was very good/insightful & do recall him getting an offer from a professional club to formalise his expertise. Good on him making a career for himself & then returning to his home club.

In terms of winning the ball:
Joint most interceptions last night of any player and joint most ball recoveries by Derby players (Joe Powell had one more).
So he seems to win it plenty.
I mean, call it 'false stats' if you want, but that just seems like a defence mechanism for not having to change your mind.
For me he passes the stats test and the eye test. He goes about his job and does it well most weeks. I think the bigger issue is, Warne wants to play two centrally and both the ones he uses are more suited to being part of a three. Given the limitations in mobility of both players (neither have rockets strapped to their boots) they both do a fine job. Fans have spoken a lot in the past about square pegs in round holes regarding strikers playing out wide etc. but to me our midfield is a big example of it, yet it never gets mentioned. It's just, our midfield gets run through every week, well of course it does, we don't don't have the personnel to play two in the middle.

I do think Hourihane is a bit of a liability without the ball. Sometimes he’s so slow I actually say wow. Given the naff opposition we come up against in this league, however, we often get away with letting unmarked players break into the box so it’s probably worth having him in for his in swinging corners
    Bird is top drawer.

Will let former professional centre back Shaun Barker know that next game. 👍  (Well being pedantic, he said 3 at the back.)
FWIW, I felt it was a three too, practically the same as we have been playing previously. NML just played the Ward role, obviously worse than Ward would have, so got a LOT of cover.

First 20 minutes excellent. Rest of the half decent.
    Second half nervy.
Thought the back 5 were solid.
    Thomson added zip and verve
    NML in his proper position
    Waggy strong and great finish
    Small steps

Max Bird is the last remaining player in our squad who can actually play football. He is calm under pressure and can pick a pass.
It’s not his fault he’s surrounded by less talented players.
He is one of those who will be a better player elsewhere. He was at his best learning from Rooney. He won’t get better in a hoofball side.
I’ll be gutted when he leaves but I guess it’s all part of our transition from a chrysalis to a slug.

Not got in the England team ahead of Rice or Phillips who cost a combined £160m?
1 goal and 5 assists for a player who spent most of the season as a DM... Do you know how mamy young CMs bettered Bird's assists last season? No L1 CM aged 23 or younger got more from open play last season. 2 players in L2 did, Watt (8) and Brieley (6), none in the Champiomship, and only Willock (6) got more in the PL.

    You genuinely think he sat there and told a bare faced lie in an interview? I just can’t see that. This is what he said;
"Paul has been given a budget, I think a good budget for League One that is good enough to get us out of the league. But it's football and nothing is guaranteed."
Where is the lie? Paul Warne has been set a budget, one that Clowes thinks is a good budget good enough for promotion (that’s his opinion), it doesn’t say “we have x amount”, it doesn’t say “we will reinvest all funds raised from player sales”, it doesn’t even specify “transfer budget”….just that a budget has been set. People need to recognise their own interpretation and expectations don’t always equate to the facts.

I’ll say the same thing I said last time Chris Martin, or as I like to think of him The Best Striker We Had In a Generation. Looking back it felt like we were having the same debates every time and whether it was the end of the season or when he was returning from loans or his main return under Cocu. The thing is, every time Chris Martin came back into the team, he worked hard scored goals and contributed. I have no doubt he’d come and prove a lot of people on here wrong again. It won’t happen because he’s not a Warne player and that’s fine, but the madness here is that those debates were like Norwich fans debating the merits of Pukki or Fulham fans with Mitrovic.
There is an interesting discussion to have on Martin’s time at Derby, he was the best striker we had and there were highs and lows, but I’ve longed got past the idea that a good sensible discussion will ever happen on here. There is fault on both sides of the debate, but there is a certain incredulous feeling that those that like him were having to defend our best striker in the first place!
No i don’t think he will be coming, but he deserves more respect than he gets on here.
